Kadri

I can't imagine us winning 4 rounds without Kadri, seeing people casually saying that its addition by subtraction or that he should be suspended for the playoffs. Tyson Jost vs Draisaitl or Malkin or Kuzy/Backstrom or Cirelli lmao

Agreed. Kadri at his best or even at his normal is an improvement over the replacements. That's why it was important to get him going, and now he got himself suspended. I don't know what you do when he gets back.

The bolded is the key part of the problem.

He's basically had his emotions in check pretty much his entire tenure in Colorado. Hasn't done anything like this that I can recall.

But the Avs were starting to get dominated and he saw a scoring chance develop, so he wanted to do something about it. But he wanted to respond so bad his emotions hijacked his brain, and he made a bad decision to go for the hit in the first place, and then his emotions caused him to mis time the angle on the hit and pick the head instead of the body.

It's just emotions -----> bad decisions. And this is the antithesis of how Bednar wants his teams playing.

Even when you watch the replay, he leaves his man wide open to make a big hit. This is not how Bednar wants him defending. It's part of why Zadorov was always in Bednar's doghouse and Greer was never given much of a shot. They didn't adjust their game. Kadri actually did adjust his game very well for Bednar but he just lost his head on this play.

Instead of going for the big hit, the best play to make here was to stay in between his man and Faulk to be able to block any passes, and reach out with his stick to knock the puck away or deflect the shot out of the rink. He was in good position to do so, but he wanted to be a big difference maker so he went for the big hit, even though going for the hit made it possible for Faulk to quickly pass to Mikkola and be wide open for a very dangerous chance.

Watching that replay it's amazing that the Blues player who got the rebound missed a wide open net. Had he scored there, with Blues subsequently getting 5mins on the PP, that could have been a completely different ending to the game.

He is gone for this series. That´s for sure. They give him 5. If we gonna end this series earlier, he´s gone sit at least 1-2 games in Round 2.

Make no mistake, he deserves to sit for that. No problem with it.

The damage to Perros and his fellows is allready made! When they really throw the book at Kadri and suspend him, say, for the rest of the playoffs (yeah, i know, unlikely), but let Wilson sucker punch Buchnevich and wrestle Panarin, one of the league superstars, 2 weeks earlier und give him 5.000 Dollar fine, well, that looks brutal on them (it allready has, but man...)

Kadri could get the "Statement" they missed on Wilson.

Parros should lose his job for how he dealt with Wilson, it was embarrassing.

I can't tell if Kadri raised his elbow for protection (a huge impact/crash coming up) or really aiming for the head by purpose, he truly deserve some kind of punishment though. ;-) Sometimes it's instincts I guess but it's not an excuse. I really like how the league is working hard trying to prevent dangerous headshots (thus avoiding concussions). It will take time but of course it will change how players are acting on the ice. Sometimes it's really, really small margins though, from a dirty hit to a clean hit, fast speeds, everything happens in a tenth of a second.

Yes, Claude Lemieux, Adam Foote, Rob Blake and Peter Forsberg weren't much better in this specific area like somebody mentioned. Landeskog is also crossing the line from time to time (at least when playing the Wild). ;-)

Thinking out loud here: if Kadri gets 5, can he use Wilson’s fine in the appeal and use it as an argument as to why the suspension is too harsh?

I mean similar players with similar histories and reputations, and I could still be made to believe that the Wilson play was much more egregious.

Wilson is reminding me a bit about Mats Sundin's (best?) friend Tie Domi.

This situation is a bit bizarre. It was one of the more dirty cowardly moves I ever have seen but most people thought it was ok because it was Ulf. A guy almost dying on the ice but almost an entire hockey world applauding it.

Holy. It's easy to tell that there are a lot of new fans in this forum. That or people don't remember that Claude Lemieux, Adam Foote, Rob Blake, even Peter Forsberg used to be a part of this team. I'm not saying Kadri doesn't deserve a suspension but put the pitchforks away. All of those guys threw a lot more egregious hits than Kadri did and they are all still celebrated to this day. Naz made a mistake and missed his angle. He doesn't need to be jettisoned from this team or exposed in the XD for it. Everyone needs to calm down. My guess is he gets suspended for the remainder of the series and then comes back for the second round looking to redeem himself. We probably won't see the Kadri of last year's playoffs but he will be more towards that than he has been this year. Everyone take a breath and relax.

