WTF are you guys talking about vigilante justice.

The Blues came out in game 1 looking to goon it up. Landy beat the crap out of one for this exact season.

They’ve been running around since the first period Monday. Schenn, Bertuzzo and Faulk have been gooning it since the start. Faulk caught a piece of karma when Kadri’s shoulder landed on his face.

Parayko punched Makar in the face before tossing him to the ice.

Schenn left his feet to deliver a check just before the 1st b-lose first goal last night.

Bortuzzo tried to take off Jost's head along the boards.

Karma: Faulk's face hit the back of Kadri's shoulder. Jost's elbow intersected Bortuzzo's face in Space/Time.

It hurt alot when Kadri was moved from Toronto, he has heart, skill, grit. I found closure last night. A selfish act again. Remember this, Kadri was suspended 2 times in Toronto and rejected a trade to Calgary because he didnt want to leave Toronto. What else does he need to learn his lesson? As of now, its a good trade to move him, he cant be trusted in the biggest games of the year....its too bad cuz i literally love his swagger, the different ways he can play the game and be effective. He loses his emotions, acts selfish and it hurts the his team-mates, coach , Gm etc.

Are you the writer for the Toronto Star? I swear I just read your thoughts on the front page there......

Kadri deserves it problem is they let Wilson and Kolesar get away with it.

Anyway it’s better for the Avalanche to let him sit the rest of the round.

Very true, why let the circus remain. Blues are going to take crappy shots as long as Kadri is playing so if he's even eligible to be out there he shouldn't be. This was what I thought the Caps should have done with Wilson as well, scratch him the next game and maybe you don't have to have fight night to start off the next game.

It would actually make perverse sense for Parros to throw the book at Kadri here after completely making an ass of himself over Wilson just a few weeks ago. Make an example out of an unrelated incident to make it look like he's tough on misconduct after everybody doubted that he had the balls to suspend a star player for playoff games.

That's exactly what he's going to do

The bolded is the key part of the problem.

He's basically had his emotions in check pretty much his entire tenure in Colorado. Hasn't done anything like this that I can recall.

But the Avs were starting to get dominated and he saw a scoring chance develop, so he wanted to do something about it. But he wanted to respond so bad his emotions hijacked his brain, and he made a bad decision to go for the hit in the first place, and then his emotions caused him to mis time the angle on the hit and pick the head instead of the body.

It's just emotions -----> bad decisions. And this is the antithesis of how Bednar wants his teams playing.

Even when you watch the replay, he leaves his man wide open to make a big hit. This is not how Bednar wants him defending. It's part of why Zadorov was always in Bednar's doghouse and Greer was never given much of a shot. They didn't adjust their game. Kadri actually did adjust his game very well for Bednar but he just lost his head on this play.

Instead of going for the big hit, the best play to make here was to stay in between his man and Faulk to be able to block any passes, and reach out with his stick to knock the puck away or deflect the shot out of the rink. He was in good position to do so, but he wanted to be a big difference maker so he went for the big hit, even though going for the hit made it possible for Faulk to quickly pass to Mikkola and be wide open for a very dangerous chance.

If Kadri put Schenn or Bortozzo out of the game on a stretcher I wouldn't have minded. But Faulk wasn't playing dirty.

I get it from Kadri’s POV but you’re spot on. Just bad judgment and a lack of discipline. JB’s system is very disciplined. If they intercept the pass in the NZ then it’s go, go, go. But the end to end game that the Blues want to play negates that. As you said though in this context, better to be in position to intercept the pass and knock it out.

Exactly. Guarantee Bednar has or will talk to Kadri about how he would have wanted him to use his stick to defend here not go for the big hit.

If he would have swiped with his stick at that puck and knocked it towards the boards, he would have been in a great position to take the puck and go the other way for an odd man rush, because all his momentum was going towards Binnington, while all the momentum from the Blues players were going towards Grubauer.

If he scores a big goal as a result, he could have been the hero that way, instead of trying to be the hero by going for the big hit, and forgetting about his defensive responsibilities in the process.

Yeah, that’s the thinking man’s POV and requires patience. Kadri’s drought brings out his innate tendency to act on his emotions which negates that. Amateur psychoanalysis. LOL. He’s a talented player but not the best fit on the team.

Would you protect him in the entry draft?

No he is not getting protected at this point. Seattle wouldn't pick him anyways, so its better to just protect someone like Donskoi

7F 3D (EJ to waive)
Mack,Rant,Landy,Bura,Jost,Nuke,Donky
Makar,Toews,Girard

Yeah I think you have to protect him. He's too good a player and even if there's reason to be upset with him, he's too good an asset to just give away for free.

He's not as bad as some are making him out to be right now because they're upset with him. He just had a bad goal slump this year and never really got out of it.

We know he can play well in the Avs system though. He scored at a 31 goal 47 point pace last season and then had 9 goals and 18 points in 15 playoff games. He's also shown great chemistry with his second line whether it's Burakovsky and Saad or Burakovsky and Donskoi.

Plus he'll be in a contract year next season as a pending UFA and this is usually when you get the most out of players. I don't see any reason not to bring him back unless they find another legit 2C right now. Which might be hard to find at Kadri's cap hit. Newhook's too unproven for a Cup contender to rely on before he shows he can take that role full time.

I’m seeing different comments about exposing Kadri in the expansion draft. He will likely get taken. There’s a decent chance he’d be a top 6 C. And he only costs 4.5. That’s a great deal for Seattle.

The problem is, it’s not good for the Avs. His reasonable salary makes him a tradeable asset. So leaving him unprotected for Seattle to take wastes that value as an asset even though it clears cap space.

But Kadri has 1 year left with a replacement possibly in the system already in Newhook.

Donskoi or Burakovsky have no replacements in the system.

If they take Graves that's cool too.

To risk a Cup contending season with Newhook as a 2C would be an incredible risk in a league that is risk averse.

Just to be clear, I’m not for or against on this at present. Would rather hear the arguments for and against and decide after careful consideration of all factors. I tend to think your POV likely mirrors Sakic’s thinking because he’s looking at him as an asset with floating value and he’s highly unlikely to sell low.

To me, Kadri’s lack of discipline isn’t about intelligence or lack thereof. It’s all about emotion and a lack of discipline. But that raises the question if he brings more to the team than he costs it over the longer term. Definitely not a perfect fit but maybe good enough for the time being.

As much as he's pissed me off this season, Kadri's not a player to expose.
He may be very replaceable, but not at the XD unless it is part of a trade.
By the end of the playoffs, we may have a better prediction of what Newhook can do. I don't know anything about the Xs and Os, but from a casual fan POV, Kadri doesn't seem to much that makes him light years ahead of Hooker other than annoying other teams.

I'm very anxious to see what Newhook does with the remaining season. He's seen so many different levels of speed,, competition and skills this season that it blows my mind when I think about it.

Think about the last, what, 5 months for this kid and where he's played and each adjustment.

If he even holds at this level for the rest of the playoffs, with the pressure and physicality dialed up to 11, that seems like a hell of an accomplishment for the kid.

What’s your point? Compher hasn’t been (and won’t be) penciled in that spot on a Cup contending team. The plan coming into the season was Burkie/Saad.

We're talking post expansion draft. Saad may not be there. And if you protect Kadri you probably lose Donskoi or Bura.
