Firesale, anyone with a contract expiring this year or next must go unless they’re being extended. Start next year with the team we want to be in the mix with so there’s no looming TDL hanging over anyone and hopefully we are buyers next year.

I am a big fan of Kapanen and Beck. But for us to expect them to immediately replace Evans minutes is unrealistic. If we lose Evans we will need to find a veteran replacement. I still believe Evans will be retained. He is too important to this team going forward.

Another thing I find puzzling is why people want to get rid of players we have drafted and developed? Shouldn’t we proud and excited to pay Evans for developing into an elite PKer? Instead we hope to replace with Beck / Kapanen who one day “might” develop into what Evans currently brings.
I liked Evans as well and I am not opposed to his extension. If we can sign him around 3-3,5M, I would be OK with it. Vegas has Roy at 3M and Howden at 2,5M.
The problem is that we need to be very smart with investing our resources. Every team has limited amount of roster spots and salary cap and we need to properly allocate both try to find incremental edge on every single position. None of our 2nd line player is proving to be a long-term or short-term solution. We should address this need as a priority and if we can get some solid asset fot Evans and use it for Top6 or RHD, I am not opposed to it. Beck nor Kapanen would not immediately replace Evans, but they can grow to that in couple years. Before that, we will not be contenders anyway.

There is no dignity in being a middling team that plays boring hockey and feeds young players to real teams. Is that how low the habs have become in the eyes of the fans? All you want is to barely make the playoffs at best for a decade? What a shameful franchise that was under the incompetent hand of a terrible GM but a really nice guy 😆
Perhaps it's all relative. We were in a much , much worse condition when Gainey took over from Houle and there is no question he brought life back to the team.

Gainey was a middling GM, but also relevant was that Molson Inc. Would not spend money at that time since the Habs were losing money. Gillette took over and he spent more.

Habs have needed a rebuild for a long, long time.

Spending to the cap........and dealing with the weak dollar is going to be tough moving forward.
Glad the cap is moving up, but the poor Cdn franchises having to deal with that, and the players getting taxed to the nines, and the stability of the Cdn franchises is going to be under some scrutiny, and tough times ahead.
The revenue created by the Cdn franchises is going to have to be creative, or ask Mr Bettman for some kind of a level playing field??

Affects the Jets and Sens way more than the Habs or Leafs. Habs and Leafs are top 5 NHL generators even after you convert CAD to USD.

Yeah I've heard all the excuses as to why Gainey couldn't do anything for season after season. We were in a bad place when he took over and after he was done we were back in the toilet with little to show for it. Gainey was the GM who would keep the habs terrible forever if he could.

I really don't care about any Dvorak, Armia, Savard trades. Not when we already have 2-1st's, 2-2nd's, 3-3rd's, 2-4th's. This draft is not that deep after 20+ and adding more picks won't bring in grade A hits (which we would like to add). Maybe we get picks in future drafts? Hopefully so.

What I am curious about is if teams offers us a grade A prospect vs a late 1st rounder. I think Evans and Anderson are the two that teams want the most. Guys that contenders want to have for the playoffs.

Evans (sign/trade) + Flames 1st + prospect for Nemec is my favorite idea. I think that is a solid offer for the Devils that helps the team now and also brings in a pick around 15-18 range. That's right around the 2nd waive of talent drop in this next draft. That pick will have value. What prospect? Not sure... maybe one of Beck or Mailloux.

Gainey did a wonderful job getting us out of a massive hole. Things went downhill for him when his daughter tragically died.

He didn't do a "wonderful" job, the team was shit through his whole tenure and he was worthless to fix it. He should have stepped down immediately if that's the case, he made those trades that sunk the team for years so those fall on his head. Allowing 8 important players to walk for nothing is unforgivable, shows total incompetence and ignorance of asset management. The man should never be in charge of a team after for good reason.

He did. He inherited a mess. Much worse than what Gorton/Hughes inherited

I think the Habs will trade Evans, Dvorak, Armia and Savard. I think each will return at least a 2nd in terms of value, and probably more. Dvorak probably has the least value. I don't see Hughes trading any of them for anything less than that. If the offers are terrible, he will just keep them. But I doubt they will be. I would imagine the demand will be quite high for those 4 players.

Also they might trade Pezzetta and/or Primeau. If they decide to do that, I'm not sure they will worry too much about the return. I forget if Primeau is RFA or UFA.

I'm not sure what our management does. This draft has a big drop at 20+. Late 1st rounders are more like the normal 2nd and the 2nd round is more like the normal 3rd round.

Dvorak and Savard won't return much. Armia might return more but nothing to brag about. You never know how aggressive teams get.

Evans and Anderson are the two I see teams really wanting to add. And I see Gorton/Hughes shooting for 2026 1st or grade A prospects. I think they don't really want to add more 2nd round picks in this next draft. Or even late 1st's. They will shoot for grade A prospects or 2026 picks.

Anderson with retention is something to pay attention too... not much talk about it now but I can see that bringing in a very good return for us and I have no doubt in my mind that GM's on contenders would love to add Anderson... especially on his new PK role and how he has stability playing a consistent role vs being bounced all over the line-up.

I'd pay a 2nd round pick to be rid of Dvorak early so I never have to see Marty use him like prime Jonathan Toews.
He averages 15 min a game. Can win faceoffs, and plays decent in his own zone. He actually makes our team better. If were out of the playoff race, which it looks like we will be, than sure let's get something for Dvo, but lets not pretend he is why we are losing lately when in reality he has been one of our better centers.

Players like Dach and Laine have been awful of late. I have lost patience with Dach all together

Let's not pretend that Dvo doesn't suck ass though. Ship that guy out at first opportunity. He's not part of the solution moving forward.

Dvorak will get some phone calls for sure. He's a great piece for a contender and faceoffs are a big deal that many fans overlook by a fair margin. I would not expect much in return but I do see us getting lots of phone calls.

I'm OK with Dach but not in a 2C role. Not good on faceoffs and should be on the 3rd line fighting for more min's. He needs his foundation shaken a bit to get him going. Laine is Laine... it's what we signed up for and what he will do. His shot is the asset and the rest of his game is meh. When you got him with a center like Dach who is learning on the job still, the results show.

People are going to be really surprised with the return Dvorak, Savard and Armia will bring back. Teams always overspend for guys like that at the deadline, it happens literally every freaking season. I won't be shocked at all if we walk out with an additional 2026 first, somehow.

Look at the contenders and what they have in their bottom 6. There is a lot of suck ass depth bud. Contenders will knock on the Dvorak door no doubt! We should not expect much but lets not overlook what is actually happening in the NHL right now with lack of good depth in the bottom 6 for contenders.

This draft have a significant drop around 20+ too. You are going to see a lot of late 1st's and 2nd's offered and sellers are going to target grade A's and 2026 picks as well. It should be interesting

I got no issues if he's used to win faceoffs and play defensively. But Marty never punishes him for egregious turnovers that get other players benched. He then will use him on the PP, on 6 on 5s and religiously in OT periods. It's enough already. He f***ing blows offensively, stop using him like he's more than a bit player.