If Kadri was performing like Claude Lemieux no one would want to trade him. He isn't.

We celebrate those guys for being good hockey players who contributed to the success of the team. Kadri losing the puck and his man in game 1 for a goal against then a 5 minute match penalty are not very helpful.

That's seriously why Wilson gets around the nonsense. He can score so the Caps and fans tolerate it. Naz hasn't been doing *anything* so it's easy for people to say let's expose him or trade him right now

The suspension doesn’t bother me... the ineffective play does.

He made one stupid decision in a fast-paced game. It is what it is. It doesn’t change my opinion on him. I just want him to play better after his suspension.

I think you just made my point for me. And were you calling for him to be traded after the playoffs last year? No, you weren't. Everyone is overreacting. He's had a down year. Is he playing injured? Is he having trouble mentally dealing with the covid situation? You don't know and neither do I, but get off of your pedestal and realize that these guys are human beings and can make mistakes like the rest of us. He missed his shoulder to shoulder hit by 2 inches while traveling at a high speed. Yes suspend him because it was a bad hit but people need to calm down

But he didn't give a single hit in the entire playoffs? If Landy does this he gets the benefit of the doubt, but Kadri? Nope.

Earlier in the game he watched Donskoi getting manhandled by 2 players after the whistle and he didn't help him at all. He looked at him from 6 feet away and stayed there. Zero involvement, zero desire to help his teammate. It was so infuriating... we were a couple of people who mentioned it in the GDT when in happened.

He had no interest in any kind of physicality before that hit.

Then he does this out of the blue in the 3rd while his team has a 2 goal lead. Worse, he has done similar stuff before. Twice.

It wasn't a mistake, he didn't miss his shoulder. I said before that he possibly has mental issues and now I believe it.

So are you saying that he just doesn't want to play anymore this season? You said it wasn't a mistake and didn't miss the shoulder. So you think that he intentionally did it to get suspended? If that's your implication then I don't think there's much more of a conversation left to be had. His other two suspensions I would say were different circumstances as they were retaliatory and came from emotion. This wasn't an emotional response it was just a misjudgement of timing on a hit.

When Kadri plays well he doesn't get suspended. Draw your own conclusions.

It does seem like Kadri has checked out..especially after Bednar took him off the 1st PP unit. He has done literally nothing since then. No hitting, no agitation. Nothing which makes him so difficult to play against.

I wonder if Pygmies are standing next to their radios and/or refreshing twitter feeds while waiting for news about this too?

Maybe it's by design? And that's also why Compher (who went scoreless for 35 straight games) is his replacement?

I could be wrong, but I believe the suspension has to be 6 or more games before a player has the right to appeal.

I agree. It does look like he has checked out with the odd game of his normal self sprinkled in every once in a while. So for me if I had to guess I would say that he is mentally struggling due to all of the covid restrictions and it has worn on him. People react differently when their social interactions get changed. Maybe with the loosening of the restrictions he would have snapped out of it. On most nights his play has just been meh. He wasn't a detriment to the team that everyone is making him out to be. He will get suspended and serve his time, then come back much better than he has been. The Avs need him playing well to win the cup and my support for him and the rest of the team won't waiver. This is the team we have and we will win it all with them

I've tried a hundred different ways to say this and ultimately deleted every single one of them before posting. So for the 101st time...he goes nothing. First, my hope is that Faulk gets well soon. I don't want anyone (even a Matt Cooke or a Tom Wilson) get injured at anytime much less the playoffs.

Now, I only know Kadri from watching him as an Av. I'm aware of his past, but I try not to really follow teams who haven't done a damn thing in over 50 years. I mean, you celebrate a 100years but only the first 50 were worth a damn. Anyways...I'm not big on the big 25 covering center ice at the [insert corporate sponsor] arena either.

