Aren't these all written by ghost writers?
I'm sure there's some part of that that is true, it's probably heavily proofread and what not. But there have been a few of these over the last years and if anything this one seems a little "less fancy" than the others so I'm kind of inclined to believe most of that is his words.

I was just chatting with my Dad, and I want to say this.
I'm from Toronto, so I still keep up with a lot of Toronto media, and from the moment after his second playoff suspension the narrative there was that the Leafs had to trade him. They had no choice. He had lost his cool twice in a row and got himself suspended, and then the Leafs lost in the first round.

To me, this narrative has always been complete bullshit. If one play getting suspended is the cause of your team losing, I'm sorry, but your team just isn't very good.

Kadri is a passionate guy, but the same thing that got him suspended is the reason he's such a great player. And the thing that bothers me about the whole thing is the Leafs knew him better than anyone. They knew that today's version of Kadri was in there waiting. If they had just had patience with him, imagine the center depth the Leafs would have had at this point. Leafs fans are already talking about moving Tavares to wing - Kadri could have been their 2C the rest of his career. A hometown kid and fan favourite. Instead he was essentially run out of town.

Well, to all the Toronto fans and media who acting (wrongly) like he must be traded, they can kiss Kadri's Stanley Cup winning ass. What a player. I assume he'll play somewhere else next season, but I'll always love him.

Will the Av’s be able to keep Kadri? I was looking at capfriendly and the Av’s have a ton of UFA’s with Kadri probably top of the list of important players. I know it’s not popular in other forums but I love the guy. He plays with guts and emotion. Plus he gives a great postgame interview. 😂

If he can settle for a 3 years contract, he can stay with the Avs for sure, and I bet that’s what he will do

One of the best individual story lines in a long time in the NHL.

1. Kicked out of the playoffs again...
2. A lot of the top dawgs get injured towards the beginning of the year and the team leans on Kadri. He responds by being a league leader in points for a good chunk of the season finishing 19th. 16 points above PPG and on pace for over 100 in a full season. Best season of his career.
3. Writes the Athletic article and basically says "kiss my a%$" to the haters
4. Starts the playoffs well but not at peak form. Then the Binnington hit and all the same playoff stories resurface.
5. Gets hate and deals with some awful fans. Comes back and scores a hatty.
6. Get injured right as it looks like this is the year we (and he) are finally making it into the finals. Supposed to be out for weeks and gets slapped with the day-to-day on a broken thumb with surgery. Shouldn't touch the playoffs again this year but has too much heart.
7. Comes back as the Avs are hitting their toughest test in the playoffs so far. A critical game for the series and he returns with an epic game winning goal.
8. Literally says "kiss my a%$" and hoists a cup.

Happy for the dude.

Unfortunately #9 is probably that he makes a boatload of money somewhere not in Denver but he has earned it and has left his mark on the team.

After an 87 point season his agent is probably looking for more than 3 plus a nice raise. I don’t know if another team would be willing to offer that but it’s a good possibility. He definitely raised his play and stature this year. He’s a great fit with the Av’s and seems very happy there.

Been following him since juniors, Kadri is all heart player who is blessed with some amazing skills. He was not really give the fair opportunity in my mind. Agree with your point 100%. Colorado will not be the same without him and will be missed for sure next season.

I have been a leader in the pro-Kadri camp since Day 1. Before Manson; Before Helm; Before Cogs it was Kadri ( and Calvert) who gave this team grit, which it desperately needed. That said, I think he is gone and I cannot blame him. Someone is going to pay him a ton of money - I bet we are talking $7M x 6 years after his gutsy and suspension-less Stanley Cup run. As much as I love Kadri, I am not paying him $7M when he is 37.

So the ball is really in Kadri's court ( puck in zone?) He's made close to $40M in his career. The Avs could likely go for $5M x 3 years, then maybe $1M to $2M per for the following 3 years. That's another $20M for his career, plus maybe an endorsement or two. But if an Arizona or a Buffalo ( only an hour from home) offer him $42M for the same period, who are we to blame him?

My hope is that Kadri does have a sense of hockey history and does not have a need for a garage full of Ferraris. There is a possibility that Sakic can keep the band together and keep the Avs cup competitive long enough to get Kadri's name on that cup 3 more times.

Everyone - including Mikko to some to come extent - has taken a pay cut for the team. At this point, Makar is likely underpaid by $3M with all the trophies on his mantle. Mac already took a team friendly number once, and might do it again. Landy could have gone elsewhere for more ( like Seattle). Players like Nuke, Lehky, Manson and most importantly Kadri are going to have to accept less here, or enjoy the wealth made in a 5000 seat arena in the middle of the desert.

Without this getting too long, I want to comment that a good deal of the complection has changed since Joe's magic at the TDL. If this team can ice a 4th line of LOC/Helm / Cogs next year - for a total of $3M - there is some hope. With Newhook and Meyers on ELC, than means that it would not be impossible to see - for 1 year - a 3rd line for $3M.

Painful moves that need to happen in order for this team to 'stay together' - and even that is likely for only a year.

EJ needs to ride off into the sunset on LTIR. ($6M) = Nuke slot
Sakic needs to let Burky take his skills elsewhere as a UFA ($5M) = Mac 2024 raise
JTC is imply not a fit for the lineup card, nor the bank account. Sakic needs to trade him.( $3.5M) = Lehky if he takes less than he would get elsewhere

This leaves the $2.5M slot Nuke vacated. Is that enough to entice both Kadri and Manson? Highly unlikely. And that does not account for Newhook, Byram and Meyers the following year.

A possible minor solution would be for Sakic to go all Adrian Dater, say F*&k it! and go Husso / Frankie or even Frankie / Annunen. This saves $3M over a mediocre Kuemper.

Sadly, I don't see any way Sakic / Bednar push EJ and JTC out not have the brass balls to try to win a cup with a pair of average goaltenders on back-up salaries. So this has been a really long way of saying that I am sad Kadri will likely go elsewhere.

I was thinking Kadri is likely gone but then after looking at Cap Friendly, I realized there are not too many good landing spots for him unless he goes to a bottom feeder for big bucks like Detroit, Bufalo etc. If he wants to go to a team that can compete for a cup there are not too many options with enough cap space to offer him a substantial increase. So re-signing is possible depending upon what he wants out of his next deal, money or a chance at winning.

I think winning the cup this year could potentially push Kadri even more towards getting the biggest contract he can.

There's a danger to himself, that if he signs on another team for very large $$$, he might underperform with a less talented supporting cast/injury/bad luck and be looked upon as overpaid and less desirable. They won't have the patience we had with him. And since he runs on karma, he needs his fans to love him.

He will take a haircut to stay here, is what happens.

He's probably the UFA who is the biggest guarantee to leave.

This is his chance to get the biggest contract of his life and be a 1C somewhere else, coming off the back of a tremendous season and Stanley Cup victory.

Love Naz, hope he makes somebody back up the Brinks truck for him.
