First of all, was the NHL trying the new black tennis ball last night instead of a puck? What was up with the ice?
Good for you! I thought I was the only one who noticed how horribly bouncy the pucks were. Is that a statement about the ice conditions or the pucks themselves? Freeze the dang things!

To my eyes, Laine's shot hasn't been what it once was. When he gets open looks, he misses the net half the time. Not sure how you blame PM for that. Good thing he is playing a more physical game.as he would be totally useless otherwise.

His shot hasn't been the same in about 2 years.

I think it was just a matter of him devoting nearly all of his time on the ice, to perfect his shot, which he is no longer doing. So he's bound to be less accurate with it. This used to be a guy who just shot, shot and shot, all day long during training. For some reason, people just seemed to act as if he's magically going to continue having a great shot while no longer working on it as much as other aspects of the game. Sad to say, but playing a more "physical game" has taken away from his pure goal-scoring abilities.

Laine shoots in a "high risk/high reward" manner, trying to pick the far corners, which often results in missing the net for players with an average-to-good shot. Only a great shot can score with such attempts on a regular basis.

Laine still has a very hard shot, though, so he might be better off targeting the center and just trying to get rebounds for other players. Especially in scenarios where you have a bunch of your players around the net. The days of him regularly scoring top shelf at long distances, are probably over though. Better off just trying to hit the net and hoping that something goes through by sheer volume (as Ovechkin tends to do).

I'm not sure I've seen the Jets slower or last to pucks more than I did in the first 30 minutes of last night. Guys actually standing around. They didn't cope with the neutral zone flood the Kings employed. The Kings did a masterful job of neutralizing the Jets speed and the Jets didn't help themselves by not skating.

Morrissey obviously is not healthy. He got turned hard on that goal by Kopitar, so unlike him. Laine with a couple horrid turnovers, one leading to the first goal against. He played much better later on, but his shot does not have the accuracy it once did.

So many fans on shots and passes.

I'm sure this will somehow reinforce how horribad our defense is but when you look at the goals, it's hard to pin many on the D. The whole team looked slow - to skate and to think.

This team might need a new coach - I like Maurice despite his foibles but I think this team needs a new voice at the helm.

There is no excuse for coming out slow and unmotivated. That is an apathetic team. Something needs to light a fire under them BEFORE the first period. We've seen what they are capable of, I can't understand why they can't play an entire game like that. Other teams do.

I don't care if it's a new coach or aroma therapy, something needs to be done.

There were also times that Morrissey did NOT hustle back to retrieve a puck in our zone and it ended badly. That's when I asked in the GDT if he was injured, because he had zero hustle to his game.

That's an epidemic on the Jets. They're also circling back into the d-zone for "regrouping" more now than at the start of the year. Bad habits resurfacing.

Can't hit the net - just like last game - where are our shooters?

Sloppy game and the Kings know how to play a sloppy game - just shoot and hit the net, traffic in front and jump on loose pucks.
With the skill we have, it's frustrating to watch a game like this - missed shots, missed tip in's, not on the rebounds, and
did I mention hit the net?

Don't disagree - but in fairness, they are not aiming for the net. They are aiming for a little target in a top corner. And they are missing that on the outside.

Would Seattle even take Wheeler if we left him exposed? I wouldn't protect him.

Of course you wouldn't protect him, even if he was playing well. No one would. He will be going into his 35 YO season. It would be nuts to protect him. And it would be nuts for Seattle to take him for the same reason. Unfortunately he has a full NMC so we are required to protect him unless he agrees to waive the NMC.

We finally got the lines we wanted and still lost.
Sigh.
I thought we looked really good mid 2nd period on and once we tied it I thought we were winning for sure.
So many guys missed empty nets we should have scored around 6 goals that game. Too many guys to note (they all missed).

What are the chances that these lines stick... sounds like there may already be new lines at practice.

PP1 please score a $%#ing goal!!!

Don't forget, we are missing a ton of offense from the blueline: Byfuglien, Myers, Trouba...

Have to wonder if the message is starting to get stale between coach and players. I get the defense isn't talented but just seems to be a lot of the same issues over and over again. Nothing is really changing on this team and perhaps a new perspective unlocks some things in this team.

Many of the issues are the same as they were last year with a VG D corps.

I really think it is coaching - and I am not really hating on Maurice here. I think that he has simply become stale, past his shelf life. His best before date was May, '18.

Time for a new voice, a new face and a little change.

Last year vs. this year so far - looks like they're sacrificing a lot of offense for marginal defensive gains... Play to your strengths, Paul (I mean the team's strengths...not your personal horniness for shutdown hockey and unproductive zone time).

Results resembles Yeo last year. He's neutering our offense and that is the hallmark of this team.

A few thoughts:
Pionk is looking very good. I think he'll round into a very good number 3 or 4 offensive Dman.
Is Roslovic just the unluckiest player in Jets history or is there something else? He comes so close so often.
We need the old Morrissey back real soon.
Despite his accuracy issues, Ehlers is absolutely indispensable to this team. He’s always creating something.
The team really turned it on when Scheifele and Wheeler were split up. They were all waiting for it to finally happen. Can’t believe it did.

I was surprised it happened.

I was not surprised that they are all back to business as usual today.