As for folks calling for his head, this hit isn't the reason I'd be doing it. It is a one-off in his two years with the Avs. This individual play is not indicative of his body of work as an Av and is in fact an outlier. One he probably deserves 5+ games for, but then anybody that throws that particular hit, should be looking at at 2-3 minimum for a first time incident in my book even during the playoffs. I don't think the there should be any difference in how the rule book is called or how suspensions work between the regular season and the playoffs. That's why no sane person will ever get the job. Neither the NHL nor the NHLPA want the problem fixed. First for the NHL, it would make Gary feel like he's admitting a mistake by changing things...even if that is what is required to make the game better/safer. He's not about to make a change that could show any hint that he's doing something that should have happened a long time ago while he's still got lawsuits going on from players over head injuries. As for the NHLPA, sure the rank and file players might say that's the kinda hit we need out of the game...but the NHLPA (as is right for any union) is going to go to bat for the player being issued supplemental damage even though it sends a signal that the players union is okay with this and is actually defending Kadri's hit. It's indefensible. I don't remember which article it was in, but Bednar even said from some angles you can kinda give him the benefit of the doubt on, but from other angles it's just a tough look. When you own coach says something like this, that's code for he's my player and I want to defend him, but I can't...this hit was inexcusable. At least, that's my take.

So what kind of player is Kadri now? I've tried to find "hit" stats but they don't appear on the NHL website. What I'm trying to do is find a way to determine how physical/mean a player might be. My immediate other thought was PIMs. Yeah PIMs will tell me who the big bad guys are on our team: well shit....Graves leads the way with 55 minutes. Somehow O'Brien sneaks in at #2 with 40 minutes in the box. Kadri apears number 4th on the list behind MacK's 37 minutes worth of coffee breaks at 34 of his own. Which tied him with Rants and Landy.

Welp, I guess PIMs might be a substitute for tough/mean if your name is O'Brien, otherwise it almost appears to be indicative of TOI.

So now I'm stuck with my eye test and I might need a new prescription. I question Kadri's motor. I don't think he has one. I have yet to see him exert any will on a game, heck I have had a very hard time this season even seeing Kadri on the ice. That's a good thing for a defensemen, I'm not so sure about it being a good thing for your 2nd line center though.

One last thing I've looked at is probably one of the worst stats being kept. Yep...the dreaded +/-. These stats fluctuate a lot but Kadri really does stand out by how far back of the pack he is. He has a team worst -7. Of our centers, MacKinnon lead, of course, with +22. The others in order: Jost (+14), Landeskog, wink-wink, (+14), Compher (+10) and Belly (+6). I mean Newhook (small sample size) ended with +5. It's a terrible stat, but what makes one player (who is part of the top six) fall so far behind others.

Anyways, as for the hit itself. I would not call Kadri a mean player, much less a tough player or a player that actually uses physicality as a tool. I honestly don't think he even knows what was going through his head on that play. Considering what he was touted as, I expected a tiger. He's really just your ordinary, maybe slightly below average 2C. His 32 points weren't much to write home about either. His loss for the rest of this series isn't a huge deal with home ice and a two game lead. It should give Bednar some time to play with all his toys and get his shit sorted out for the 2nd round. Assuming he gets 4+ games I have no issue (I would if it were less, because I actually want that kind of hit out). Me having no issue with that does not mean I am cool with the DoPS. A blind squirrel and all that.

I agree with alot of this post, minus the physical comment lol.

From my side, I have watched Kadri his whole career. I enjoyed his playstyle very much in Toronto and he had a decent year last year. Even last year though, he was not the player he was in Toronto. He was dogged, physical and very reliable defensively most games. We have yet to see that version consistently in Colorado.

This year he's looked disengaged and uninterested which is very unfortunate. Maybe he's playing through some physical or mental problems, I don't know, but he hasn't lived up to the expectations of this year. I will continue to root for him and hope it turns around regardless of the hit.

Physicality plays a big role in how he plays and emotions dictate his play for good or bad and will continue to be that way. When he's hitting he's usually playing hard and is into the game mentally more than when he coasts. I hope that when he does come back he doesn't feel like he can't engage, just that he has to think before going for the big hit.

IMO he deserves a lengthy suspension and I hope he takes that time to help reinvent how to apply himself physically while not going overboard. Probably unlikely, but that is my hope.
