He had a hot streak at the very end of the season and, iirc, around January/Feb. Otherwise I don't see the fuss. He doesn't even forecheck that well. I really don't like his profile of player and when I read descriptions and references to him sometimes his boosters end up describing Tom Wilson or Timo Meier or someone who is definitely not Josh Anderson. Anderson is a very flawed player who can chip in dirty goals due to his size and better-than-expected mobility. He's not particularly hungry for physical action and he's not otherwise skilled as a passer or shooter. I think what you see is what you get with him, injuries included.
I would say he has a pretty heavy shot as well, considering close to half his goals came from it last season. I think Anderson's physical game has been one of his biggest inconsistencies, there are nights when it's simply not there, but other games where he's a beast. How much is that mental or is he dealing with something minor, and not wanting to aggravate it? Before his injury he was putting up points, but he was very physical too. No player is perfect, but when Anderson when is on he's a very useful player for us.

I think the biggest drawback with Josh Anderson can be described in one word- Inconsistency!
He skates like the wind, has a mean streak, will give you 20 goals a year and on some nights he looks like Eric Lindros and on other nights he is a complete no show.
I have said it many times...he can ever find consistency you have a great player.

Question: is his inconsistency from the last 2 seasons due to tanking? not giving his all because they simply did not have to,why go all out killing yourselves when the mandate was to tank for draft rank. He showed last year that he was working on things and making strides to improve his overall game. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with when he is on top of his game.He is a physical presence, one that Montreal is in short supply of.

I think during his entire career he has never been consistent. Against Toronto he looks like a hall of famer but against Florida he skates by Gudas who cheap shots everybody

That is entirely possible but have not watched him his whole career. The past is the past and should be focusing on what he has done to improve his game and did the last 2 season have an impact? The season will soon be upon us and answers to questions shall unfold.

I think he is a great piece on the 3rd line. He plays his best when pissed off. He needs to be pissed off more often.
Indeed I'm talking in terms of a being a top 6 player. We can probably spot him there the odd game in a pinch but he is far too limited talent wise for an aspiring club.
A player of his ilk is whom?
We need Slafkovsky to become the beast in our core group. The guy who can seperate defenders from the puck and make a play with it.
Josh can seperate players from the puck but his downfall is the second part of the equation. There is nothing in his stats or his pedigree that indicates
this will improve. The guy averages about 10 assists per season which frankly is pathetic. For all the hype Anderson gets a guy like Nick Foligno has had a better career.

I don't remember if it's Denis or Dubé who said that but, you could tell from his first shift which Anderson you're going to have for the night. For me, that's the kind of guy you need in a lineup, and you have to deal with his weaknesses.

We will need an upgrade on Josh Anderson before we can win anything. That is fairly clear in my mind.
Or, he’ll continue to fill a viable role when that upgrade is found but he can be used on a 3rd line at that point and his AAV will be digestible given the expected rising cap coming after this season.

MSL loved the Hoff. Dosent seem fond of the power donkey.
You know honestly? When it came to MSL constanly playing hoff top 6 and PP it always felt more like HuGo and MSL agreed in a meeting they'd play the shit out of him to up the value of trading him
Whether that helped us get the 2nd round pick or whether it was just shrewd GMing,
Ones things for sure, if MSL truly loved him.. he'd still be here..

Anderson meanwhile, albeit limited in his skillet, can be played up and down and all over the line up NP

I don't know if it's for the pleasure to talk during the summertime , but seriously, how does a player be consistent, playing for a team that finished 30th and put a new record for the second consecutive season for the number of games missed by injuries.

That 's a deny or what ? Who have been "consistent" last seasons ? witch players? It was nearly impossible to do so, with new line mates each 2-3 games, playing with AHLers , or a different role.

I don't point you here, sorry if it gave you this feeling, but lot of fans whom still omit these major considerations in their analyse .

Consistency and he can't pass the puck to save his life. He has zero vision on the ice when he carries the puck.

If he were able to play his best 80% of the time, he'd be a legit power forward to be feared. Currently. he's a side of beef who can skate, cause some anxiety on the O zone for the opposing team and score 20+. I just wish he'd play harder more often.

I can see where you're going but don't understand comparing the thee players you mentioned. Foligno is a superior player to Anderson, but not nearly his size at 6' and 208lbs. Both of those players grew up playing rough and tumble hockey as you can see by their PIM throughout their career and are not squeamish to get nasty. Small sample size from Slaf but judging from his career PIM he does not seem like the player to get to that type of player a la Tkachuk brothers.

In his prime Foligno showed how he could consistently maximize his 6' 210 lbs frame something Anderson has never done. Slaf doesn't need to be a nasty boy but what he does need to do is to use his size to own his space and control play. He has the top 6 potential Anderson never had.

Foligno shows how ineffective Anderson has been in the role we gave him and how he maximizes his frame. Slaf doesn't need to be a nasty boy but what he does need to do is to use his size to own his space and control play. One has top 6 potential the other never had it.
Slaf needs to play Alex Tuch style hockey - no nastiness but using big body to positon & drive the net

Wont happen before 3 to 4 years. Don't expect him to be that guy until he is 22. Very few players reach that level before they turn 22.
