I think the biggest drawback with Josh Anderson can be described in one word- Inconsistency!
He skates like the wind, has a mean streak, will give you 20 goals a year and on some nights he looks like Eric Lindros and on other nights he is a complete no show.
I have said it many times...he can ever find consistency you have a great player.
Anderson is Big strong man with speed to burn, but not great hockey sense. He's Montreal's only forward with grit and size. Given our small roster and he can score 20, Hughes not moving him.

Scored 20 in 60 games on bad team. 30 certainly within his reach.
Ya’ll got it twisted. The Donkey had all the chances to show his worth playing top line minutes last season and the season before and he could’t pull shit.

The Donkey plays for a good team and he's sitting on the 3rd line and probably even worst.

No way he does better.

Wont happen before 3 to 4 years. Don't expect him to be that guy until he is 22. Very few players reach that level before they turn 22.
I agree but he does need to show marked improvement in areas he needs to be strong in. His board play and his net front in particular. There is absolutely nothing complicated in using your frame and skating ability to worry defenders.

No way in hell he does better.
As stupid as it may sound playing on the first line is actually not helping his production as he's not clicking at all with Suzuki and Caufield.

Yes this is what you want to see progression in his game over the years.

Anderson with 21 goals in 69 games last season shows he playing well under Marty. If he stays healthy could pop 30 this season. Which opens the door for Montreal to get over value for him in trade

I have had a few moments where I complained about Josh Anderson but the fact of the matter is that we need players like him and would be foolish to trade him.
There are some variables there. Anderson nearing 30 with hard mileage on him. This season likely his last good seadon. History shows after 30 these kind of players fall way off. If trade return over valued, i would consider move him. But only for huge return.

He's definitely a player that keeps working on improving his game even as a veteran. I really liked him after we called up RHP. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Anderson started using his linemates better and was even growing into a PK role. By the end of the season he had evolved into, as Hughes said in his post season presser, a player that pead the league in breakaways and breakaways where he didn't score, so he has to work this summer on scoring on breakaways. I hope he did work on that. And I'm. Looking forward ro seeing the fruits of his labor.

Until he loses his speed he should still be a good player. That Anderson is so fast should give him a longer career as an effective player than most that play his style.

I wouldn't move Anderson unless overpayment. But if return was right, yes I would trade him.

Showing good hands (some great pass receptions) and tighter/lower pivoting in possession than I remember. We’re low on Anderson but my own eye he’s really improving; I always found him stiff and “top heavy” but he impressed me last night.

Josh Anderson when he plays like this looks like best player in game. He scored last night, and looked fast and furious. Playing with Newhook they both very promising.

again why are we in a rush to trade a big guy who can skate, score and fight?
There's too many midgets on the team as it is.
I can think of many guys to go before him including gallagher, armia, Dvorak, pearson, etc

Because he doesn't score, he doesn't fight and he's oft injured and paid a lot for a while.

All the guys you mentioned have negative values, of course you'd want to move the bad ones before the good ones, but who's gonna want the bad ones ?

apparently he has negative value too, so imo, there's a list that goes before him. He's improved under MSL, and I personally wouldn't move him. The forward group w/o him is too small.
And he is 20 goal scorer, so he does score. I would like to see him fight more though

He has had all sorts of shoulder issues and you want him to fight?

Yeah, he had his part of games played on the top line, but 21 goals in 69 games and a lot of these games playing with Drouin, Hoffman, Slaf - all strong top liners yeah - i don't see what this " couldn't put shit" comes from.

Again and again, you need to take in consideration that the Habs were decimated by injuries last 2 seasons. That means changes of line mates all the time, that means no chemistry, that also means that he probably has played games he shouldn't have played being himself injured . That also means that most of the players were under-performing , that the other teams were dominating Habs. There was also a coach/system change..

21 goals in all these conditions was excellent. Of course he can do better
Name me 3rd /4th liners that can do better than that in the same context.

Maybe. But last night he was the only Montreal forward who was a constant threat against a near NHL team.

I don't know what is that game some fans are playing here. To say he doesn't score while he put 21 goals in 69 games with new line-mates all the time, is insulting our intelligence and understanding of the game. It's okay if you don't like the player's game/style, but be at least honest instead of lying to convince us

Thats the thing, he hasnt been that player since he left Colombus. Hes merely a fast player with size now, which is fine but not exactly the core piece he should be.
yeah I agree, he's not the core piece he should be. There's still wishful thinking on my part, that hopefully his shoulder is healed, that MSL can make him more effective.
There's a necessity element to having him from my POV; I like the addition of Monahan and Slafkovsky, but the team remains too small up front. And it seems aside from Beck, there aren't any guys coming with an edge.
Heinemann? Florian down the line.
Maybe i'm overthinking it

Anderson’s hockey IQ is pretty low and honestly other than his speed, physical presence, leadership and shot he has a lot of flaws.

For a guy his size he wouldn’t win board battles consistently, bad defensively, doesn’t really drive the net, tendency to tunnel vision on the ice and can’t really create for others.

Last offseason it was reported that he spent a lot of time working on his skills/abilities with Nicholas. And last year it did show that he was hard at work and being more confident pulling moves or deking did help him with more battles.

This year he seems to try more east-west plays instead of just running in a straight line. You can actually see him try to do things and having some success (in scrimmages and preseason). It will only help his games to have a more rounded skill set other than his one move (blazing speed with a shot).

I like Anderson. He put in the work and I do hope he gets more success even if it’s limited. Teams have to be aware of him on the ice because of the speed he can bring and defensemen have to precipitate plays when Anderson is coming with speed. Some of the plays he will pull might not work, but it will definitely give him a better arsenal offensively.

I believe he was the most dangerous player on the ice for Habs against New Jersey.
