I don't think injured players can be bought out and if he's healthy Mitchell is going nowhere. LA could still sign Scuderi to around $3.5M a season and be just under the cap but would likely only be able to carry 22 players to start the season

I thought Mitchell was cleared to play but didn't feel he could.

Reaction from Bernier. This helps with our image on how DL treats his players.

"I was very happy -- Dean is a man of his word," Bernier told ESPN.com. "I felt he would keep it, and he did. All the teams in the mix were great teams, but I have to tell you I'm so happy that it's Toronto."

Nice to hear Bernier speak well of DL. I know he's been waiting a long time to get a shot at being #1.

So basically we lost a goalie who plays 15-20 games a season and got one back to replace him, PLUS we got a winger who will replace Penner and his salary and is a RFA after this season, a second round pick AND $500,000?? How can anyone complain about this? Frattin is 3 years younger than Read and is a RFA instead of a UFA next season. If he plays on the 2nd line he can do a lot of the dirty work for Carter which will also extend Richards' shelf life. The second is great and the $500,000 may allow us to re-sign Scuderi.

Brilliant work by Dean!!!
Looks like the same age to me.

That's something that is earning DL a great rep I'm sure around the league with players. How many times has he done that now? He didn't call around about Gagne, he called Philly only because that where' Gagne wanted to go. Same with Smythe. He really cares about his players and is honest with them. That goodwill goes a long way, and the players appreciate it, as will players who might be considering playing wth the Kings

Frattin is essentially Dusty Brown-lite.

He finally started hitting more this season, guy is built like a truck. He can absolutely decimate people at times. He'll fit in nicely with you guys.

Good trade for both teams, IMO.

Leaf fan with a question. The year you guys won the cup, did Bernier get a ring too? Leafs don't have anyone in the lockerroom with a cup ring. So hopefully Bernier's got one to show the boys what it's all about.

Here's his ring :)

ah, good to know hopefully he flashes that think to Riemer every once and a while.

There will be a Hbo 24/7 series, right? I really liked Bernier, gotta root for him to get his first 30 W season.

I already root for Toronto so this is nice. This looks like a trade that is good for both teams. It would really be nice if Frattin could slot in on that 2nd line.

The thread was titled Anyone But Toronto for a reason. If Read and a pick was on the table as rumored, it feels like a mistake to pass over it. On the list of rumored packages I'd have wanted, Frattin was last. It makes sense getting a 2nd in one of those years since we get one of the Regehr picks back and Dean ****ing KILLS it in the 2nd round but still. We need a 1st.

Surprised the 2nd is next year. O well.

Hope Frattin turns out well, his offense vanished this last season when he came back from injury.

He is a very young player, I just don't see the kid being a top six player.

But he could turn out to be a dynamite bottom six, like Clifford should be.

Getting a cheap backup Goalie was good. Jones has to pick it up now.

If we can fill the second line LW position with either Holloway or Penner, a third line of Frattin-Stoll-Toffoli looks DAMN good.

Hey Kings fans just wanted to mention that starting next season Ben Scrivens is on a 1 way contract, so if they wanted to send him to the AHL he needs to clear waivers. Last summer Scrivens signed a 2 year/ 2 way contract and only for the 2012-2013 season he could have been sent to the AHL without clearing waivers. So that part of his contract has now finished.

One-way doesn't impact on waivers at all. One-way means he gets paid the same, whether in the minors or the NHL.

Maybe a first wasn't on the table from any team?

And Frattin is a good player, a very good player.

Maybe, could be 2015 as well.

And if it wasn't, you take the Read deal. I'm not sold on Frattin and I won't be until I see him play in our system.

I would have liked Read, he is more of an established NHL roster player. Plays top six minutes already too.

I vision Frattin as a more skilled version of Clifford with better hockey IQ.

But regardless, Both players will look different in the Kings system.

Matt Frattin had his best games with Kadri but the knee injury caused him to lose his spot on that line, while Kadri continued to soar. 3 assists in his final 15 games was definitely disappointing as we were all anxiously awaiting his return from the knee injury but he came back and flopped pretty hard. I think a lot of his success was inflated riding shotgun with Kadri.

That being said, Frattin is one of my faves as I was there to witness his overtime game winner against buffalo where he started to become a fan favourite last season. The guy can hit like a train and skates with a lot of momentum and determination making him difficult to contain sometimes. Hes got a really heavy wrist shot but he never uses it enough. Even if he wasn't contributing offensively he gave the leafs intensity and always finished his checks. 100% agree with the Dustin Brown lite comparisons.

Hope he succeeds out west. Good trade for both clubs I guess, but can Bernier improve on Reimers strong numbers from last year?

No one can really know that.

But it makes Reimer work ten times harder, Johnny B is a legit Goalie at the NHL.

That is the type of situation you want your Goalies in.

Thanks for the info on Frattin. I'm not worried about the riding shotgun to Kadri part. If he can play on the left, he'll be on a line centered by Mike Richards with Jeff Carter on the right. Richards is a distributor first. If Frattin can get in position to score, he's going to have plenty of opportunities. Is he good at digging pucks out of the corners? The second line needs that kind of skill set to compliment Richards and Carter.

In regards to Bernier, I'll be shocked if he doesn't supplant Reimer and fairly early. Any time the guy has gotten steady amounts of starts, he's been outstanding. The thing about Bernier is that he doesn't ever look like he's standing on his head because he's rarely in poor position to make saves. He makes it look easy and other than being poor in shootouts, he doesn't have a lot of holes in his game.

You can't is my understanding as well but as long as he doesn't screw us and retire we can place him on LTIR and essentially get the salary back.

Also, I'm not sure why anyone is surprised the 2nd is 2014/2015. We lost both of those to get Regehr. Dean is pretty ****ing MONEY in the 2nd round. Can't go 2 years without one.

Yeah hes got great lower body strength and knows how to lean on defenceman to make space for himself; he isn't effective if he isn't being physical. I can see him thriving on a line with Richards if they get some good chemistry going, he has the potential to be a good finisher if he uses his physical presence around the net.

One thing about Reimer was that he stunk at handling the puck and would prematurely smother the puck for a faceoff too many times. Hows Berniers puckhandling? Scrivens is probably even worse with the puck unfortunately :shakehead
