Kadri

That would be worse than Grubauer chasing money with an expansion team. At least Gru didn't know that they'd suck like that.

Kadri knows that Detroit is 3+ years away from being competitive and he'll be well past his prime when it happens. That'd be a 100% mercenary move.
Yeah and Yzerman doesn't strike me as the GM to sign a 32 yr old player to the kind of contracts people are talking about. Not at this stage of his rebuild anyway.

I would prefer to keep Kadri of course, but I'd rather him play out east if he leaves. For some reason, I really think he would do well with Torts in Philly.

Update : Letang just signed a 6 year $36.6M deal that has a $6.1M AAV this is very similar to what we need for Kadri but add another lower dollar year on the backend and the AAV can be dropped to the 5.5 +or - range , If either side balks at that AAV then eff it , but this is what I was saying about getting Naz done , the first 2 years of this deal are for $8M each then 1 year of $6.2M and 3 years of $4.8M no signing bonus money . Letang is 35 with 16 years in the league with $72.5M in estimated earnings not counting performance bonus money because that doesn't get added in on Capgeek , what are the odds he plays past the third year before retiring ?

OK, so now we have a market price on a 1 Year Show Me contract, with Klingberg getting 1 YR @ $7M.

Does MacSak pony up $7M for a 1 year Kadri deal?

This necessitates a trade of JTC, and even then, prepares the Avs poorly for the bonus' earned by Byram and likely Newhook. I presume this also means MacPunchyface as the 21st - and last - Nacho Eater as he can be 7D or 13W.

I can't imagine Kadri would be willing to do that. At 32 years old, if he has a down year, he would totally screw himself from getting a big payday + long-term deal from anyone after that.

Honestly, the longer this goes without any news, I tend to think he's already signed with Lou and the Isle. They won't announce it till after Lou has cleared cap space and resigned Dobson and Romanov. I am expecting at least one of Beauvillier, Nelson, Bailey, or Varly to be dealt to make the room they need. Perhaps they are a dark horse place for Pat Kane to be dealt after they have Chicago retain 50% and then another team retains 25%? Like say Beauvillier + Bailey + a 1st goes to Chicago, then Chicago trades a pick or prospect to Anaheim to take on 25% of Kane's contract?

Lee/Naz/Kane
Nelson/Barzal/Palmeri
Parise/JGP/Walhstrom
Martin/Cizikas/Clutter

Pelech/Pulock
Romanov/Dobson
Aho (Salo)/Mayfield

Sorokin
Varly

That's not a bad team right there.

exactly this... that would be the most idiotic move by him and his agent...

I would love to kick it to the curb on a 1 year big contract, give Newhook another chance to prove he can do it or find another 2C next year.
Or...make a hockey trade during the season if things aren't working. If we retain some cap space we could make a lot of things work.

Klingberg turns 30 in August. Kadri turns 32 in October.

He's not really in a position to sign a one year prove it deal. It's pretty clear to me that the market wasn't as strong as they hoped because of his age. So he's probably going to just get worse or the same offers next year.

Feels like his best option is to just take the best deal in the location he prefers this year.

I'm sure MacSak would find 7M for one season and call it a day while working on a longer-term solution throughout the season (trade for RFA C or more signable pending UFA like Bo Horvat.)

As for the bolded...that's probably going to be the plan regardless and to me it's a good one, your mileage may vary of course.

Different author but still funny.
