As someone who is about the biggest Zegras critic there is, his remaining contract is small enough and his value potentially distressed enough that he’s almost interesting.
I’d be down for Zegras all day. I know what he is and I accept it but something about Zegras and Hughes on the powerplay would put the entertain in entertainment

Ehh...I probably slightly lean Cozens, and that's with me bashing him lately. He is younger and the cap hit is lower, and there isn't the same injury history, so I think your risk of a "bad" outcome is lower. He is much worse defensively than Norris, but I kinda lean that way because he does more interesting things offensively and is a better ES scorer.

Norris a finisher. That's just what he is. VAN needs some guys to create chances and drive offense.

I saw this coming, re: Norris/Lindholm cap dump 2C.

It's realistically the only path they have left.

Yup. They essentially have to target players that are considered damaged goods but younger: ie. Chytil, Norris, Cozens, or established players that are on bad teams but would be aged out by a rebuild: ie. Forsberg, Tuch, McCann, Vatrano, Konecny (pipe dream)

Bingo.

Forsberg, if only NSH valued Miller highly...

You're not trading E.Pettersson because he's a negative value asset. Gonna have to wait that one out.
I think we screwed ourselves with M.Pettersson. He's got us between a rock and hard place and we don't need him long term anyway with DPetey. We're not contending for anything with this crap roster. Was a unnecessary devaluation of that draft pick into another OEL type situation. I would be re shopping him back into the market asap
Mercer or Cozens would be s smart move if they could make something happen

zegras and tochett would NOT get along. his attuide and childish manners will rub people the wrong way
tocchet is not a john tortorella or a dean evason. i highly doubt that.

Tocchet LOVES communicative and talkative people. He already thinks our dressing room is "quiet" and since day 1 has preached about wanting his guys to stay in touch with each other off the ice and have a commraderie identity.

Value wise what would you give? Would guess Hoglander would be part of it?

Theres no problem having 3 good LD. Theres always injuries and you dont count your chickens after the first game. We’ve seen lots start strong only to realize they arent quite ready

I've always liked Zegras, but his 2way game is so erratic that I don't see a fit with Tocchet.

Would be an interesting test case though.

Are you actually saying they would have to pay to be rid of Pettersson? Really? Not a chance.

MPetey was a necessary evil given their intention to re-tool the re-tool. Unlikely DPetey will be as good as MPetey within the next 2~ years.

Whatever you can say about this management group, their patterns are evident.

Maybe we can move Chytil in a package to get Cozens

Weird, I had this thought as well.

Something that is possible if they don't bring Norris here. Actually, it could be even if they do, as it would mimic the Pettersson-Miller-Lindholm rotation they tried to put in place last offseason.

A couple of days since the J.T. Miller blockbuster, I'm mellowing a bit. The Canucks might have made out OK in this deal.

They added Chytil and Mancini from the Rangers; and basically flipped the first rounder to the Pens to get Marcus Pettersson and O'Connor.

Perhaps as importantly they unloaded more than $12m in salary. And with $10m in their jeans, they might really be able to do some 'big game hunting' at the TDL.

Maybe it's not as bad as I thought initially. At least their dressing-room will be loose and happy. And isn't hockey supposed to be 'fun', even for pro players?

Ill be curious if Columbus is interested in Boeser as an offensive winger to help out while they deal with injuries.

I could see the Vancouver Canucks taking back an expiring contract if necessary to help facilitate a deal with any team if it means getting the guy they wanted.

I figure Dallas maybe off the market as they grabbed Granlund from San Jose.

I wonder if Colorado circles back to Brock or if Vegas is a surprise interested team.

As for UFA season I wouldn't mind them going after Frederic, Olivier or Ehlers if they hit ufa. Marner would Be nice but ill assume he re-signs in Toronto

It was a terrible trade. The minute we moved Miller we should b
have been in a retool not signing 29yr old free agents for 2nd pair LD at whatever they want. Rangers are in last place and they hand over that 1st like candy when without a top6 C this team is going nowhere

CBJ has been rumoured to be interested. I would love to try and grab Sillinger.

I think I look at Norris as buy low, wonder if they would value Hog at all, just for our stand point a contract to send back.

Sillinger for Brock would be a good base to work from.

And I would 100% be after Ehlers. I wanted to draft him… sigh.

3 roster players, one top 6 forward, one top pairing defenseman, one depth forward, and one highly ranked prospect. The team is younger and the defense looks a lot deeper now. It's really not that bad of a haul tbh in totality.

Dumped two bad contracts and cleared some cap. All while losing one player and one prospect.

The Rangers are in last place? What? That pick is currently 12 and they are trending toward playoffs, not the other way around.

If you do a giant retool and cross your fingers that the Rangers pick is high, Hughes walks, end of story.

Theres probably big changes to the forwards this summer. We really cant be drafting and waiting in this era of Hughes. Trading Miller is a retool move, we got out of his retirement deal but yes will miss the production hes given us. Our D isfinally looking decent finally and now wehave tons of cap space for forwards and our 1st burning a hole in our pocket

We are retooling and signing one of the best defensive D men in the game to a long-term contract is part of that process. People were upset when we didn't re-sign Tanev and now are hesitant about the prospect of locking up a younger, Swedish version of him.
