@RenLavoieRDS: In the Bernier trade, there are also reports on money going back to LA from what I've heard. #RDS

Can they trade back our soul? Man.. I'm so upset with this, I thought we could've gotten a much better return.

Much better than this? Are you smoking crack? Frattin had a really good start to the year..there's potential there. Go look up Scrivens. That dude is underrated and it's a low caphit. Also, a 2nd round pick as a bonus. I'd take that deal over Matt Martin and a first any day of the week.

Frattin is 25 and has yet to play a season where he has not been demoted to the minors, Scrivens is a throw in, and the 2nd could be as late as 2015. I think people are looking through some serious rose colored glasses at this trade

Frattin didn't even finish college until he was 23, so this doesn't bother me all that much. The reason he was sent to the minors was his exemption. Had he not had a knee issue I think he would have had quite a season this year.

It's certainly not a coup by the Kings, but I think it's nice value and like the trade.

If Quick gets injured then we have no back up and then no playoffs. Going in without a back up would be unwise....

You're underrating Scrivens. Sure he probably won't take you to the Cup finals, but he's certainly a capable goaltender with potential. I can see him doing well behind the Kings system.

TOR did take back money (cap hit applied against TOR) in Bernier deal, in the $500,000 range.

They should of waited more towards the draft. This is an average deal and doesn't fill a need. He's realistically a 3rd liner, and 15 game goalie, and 2nd round pick. Maybe we could of packaged Martinez or muzzin for a first or even Clifford.

For an "auction for Bernier" we got very basic value. Kind of surprised that we called it in so quickly before the draft.

If Lombardi thought waiting a week was going to get a better deal, he would've. Maybe the other teams didn't want Martinez, or Muzzin, or Clifford. You keep saying should like the Kings are the only team involved in a trade. If the other team doesn't want anyone but Bernier, you can't force them to take someone else while you ask for even more back in the deal.

The Kings weren't sitting with a great hand at the table. Everyone knew Bernier wanted to start, and wasn't going to with the Kings. He's a RFA, which means he could've signed an offer sheet, or not signed at all with the Kings right through camp, which would've decreased his value that much more.

It's been at least a year since the Bernier trade talk became a huge thing. At this point, Lombardi pretty much knew what was out there.

I like Frattin. Excited to see what he can do in LA.

Think DL has wanted him for along time.

Thanks JB, good luck!

Frattin is a very hot and cold player. He always generates chances but when he is hot everything goes in and when he is cold he can never seem to catch a break. Hes also physical and sturdy.

If you play him with some skill players who can net him some easy goals to get him on a streak can seriously be a 30g+ scorer. He is also a playoff guy, scores clutch goals.

He isnt a good east west player but a very good north south guy so he should play with similar styled players. Not sure how I feel about this trade.

@DarrenDreger: Money back to LA in Bernier deal around $500K.

How does this work? We get 500K in cap space?

BERNIER TRADED!!!

Jonathan Bernier has been traded to Toronto for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens, and a second round pick in 2014 or 2015 (Toronto's option)

Guess I should open my own blog. I can call this stuff ahead of anyone

I think DL has a major woddy for Frattin, which is fine by me. I think the guy has big upside to him, but should be a low cost right now. Frattin, Scrivens and McKegg/Biggs/2nd, or something along those levels.

I hope DL tells us how long he's been chasing Frattin, and why. I mean, it seems clear he's a fit in terms of play style, but I'd like to know if he sees him having a breakout year, or is he content as is.

The 500k thing lessens the sting a bit. There's TONS of pressure now to draft someone good with that 2nd round pick, make it ****ing count boys.

Hey guys! Long time poster at the Leafs board and I just want to say that you guys will absolutely love Matt Frattin as long as he's healthy. The guy has all the tools to become a top 6 forward.

Very happy to have Bernier. I realize his potential!

Seems like a win / win trade. A winger that fits our teams identity, A decent backup and a good pick. The leafs get the best player in the deal most likely but DL is usually great at picking in the 2nd round.

Wonder if Lombardi looks to sign a veteran backup and possibly move Scrivens to EDM for a 2nd rd pick(56th)?

I like everyone saying it's just a second! Remember what we've done in the second. A certain Russian player we just re-signed comes to mind...

Lisa Dillman reporting that talks with Scuderi are progressing...
