If we sign Bernier then this trade would look pretty good.

I think this means Holloway is a given now. Frattin helps our bottom 6 a good amount, Scrivens is our back up. Just hopefully we sign Holloway. That'd be a very good line up.

Doesn't seem like a bad deal for the Kings (especially with the 500k cap space). I'll be following the Leafs more closely next season, hopefully Bernier does well!

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: I believe that Philadelphia and another team were hard in the mix as well at the end along with Toronto. Flyers offering Matt Read...

I'd rather Frattin than Read bcuz of the UFA/RFA status

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: The $500,000 that Toronto retained in the deal will give the Kings important cap savings as they try to re-sign Rob Scuderi for example...

IF Scuderi's extension is part of this overall package I will be thrilled.

Kings needed that $500k to get Scuderi done if that's indeed the motive.

I actually think Frattin is being brought in to play with Richards/Carter on the 2nd line. I have little hope that Holloway will be signed now. I hope I'm wrong, but that's how I see it.

I agree. I like Read better as a player, but his contract status scared me off

Lisa Dillman reporting that talks with Scuderi are progressing...

Oh man, I REALLY hope he returns. That extra $500k we saved could go a long way with that. Now that there seems to be a method to Dean's madness this trade isn't as bad as I thought...

Scrivens has nowhere near that value, he will be the back-up this year because he is cheap. Hopefully we sign Holloway now

I would agree if not for the Eakins connection in EDM. It would give them a nice battling tandem for starter much like TO and TB. Other than with EDM Scrivens doesn't hold 2nd rd pick value.

"Frattin and a second this year and one of your solid B prospects would be a good return but then I have watched Frattin play allot before he made the Leafs and I love the kid. I also think that if he hadn't been injured that he would have scored 20 goals this season."

This is what I heard the Leafs had offered when I posted it before and even then it turned out to be slightly different. The second is next year but Scrivens is a solid B prospect who has shown glimpses of being more than just a back up. He doesn't compare to Bernier but that doesn't mean he won't become a starter in the NHL. Kid can also play hockey.

Frattin a second and a back up goalie who is young solid and cheap + $500k is just a great deal.

I think DL did a great job and not only addressed a team need and smartly at that but it also keeps us cap right and gives us the room we need to do what still needs to get done.

Quick and Scrivens makes a very good 1/2 tandem.

Frattin is at worst a significant upgrade over Penner/King/Clifford and gives us allot of room to make additional adjustments.

We needed a 2nd next year (or 15 too) so that too has been filled.

I like this deal and in the end it fits our team perfectly over the rest.

Would I rather have had Read? Yes. But he is a UFA next season and will rightly get a big raise (I think in the mid $3m range) in 14 and could want to leave to another team which would have given us nothing to show for having dealt one of the best young goalies in the game.

We just got a ton better on the left side and deeper. DL picked the right offer.

My dark horse rumored team was the Flames who almost stepped in and got JB at the end but it wasn't meant to be.

Willie out Scuds back in? Could be.

That line up is sexy if it were to happen.

I'll be cheering for Frattin big time. He's going to be a fan favorite very quickly. His lower balance is Crosby like and his shot is as hard as anybody. If he can figure it out, he's a great scoring winger that bangs.

Just a stupid trade by the Leafs..

Are they going to deal reimer now? I really don't get it after the way reimer played this year.

all you guys need to know about Bernier is this

Bernier > Price

Don't really like the fact we got Scrivens. Bernier barely played under quick. I think we should of gotten someone that wasn't a goalie. I know we didn't have a back up but 10-15 games a season quick wouldn't of been bad.

We needed a backup and obviously DL didn't think Jones was ready. Are we going to get a backup for less than the $612K a season Scrivens makes? Doubtful. And Scrivens is GOOD. He's put up good numbers everywhere he's gone, he's got real upside to him.

God... This is bad. We got robbed, I'm really not happy, thought we could get something a little better. Bernier is a damn pro.

Also, shoutouts to Matt Barry on calling Matt Frattin & a 1st. The guy does actually have inside sources.

How did we get robbed? We got a good return. A very solid return.

Frattin is 25 and has yet to play a season where he has not been demoted to the minors, Scrivens is a throw in, and the 2nd could be as late as 2015. I think people are looking through some serious rose colored glasses at this trade

7 goals in 25 games, which is a 20 goal pace. And he's only getting better.

And Scrivens isn't a throw in. He's very good and very inexpensive.

Not from Toronto but in general. Scrivens is a scrub and Frattin had 7 goals last season lol. I'm not sold but I never second guess Lombardi, guess we'll have to see how this one plays out.

You don't know anything about either player we got, that's pretty obvious.

Those 7 goals came in the first 10 games, he was later demoted to the minors

No he wasn't. He played in the minors during the lockout, not after. He was with Torotno right through the playoffs.

I actually think Frattin is being brought in to play with Richards/Carter on the 2nd line. I have little hope that Holloway will be signed now. I hope I'm wrong, but that's how I see it.

I have no doubt that he will be tried there, just like all Kings wingers, but I doubt he'll stick on the second line.

Is there a link for this or do we have to wait?

Have to wait, but it is going on right now so we should have details within the hour or so.

Anyone think Holloway would be signed now? Think it'd be a great addition with Frattin in our line up. Holloway and Frattin playing left wing would make us much more better.

So basically we lost a goalie who plays 15-20 games a season and got one back to replace him, PLUS we got a winger who will replace Penner and his salary and is a RFA after this season, a second round pick AND $500,000?? How can anyone complain about this? Frattin is 3 years younger than Read and is a RFA instead of a UFA next season. If he plays on the 2nd line he can do a lot of the dirty work for Carter which will also extend Richards' shelf life. The second is great and the $500,000 may allow us to re-sign Scuderi.

Brilliant work by Dean!!!

Now that I've come to my senses, I think this is a pretty good deal for both teams. Obviously we were handcuffed in the Bernier discussions, teams knew we had no choice but to deal him because of his RFA status and whatnot. Frattin will hopefully fill in Penner's role/hole and Scrivens will do well behind Quick. The 2nd rounder is also solid and the 500K just helps us in Scuderi negotiations. I get to watch more Bernier now, he'll thrive and he's a true professional. Hopefully the trade works out for both teams.
