Where would you prefer Slaf spend his 23-24 season?

I guess it’s true the kid is powerful and has decent top speed, but he’s also extremely heavy.

Calling him a great skater is a huge stretch I think, he’s not agile, he needs a lot of time to get going and in the NHL the first couple steps are what matters most, you will never have great explosiveness and agility playing at 225-240.

And no matter how fit he gets the kid is a tank, he will never be agile I’m pretty sure of that.
The fact he has decent skating and size and has not been trying to use his body at all to create time and space when he has the puck is maddening. He plays like if he has Newhook’s body. In fact, not only does he not create time and space with his body/speed, he often doesn’t even use the time and space gifted to him in the OZ?

Slaf has various elements on paper that could make him a good player if ever he can bring everything together.

One of the problems that will absolutely need be solved is his very substandard number of shots on net. Whether he’s a pass first player or a pass almost always, his usual 1 shot on net (sometimes 0) is embarrassing. He’s on the road to nowhere in the NHL if this isn’t massively bumped up.

Totally agree.

Only the idiots. No one that calls a 19 year old a bust after 51 games has ANY credibility. Whether he's a Leaf or a Habs player. It's plain dumb.

And please don't tell us you know more than MSL, who clearly disagrees with your opinion. I'd suggest watch him play a lot closer. He shows a very good IQ. Unlike Scherbak. I hope you love dining on crow...
Sure he’s still young, just getting my feet wet, what fun is there calling him a bust when he’s 25 back in Liiga. I’m a fan of prospects and I like making predictions.

Don’t get so emotional about it buddy. There’s plenty of people who are overly optimistic and saying he’s gonna be the next rantanen to cheer you up ;)

And the MSL thing, he could telling his wife the kid is a complete bust, he won’t say it publicly for obvious reasons, anything he says should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.

to be clear when i'm talking about speed with him, i'm talking about decision making

and skating fast is not very impressive if you're skating fast after the puck you just lost, see: fastest skater from last year Ryan Poehling

Where you see a project, I see a player with unlimited physical capabilities who is already abnormally big, fast and powerful. Where you see a player that is lost, i see a player that is rapidly evolving his understanding of the game and already has good two way abilities. Where you see a bust, i see a big man with a soft pair of mitts who has increasingly more offensive chances. Where you see a player who will stagnate and amount to nothing, i see a player who is just entering his window of maximum growth and who should evolve in an exponential, parabolic manner.

I see you've went to the Bobrov School of Cheesy Lathering

Sometimes things are obvious.

Everybody want to looks like a genius and call a 19 years old with this skillset a bust before the fact.

It might just yield the very opposite effect actually

Now that's better

Most of the people you interacted with in this thread have not called him a bust.

Well, okay, I called him Wazebustky in the PGT, but that was just trying to make fun of MSL's analogy.

You keep writing things that sound great in theory but nothing on the ice backs up any claims you make.

Easy to say things in hindsight, much less when the present portrait is grim.

Its a fact that young players will improve the most in their age 18-23, an not in a linear, calculated fashion but at an exponential, parabolic rate.

Slafkovsky is exactly in the beginning of this.

Whatever perception we have about his current on-ice plays, i would simply rather bet on the massive skillset and the growth.

It would be an absolute outlier if Slafkovsky were to stagnate, bust or even cap his career as a 40-50 points player. (To me, that would be a bust.) Not saying its impossible, just that it would be an anomaly.

He could go 8-10 points in next 30 games and then bang ppg for the last 40. Such is the phenomenom sometimes with young talented players. I am not predicting anything, just stating how it can be with young talent. So yeah, it's not about his current play but at how fast and how high he can potentially improve that i am betting on.

he skates fast, we have the numbers, how does that not convince you!
Its not even about his skating

The absolute outlier was a player like this going first overall. It would not shock me to see more outliers follow because of this.

Blind faith? Nothing more than me liking the player? He fooled the entire hockey world, has no skill and was drafted 1st overall by mistake right?

What do i think he will end up?
It does look like he fooled the hockey world. He had Bobrov foaming at the mouth because of tournaments.
