Kadri

Am I wrong to not really be that impressed? Weak schedule, Kadri has had good opportunity, the whole team is more or less humming. Its November lets see this in May against top teams.
He's already accumulated about half the points most of the board expected him to get for the whole so yhea you should be impressed. But we don't have to be naive on top of impressed however. They are not mutually exclusive.

4th in the NHL in points almost two months into the season, while playing 2-4 fewer games is very impressive. No ifs ands or buts about it.

Nobody on the team is really that close to him either. He's got 8 more points than Landy and 10 more points than Mikko and Burky. He's not just a product of the team right now.

It's unlikely Kadri will keep up this pace and score over PPG the entire season, specially when MacKinnon returns, which means it's also unlikely they gonna have to pay Kadri 8 mill. I see him finishing maybe right at PPG or slightly below and probably get a contract somewhere in 6 mill neighborhood which will still be a raise for him

I'd extend him to a 6x3...anything more would be a mistake. He's had a phenomenal year, but I also watched him disappear last season.

I don't care about his suspension history, either. It's way overblown.

I’m not worried about his suspension history. He’s a pretty low IQ player and once he loses a step he’s going to fall off pretty quick I think. That’s my biggest hesitation with bringing Kadri back.

Yah I expect him to be a 40 point player in a couple years. He would be a decent 3C for us...but I don't want to break the bank for him.

It doesn't look like Newhook is gonna be ready to be a full time 2nd line C and have big impact yet. He's probably still couple of years away for that. Unless the Avs win the cup this year, they have to resign Kadri or shop for a new 2 C and give up more assets. Not sure if there are any UFA 2 C available next year.

This team can't continue worrying about MacKinnon new contact and keep losing depth. They already lost Saad and Donskoi, and if they don't resign Kadri, they will have less depth and will never win the cup that way. If they win this year (which is a big if) that might change things, but if they don't, they have to add players not lose them. Worry about MacK contract when time comes

Kadri will want 5 years and someone will give it to him.

The guy is forth in scoring in the league but hasn't done enough to warrant an extension lol. I understand term and Newhook being able to take on the 2c role being some factors that we need to look at. Newhook might be able to develop in a year or might not. We are in our window right now so I would rather have too many good centers than not enough. I dont mind paying him more if the term is decent

Yep. At the end of the day, his agent will try to maximize his value, and hitting the open market is the best way to do that.

Maybe he wants a cup and figures this team will provide one of the biggest opportunities to achieve it. From the Avs point of view a 3 year deal will be a good idea. It leaves the option to trade him in a couple of years instead of Kadri walking this summer. Kadri nixed a trade to Calgary, so he may not be interested to just sign anywhere… I guess the New York teams might come up with better offers than the Avs are willing to do.

Gets thrown out of as many face offs as he does playoff games. So yeah.

Really good player helping carry the team right now. Can't see him not pricing himself out of Denver after a clean playoff run and some points. If he does price himself to coming back to Denver that probably means something went very wrong and that's bad for the team. Before I thought there might be a chance he resigns but mad lad is gonna get paid.

Making the right play, every play, 2 months into the season is low IQ I guess.

Not sure what step you're worried he'd lose. He doesn't even have a step to lose. He's always been a slow skater with a weak shot. How slow/weak you think a guy can get?

Because this stretch of play is exactly how Kadri has played his entire career and is definitely sustainable.

With Kadri, I think age only does good.

Let's face it, he has always had the tools, but the decision making has been often times minor league level.

I'm just hoping that he has now reached a maturity that will be consistent. This early season surely has shown just that.

He might be right now reaching his true potential peak where he has matured enough mentally, while still not slowed down physically.

I’m sure Naz will go some place like Dallas and be a thorn in our playoff side for the next 5 years. That’s usually how these things turn out for us.

I can't like your post. You're right, but I don't like it.

I don’t really GAF what he’s doing 15 games into the season. What matters is his body of work.
And the contract you pay him is for what he’s going to be, not what he is now or what he was in the past.

We are a contender so unless newhook demonstrates that he can definitely take the 2c spot from kadru or we sign a player who is an upgrade at 2c, we cannot afford to let him go. I don't get the point you are trying to make. Every NHL contract is speculative. You pay him based on what you think he is going to be. Most GMs base that on what he did before and what you think he will do going forward.

There's likely zero chance that Kadri can continue this pace on a long term basis. He won't be worth the contract he signs. I hope he doesn't sign it with us, unless it's 5.5m or less for a few years.
