Unless we are referring to different articles, that is not what the athletic article said. One of the feeder sites that picked up on the original athletic article completely fabricated what was said by basu indicating that Fitzgerald was willing to trade holtz for Anderson. Basu was ostensibly wondering if there was an avenue for a future Anderson / Holtz deal because new Jersey had interest previously. Here is the section of the article:

"I know the New Jersey Devils showed interest in him last season, and I don’t know if that’s changed with the acquisition of Timo Meier, but they can serve as an example of how an Anderson trade to a contender could work. The Devils have been slowly giving more and more to Alexander Holtz – the No. 7 pick in the 2020 draft – but unless he takes a big leap this season, the Devils might come to the conclusion he doesn’t quite fit their window, which is right now. If the Canadiens could leverage Anderson as a win-now proposition into a young player with growth potential, they will surely do it. It might not be Holtz, but it would likely take someone like him to convince the Canadiens to move Anderson because I don’t think he is viewed as someone they absolutely have to trade."
I don't think Hughes would trade him for Holtz actually. Because Anderson only quality forward we have with size

He's going to play with either Suzuki/Caufield or Newhook/Dach/Monahan/Slaf. I see him having a good year because he will have good puck handlers with him. Anderson is at his best when he just has to forecheck, backcheck and shoot. I like that his passing and playmaking seemed to improve a tiny bit with MSL, and while I'm not expecting more improvement, any improvement at all is welcome. But if he is free to skate without the puck, then he's going to be impactful IMO

He's never going to be known as a skilled playmaker that's for sure. But you re right the one thing Anderson has done is reel in his aggression to the point where he isn't usually taking himself out of the play. He just needs to use his frame to create turnovers and make the simple play a.s.a.p. The longer he holds onto the puck the more chance his play will break down.

Trade to a contender. Power forwards tend to breakdown once they hit 30 and we aren't contenders for a while still. Won't get a better return than right now.
LOL. No, right now is a terrible time to trade someone with term.

scores 30 this season.
I was at the game when he scored his first and best goal last year. He has the tools to score a minimum of 15 goals this season. If he would just fire the puck and follow it to the net he'd score more goals and create some havoc.

He was one of our better players before his injury, and was actually playing consistent forceful hockey which has been on of his main road blocks He showed last season that he has put work in his playmaking ability, and I'm looking forward to see how he has improved this year. Knock on wood, that he can stay healthy- I can see him having a career year if he continues from where he left off.

He played with Suzuki and Caufield last year for the first 20 games or so and it was painful to watch and a total fiasco. It was like there was only two forward on the ice. Don't think MSL will try again. He played much better with RHP to finish the year. I think either Dach or Monahan will play with Caufield and Suzuki depending on which one is the 2nd line center.

I know it's an unpopular opinion but Josh Anderson is kind of a middle six winger. He has attributes to make him more interesting than most middle six players but he's no bona fide top 6 guy. He showed lot of cracks in his game last year while playing with Suzuki and Caufield enough that if i was a GM trying to acquire him i'd be very cautious about the price i would end up paying.

The thread title is a joke but Rene Bourque in his prime was as productive as Anderson in his prime. He was a tank too. The guy just hit a wall when he turned 30 which happens often with this kind of player (Wayne Simmonds, Lucic, James Neal, Ryan Malone, Modin, Ladd, ...).

The Donkey struggles to reach 30 points per season and now he's supposed to score 30 goals?

He is capable of putting up between 25-30 goals and between 35-40 pts.

2020-21 (1st season with MTL): 17 goals & 24 pts in 52 GP (27 goals & 38 pts prorated)
2021-22 (2nd season with MTL): 19 goals & 32 pts in 69 GP (23 goals & 38 pts prorated)
2022-23 (3rd season with MTL): 21 goals & 32 pts in 69 GP (25 goals & 38 pts prorated)

But Anderson can also impact a game without getting on the scoresheet. The unfortunate part is that because he plays the style of game he plays, he is prone to get hurt at some point during the season.

He paced for 25 last year and 26 two years ago. He's pretty consistently in that 25 goal range. 30 would not be outlandish for a one time career year.
In his 9 seasons he's only gotten over 25 goals once. On pace is a nice indicator but it would be nice to see him get there.
This Donkey also put up 27 goals, and 47 pts a few years ago.
That was 5 seasons ago and he only did it once.

Yeah and context matters, he has the ability to be a 50+ pt player. He's had some injuries in that time, and he's been playing for one of the worst teams in the league. That injury last year was on a pretty greasy play from Sergachev too, he was pretty health until that happened.

It's also not fair to see that he's missed 10-20 games a season and say he would have definitely gotten 0 points in those games.

He's had plenty of opportunities playing along side Nick Suzuki getting first line minutes and could barely produce. Thinking he can get over 50 points is a stretch. He's been producing like a 3rd liner the vast majority of his career.

He did miss some action due to injuries but it's not like it was a substantial amount ~10 games the past 2 seasons.

One thing I will say is that he looked much better before he got injured. Maybe he's learned some new tricks under MSL? Let's see if he can build on that.

Anderson was doing good at the end of the season before the injury he just needs to be more consistent

That was a bad injury tho hopefully the ankle is fully recovered because skating is a big part of his game

He played with RHP. He didn’t have to think too much, they were dumping pucks in the zone and it worked. When you ask him to play with skilled players and make plays that’s where it fells appart.

He had a hot streak at the very end of the season and, iirc, around January/Feb. Otherwise I don't see the fuss. He doesn't even forecheck that well. I really don't like his profile of player and when I read descriptions and references to him sometimes his boosters end up describing Tom Wilson or Timo Meier or someone who is definitely not Josh Anderson. Anderson is a very flawed player who can chip in dirty goals due to his size and better-than-expected mobility. He's not particularly hungry for physical action and he's not otherwise skilled as a passer or shooter. I think what you see is what you get with him, injuries included.

yeah .. put him with hard working northsouth players that put the puck on net and he wont be lost. Just dont ask him to play creatively

Wilson and Meier are much better players but Anderson isnt that bad like i said i just wish he was more consistent because when he decides to play he does make a difference imo
