I don't get why people wants him to be traded. Yes, he is no Guy Lafleur, but he still is a strong, fast guy with a good attitude. He seems to be a good influence around younger players as well.

Of course, if he was worth more that what Lek and Toffoli returned, it should be a no brainer. But until that happens, he's valuable to the Habs. Being traded might be good for him, because he's the type of player whose value is greater in the playoffs, and the Habs sadly couldn't offer him these occasions enough to do him justice

As valuable as his 6 pts in 22gp was in the Finals Run playoffs, the Habs are not going to be in the playoff picture as a contender in either of the next two seasons. It's a waste of his valuable time and his career to hold onto him. He needs another shot at the Cup and the Habs need to sell him before the inevitable injury troubles derail his trade value. It isn't about the necessity of getting rid of him, it's more about optimizing the roster so the players under contract are meant to compete for the same things at the same times.

Anderson is a bit older than the core and his style of play will lead to injuries -- why should he not have another shot with a contender?

Unless you think the Habs will be in the playoff picture, I don't see why he shouldn't be traded for a market-appropriate return.

I don't think the market is appropriate at the moment, else he would have already been dealt for the reasons that you stated.

Hughes hinted that he was available in the past. Until his value is in the Lehk-Toffoli range, which could be as late as the last year of his deal, he is a better asset to help growing the team than a 2nd round pick IMO

If Anderson, somehow, has a 25 G, 50-point season playing with Newhook and Slafkovsky (should that end up being a line for MSL), I can see him getting traded at the deadline to a team that lacks size for this year's playoffs, or in the offseason, to a team that realizes, now, that it lacks size for the playoffs (quick exit where they were physically dominated).

Otherwise, Anderson will need stay healthy because his optimal value will likely be in the last year of his current deal, as a rental.

If he can return a 1st and a prospect at the deadline..........he could be gone.
I like the guy, and his style, but he has limitations to how many points he gets, because he can't pass the puck to anyone, he can shoot, but not pass.
Love his hustle and crashing style......would not mind if he stayed another year either....

That's precisely why I see more upside in Heineman than Anderson, if everything comes together for this prospect. Better hockey IQ and better playmaking to go with a similar quality shot Anderson.

Heineman, though, is still a shoot first type of player, if not even a shoot at all cost type of player.

If Anderson nets a first round pick (even a late one) and a prospect -- AND can be moved without holding back Cap/salary, he as good as gone, guaranteed.

Heineman, next season, would be a candidate to replace what Anderson brings to our roster at next no cost, Cap-wise, and without the wear and tear of the older veteran.

If Anderson is putting up 50 points on that line chances are we are in the thick of the playoff race at the deadline.

You're going to have to expand on that, because that seems like a big leap in logic.
If Andersson is getting 25 assists that means his linemates are likely scoring 50+ goals combined, and at least one is probably hitting 60+ points. If we are getting that on top of Caufield/Suzuki/Dach producing as expected then we are more then likely a top-10 if not top-5 offensive team and as such are more then likely to be in a playoff spot.

That's a pretty big leap in logic tbh. Anderson getting 25 assists instead of his pace of around 13 doesn't mean he's got two 20+ goal scorers on his line, it may just mean he's more involved in the play or that he was healthy and his linemates scored around 5-7 more goals than before.

I also don't think you've been keeping track of how offense has exploded if you think that makes Montreal a top-10 offensive team. Or that that would even mean Montreal would be in a playoff spot. Montreal was 47 goals away from the top-10 in team scoring and they were worse defensively than they were offensively. That second part is more important, since you can look at Buffalo finishing 3rd in scoring and missing the playoffs despite being better defensively than Montreal.

And was Buffalo not in the thick of the playoff race at the TDL? If a team has that kind of scoring even with bad defensive/goaltending they will be in the playoff picture and not be looking to sell but to buy.

47 goals may seem like a lot but it's already down to 29 because of Anderson's increased production alone. Whether he is more involved in the play or not doesn't change the fact someone has to be scoring the goals he's assisting on and being healthy and becoming more involved won't fundamentally change the fact that Anderson isn't a guy who will carry his line offensively, he will always be a commentary player which means at least one of his linemates producing more then him. And if that's a steady line it also means that the top line will be relatively healthy because when it's not Anderson is usually a guy who gets shuffled there.

That's with a top-5 offense and a better defence. And that's still not "in a playoff spot".

And none of your assumptions line up.

-You don't just cut down team goals like that. What, there's no opportunity cost at all and all Montreal's goals involving Anderson will only have one player getting an assist?
-Producing more than 50 points is not a high bar, its a very low bar.
-Anderson isn't "usually the guy shuffled there", he was the guy frequently shuffled there. And health played a role there. But Monahan, RHP, and especially Dach are the guys that would go there before him.

i mean 50 points is a pretty high bar for someone that yearly doesn't even get to 40. If he hits 50, it's definitely not due to his assists getting up. He'd have to score 30+ goals, which is more realistic.

Because he is a valuable piece and should fetch a great return.

So out of curiosity Anderson hits 50 points, where do you think that puts him production wise among our forwards? Because I can't see him ending up higher then 5th among our forwards unless he ends up on the top line. So yeah it's not a high bar but it also means you've got at 4 other forwards hitting 50 points, whereas last year we had a single guy who did it.

4th or 5th sounds like the highest assuming a relatively healthy season (which is a bad assumption). Could easily be 2nd or 3rd depending on injuries.

4 or 5 forwards hitting 50 points also doesn't mean that much though unless one or two are hitting substantial more than 50 points and/or the defensive game is MASSIVELY improved. You'd still be looking at a team with a large negative goal differential.

Anderson scored 27 goals for Colombus one season. All 5vs5, he never played on their powerplay. So, the skill is definitely there.

Should have been traded the moment Kent Hughes came in. He’s losing value quick. Interesting to see how all of this plays out.
His value is still probably the same. He is fast, big and can rushes. That's all the GMs sees and care about. MSL is totally the wrong coach for him thought, Torts got more out of Andy than anyone.

Should’ve traded him when he had value.
I’m sure they tried. I wouldn’t have moved him for less than a first. They probably didn’t receive an offer including one.

Too bad he’s dropped off but without Dach in the lineup the talent is so thin.

If nothing else please remove him from the PP. He is the definition of play killer
