Trade to a contender. Power forwards tend to breakdown once they hit 30 and we aren't contenders for a while still. Won't get a better return than right now.
No contender has that kind of cap space...

He's here to stay!

Hopefully, he doesn't fall off a cliff suddenly.

You might be right! We're still hoping for him to peak!
I am not hoping anymore but you can always be surprised I guess. In the last years I don t think a power forward was the reason any team won the cup. Yet so many people love power forwards… because he big, he skate fast…

Well, Tkachuk just dragged the Panthers to the finals...

Tkachuk is not a stabdard powerforward he is an elite forward, with elite shot, IQ… sure give me a Jagr if you have one and if Slaf becomes a Jagr I ll be ecstatic ! But top 6 power forward who are loved because they are big and skate fast…

I think Anderson is overpaid, given that his best season was a 47pt season playing wih Panarin…

Anderson will be just fine with the cap going up, as long as he stays healthy.

Wilson just got signed to a contract that will bring him to 36 years old...

Caps are just playing for Ovi during 3 years and then have the longest rebuild ever, they don t care. ;)

Basu had article in Athletic is was Holtz.

Unless we are referring to different articles, that is not what the athletic article said. One of the feeder sites that picked up on the original athletic article completely fabricated what was said by basu indicating that Fitzgerald was willing to trade holtz for Anderson. Basu was ostensibly wondering if there was an avenue for a future Anderson / Holtz deal because new Jersey had interest previously. Here is the section of the article:

"I know the New Jersey Devils showed interest in him last season, and I don’t know if that’s changed with the acquisition of Timo Meier, but they can serve as an example of how an Anderson trade to a contender could work. The Devils have been slowly giving more and more to Alexander Holtz – the No. 7 pick in the 2020 draft – but unless he takes a big leap this season, the Devils might come to the conclusion he doesn’t quite fit their window, which is right now. If the Canadiens could leverage Anderson as a win-now proposition into a young player with growth potential, they will surely do it. It might not be Holtz, but it would likely take someone like him to convince the Canadiens to move Anderson because I don’t think he is viewed as someone they absolutely have to trade."

I can't remember ever seeing such a large group of players hanging. It's always been a tad more cliquish. I don't think it's all PR either.

C'mon Ghule eat that second helping...
It's because we did not build thru the draft like ever since the Richer/Corson/Chelios days. Players drafted together (or close) spend rookie camps together, training camps together, often for a few years, then maybe they play AHL for a year or two together. The only time we had that was when Subban, Price and Patch were all drafted close to each other. Sadly we did the mistake to trade McDO. It could have been a great core.

For way too many years we tried to stay relevant by trading for or signing vets who were not elite but were good enough to keep our head outside of the water. Mercenaries who did not care much about the team. There's a sense of belonging that comes with being part of a team who drafted you and gave you a chance to make it even for a player Like Suzuki since we acquired him right after he was drafted and we paid the high price for him.

Habs aren't pint sized anymore
I think it's strange that the little guys aren't invited to these things. No Gally, no RHP, Cole only goes on singles dates with Nick. I guess even the players don't want midgets. :sarcasm:

Of all the midgets from last year though only RHP, Gally, Cole and Farrell are returning with Farrell probably starting in Laval. The team isn't anywhere near as small as people claim. None of our prospects coming up are midgets either. Gally will be gone sooner than later so you're left with three small forwards and Hutson.

it's still a thing with all the sponge heads on the main board though

Anderson is a big part of the team. A 20 goal scorer with size and elite skating. The league also knows he can fight and that is important to have on your team. No reason to trade him.
But … but … the thread title infers that he’s like the completely clueless and abhorrent René Bourque! Worst thread title ever somehow survives.

It’s never been about size since we’ve all seen big players who play small and are not that physical. Size per se is meaningless unless it involves physicality and this to me is the element that we seem to have more and more of, despite several undersized players.
