God... This is bad. We got robbed, I'm really not happy, thought we could get something a little better. Bernier is a damn pro.

Also, shoutouts to Matt Barry on calling Matt Frattin & a 1st. The guy does actually have inside sources.

Posts like this are absurd. How is Bernier worth anymore? Please tell me.

The timing of the 2nd takes a lot of the shine off the deal. Really could have used it this year. Oh well, hopefully Frattin can get 20 goals and make the deal look great.

First and Frattin * they should of left Scrivens out.

Then we would probably be dealing Amart for another backup. Bernier knocked out every pressing need we had with with this Toronto deal alone.

The key to this deal is that we get the high pick, get the left winger, and get a backup all in one shot. Spares us from having to waste more assets.

That guy can't stop a beachballl in the playoffs.

Um, Scott Laughton, not Michael Leighton, **** that guy. Laughton is a GREAT prospect Philly has right now. Deesham made a nice analysis post about him awhile back. Would've rather gotten him than Frattin.

And if Toronto doesn't want to do that, then what? If the Kings could've gotten a 1st, I'm sure they would've. Should makes it sound like the Kings have all the say in a trade, which they don't.

They should of waited more towards the draft. This is an average deal and doesn't fill a need. He's realistically a 3rd liner, and 15 game goalie, and 2nd round pick. Maybe we could of packaged Martinez or muzzin for a first or even Clifford.

For an "auction for Bernier" we got very basic value. Kind of surprised that we called it in so quickly before the draft.

Frattin is 25 and has yet to play a season where he has not been demoted to the minors, Scrivens is a throw in, and the 2nd could be as late as 2015. I think people are looking through some serious rose colored glasses at this trade

@RenLavoieRDS: In the Bernier trade, there are also reports on money going back to LA from what I've heard. #RDS

Can they trade back our soul? Man.. I'm so upset with this, I thought we could've gotten a much better return.

Is it so wrong that Dean and Hextall know more than we do? He's the guy that knows what kind of player he is or can be. Relax a bit.

If Quick gets injured then we have no back up and then no playoffs. Going in without a back up would be unwise....

Right. Bernier was a luxury that the Kings had, but could no longer have.

Scrivens was part of the deal because the Leafs had to open up a spot for Bernier, and the Kings needed to fill the spot with Bernier gone. Quick's salary goes way up next year, so you can't spend a lot on a backup anyway. Who are you going to get that's better than Scrivens?

Who's the last goalie that got a 1st round pick back in a deal? Varlamov. He was traded in the summer of 2011, for a 2012 1st round pick.

Before that, who's the last goalie to bring back a 1st rounder? I can't think of one.

I agree about the pick. But I think its more likely Frattin scores less in LA, given the system. Either way, I think hes actually a real good fit for Sutters system because hes big, can skate, and play physically. Really hoping he can slide into the 2nd line so we drop Penner.

Regardless, Penner is gone

They do know more, but they can make bad calls too. And this seems like rushed it.

The only reason I see them calling it in so quickly is if they are trying to find out their cap before Holloway UfA day comes.

I think this means we sign Holloway, well hopefully.

Best we can hope for is that Frattin replaces the void Simmonds left. If he can do that I'll be content. I ****ing hope we can get Holloway back and get Dwight King the **** out of here as well. Lombardi's asset management baffles me sometimes, though its mostly solid.

Scrivens is a good backup. He was solid last year. He's also a great locker room guy and you'll love his media interviews. He'll give you basically what Bernier did in terms of the few games he'll play.

I also think you'll like Frattin quite a bit, although his strengths probably stood out more on Toronto than they will in LA. He's a good young player and makes Toronto's forwards noticeably worse. I thought he was one of Toronto's better forwards without a doubt. He certainly fits your style like a glove.

Not from Toronto but in general. Scrivens is a scrub and Frattin had 7 goals last season lol. I'm not sold but I never second guess Lombardi, guess we'll have to see how this one plays out.

In 25 games...

I liked Frattin. One of my favorite Leafs, actually. He's very sturdy on his skates. Good hitter and a nice scoring touch. I think he's a good 2nd/3rd liner for sure. Should be a consistent 20+ goal scorer for you guys. He's a great fit on your team as well. He's often been compared to Dustin Brown.

I'm not too familiar with Bernier. Could a Kings fan be so kind as to provide a recent scouting report on him? Strengths and weaknesses?

Frattin: 7 goals in the first 10 games was very impressive, especially since they were all even strength! Only 4 Kings had more even strength goals last season than that. However, Frattin did not score a single goal, after his injury. That worries me. Why?

Bernier: best technically sound goalie on planet. Poised, agile, good glove, no holes in his game. Few mistakes or bad goals scored on him. Came in relief in 1 game vs Hawks, after Quick gave up for goals and Bernier shut them down the last 30 minutes; no goals scored on him. He looked comfortable and poised in that situation.

1 year from now, there will be more Bernier Leaf jerseys than any Leaf jersey. You will think he's a top 5 goalie in the NHL. You will remember this post.

The only difference between Frattin and Read, is that Read is an upcoming UFA after this season, whereas Frattin is an RFA. Read could've walked after next season and we wouldn't have had anything to show for it. Hopefully this works out for us.

Not entirely sure what the majority of people were expecting here. That's a reasonable deal for Bernier. Scrivens will be a nice stop gap until Jones is ready.
