Kadri

Sakic was very vocal about his defense, and I think everyone felt 1-3 games was sufficient. That being said he didn't play all that well this season. I think Stastny would be a good signing so the team is stronger down the middle.

“There were other instances throughout the playoffs that were very questionable, where the hits were worse than mine, but weren’t even suspendable. It did feel like I was made to be a poster boy, to send a message for the accountability aspect, which I didn’t appreciate much,”

"Sometimes, it feels like it’s more the offender and not the offense. I get it, I understand it’s a tough job. But for me to get the equivalent of a 20-game suspension in the regular season, for trying to make a responsible defensive play…?”

If you read this article and didn't see the hit on Justin Faulk, you'd think Kadri was a martyr.

He can complain all he wants about the DoPS (yes, they suck), but his frustration should be directed at himself. He threw a reckless headshot that injured someone, and has a history of doing idiotic/violent things in the post-season.

It would've been nice to see some accountability and remorse from a guy who's been suspended 16 playoff games the last four years, but the whole article reads pretty narcissistic.

After how bad Kadri was the second half of this season, I'm not sure how good he is anymore, but it's definitely not good enough to off-set the baggage he comes with. I seriously hope Sakic and company take a long hard look at making a change this off-season.

I have zero sympathy for Kadri but he is right in this instance. DoPS often takes the offender and not the offense into account. If it was Valeri Nichushkin making that hit instead of Kadri, does he get 8 games?

That is what's wrong with DoPS. They don't suspend based on the action alone. They take injury into consideration even though they deny it, and they take who the player is into consideration even though they deny it. It's embarrassing to see what a clown show George Parros and his team have turned into. It's a guessing game at this point, just throw darts at a board with numbers on it and that's the suspension number.

Also, unrelated but props to Dater for the article. I wonder if someone wrote that for him because it's actually coherent. I've also got to wonder how the **** the guy that asks MacKinnon the question he did continually gets these article scoops ahead of everyone lol.

Great piece from Dater. Glad he kept this one unlocked.

Really pleased to hear how motivated Kadri is for next season and I absolutely agree with him about his thoughts on the suspension.

The kind of support shown by Sakic and Bednar is big. That’s something that is valuable in building a quality organization and spreading the word around the league that they fight for their players.

I was even a Naz fan prior to him coming to Colorado and I hope he has a redemption story next season.

Kadri already said he's a poster boy for the league's will. Next semi-reckless hit he gives out will be like half of the season if the equivalent of eight playoff games equals twenty or so regular season games. You want a brain-dead player who wasn't very good at all this season and is capable of another headshot to be given a redemptions story? If that's the case Avs will lose in a fairly short postseason once again.

What’s the alternative?

Interesting to see what happens.
1) Makes a massive extension (a top-4 scorer in NHL is 10M+ per season, right?)
2) Rides out contract, signs elsewhere (like Saad)
3) Rides out contract, re-signs (like Landeskog)
4) Gets traded

I can argue for and against each one of those. If a trade is done, it should be done now, when the value is high.

I really enjoy watching Kadri and he is having fantastic season but still I dont think he is the best option for that second line center next year. He will probably cost way too much and I have a very bad feeling about his next season. If we could somehow have room for him as a third C that would be great but that wont happen.

1. Not happening
2. The most likely option
3. Doubt it. The Avs don't have a lot of cap space and can't spend most of it on a 32 year old 2nd liner
4. Zero chance

If Newhook is not ready for 2nd line C, they'll have no choice but to resign Kadri. Even if they let him go, they'll have to shop for a new 2nd line center. No point in doing that, just resign Kadri. At 32 years old he's not gonna ask for 10 mill or 8 mill a year. Can probably resign him for 6 or so

Depends entirely on the contract demands. If Kadri wants a long-term deal with a high cap hit, stay far away.

Am I wrong to not really be that impressed? Weak schedule, Kadri has had good opportunity, the whole team is more or less humming. Its November lets see this in May against top teams.

I mean regardless of the opponents Kadri is on a incredibly impressive run of form. But I mean it’s clearly not sustainable.

He's gonna be 32, they don't usually give out 7 or 8 year contracts to 32 year olds, but I'm thinking he might want like 3 or 4 year deal. If he keeps scoring at this pace, he would want to cash in on what would probably be his last big contact

He's stepping up when the team needs him the most, with MacKinnon out and a few key players simply not playing well.

Of course he did this last year too and then when the team as a whole finally got on a roll after a pedestrian start, he went in the dumper.

And if he wasn't contributing in the manner he has with MacKinnon out you'd be calling him a third line center and demanding Sakic trade him. Some Avs fans won't ever be satisfied with anything he does.
