Reading between the lines on what Kenny said this was a Jackson move.
WowSNORTTTTTTT
The oddest thing is that people equate what somebody says vocally with their ability to do a job. A press conference is an extrovert realm, an arena where narcissists/egos perform best in. Just like interview process it means nothing. Some people are just performative. After EAkins/ Woody I figure Oilers fans would be aware of that.Really weird vibes in this press conference but I don’t think much can be derived from it. I remember Nick Nurse having a brutal introductory press conference and then winning the NBA title in his first year. Sirianni’s presser was super uncomfortable as well and the Eagles have been unreal since he was hired
If he’s saying it it’s not off the record. It’s the opposite.Rishaug getting some OTR comments from Holland.
I listened to the presser and Jeff said they had no say. But all I will see here is how he is lying.Regardless of what one thinks about the coaching ability of these guys these are McD nepotism type hires. Is McD's dad gettign a job too?
Edmonton McD's Doesn't sound catchy.
That said I'll look at how the team responds to this but I don't think McD reccomendationss should be honored after Connor Brown fiasco
I'm not convinced Mcd is the best judge of personnel or that he should be given that authority.
I've never seen anything like this in hockey where one player dictates so much of what goes on. I wonder how the team respond to this.
Holland is a lame duck and should have stepped down the moment Jackson was hired.Reading between the lines on what Kenny said this was a Jackson move.
Dallas Eakins could run a very confident presser...The oddest thing is that people equate what somebody says vocally with their ability to do a job. Pressers mean very little and are rarely indicative. Deepest thinkers tend to introversion and don't do as well in public pressers/meetings. Doesnt mean they won't be good at jobs.
I'm not saying Gulutzan should be let go too. Usually a HC gets to pick some, if not all of his staff. It was more of a shot they picked Coffey for him.Gulutzan has not been the problem here. He's the one guy I would keep on. Not sure about Coffey.
Schwartz will be gone. Woody was helping to keep him here by deferring and meeting with him so much. As of today Schwartz probably toast too. Just as a note Coffey when playing had all reaction style goalies, not blockform goalies. What Schwartz advocates would not sit well with Coffey.
Coffey as well could be here just as more of his persona of being the world class D of his time, a legend, and a guy like that, anybody listens to. If theres discord, disagreement Coffey will help settle it hopefully. Coffey might be the ideal to work with superstars and D. Coffey is also extremely intelligent. That rarely hurts.
He'll have all the players reducing their skate sizes by 2. And reading his book first.Coffey actually strikes me as pretty intelligent. Might be a decent coach.
They adapted the d structure at the Heritage Classic game. I don't think last night was some sort of revelatory change but they got stops early, piled some goals in, and defensive play was solid with a pretty ineffective, passive Krack attack until the third period.Last night was already Knoblauch or at least Paul Coffeys intervention. The D play and stressing being front of net more than anybody else was striking change. A type of radical change Woody not noted for.
Nurse played well last night because he knows Woody was one. Trust me he would be looking forward to this coaching change. Nurse worst stint was all in the Woody time frame. he was very good under Tippett and Mclellan.
Holland needs to go back to plugging the hole in the dike.Holland is a lame duck and should have stepped down the moment Jackson was hired.
I think having a historic PP (He runs the PP) might have something to do with itGluetzan has sure been able to dodge bullets himself lol
Knoblauch made mention of the biggest tool coaches have, in response to holding players accountable: ice time. We'll see if that actually applies to leadership or if it's just for rookies and young players still learning, as has historically happened in recent times.
He pays people quite well so he doesn’t have to worry about shit like Oilers +. I guess we will agree to disagree.Oilers+ is the first service of its kind in the NHL. It's also a controversial decision to put once-free content behind a paywall. That's not an automatic function of an organization that just gets done. I very much doubt Katz had zero input into this decision. Was he involved in the execution of the service and setting it up and all that? No. But doubtful he didn't have some say.
This should be the death of Desharnais then. I can't help but think the combo of Knoblauch and Coffey will think "who is this fool" Skillsets wise Desharnais is stoneage with a puck. Broberg gets brought up because the kid can actually play and with some better coaching make improvements. They adapted the d structure at the Heritage Classic game. I don't think last night was some sort of revelatory change but they got stops early, piled some goals in, and defensive play was solid with a pretty ineffective, passive Krack attack until the third period.
Knoblauch in his media conference noted among other things that he prefers zone defending and that his d-men move the puck quickly but importantly prefers that his defensemen stay in their quadrants. This latter element is like Back to the Future as a core principle of Jim Playfair within the Tippett regime.
Another critical element is to get the puck moving up ice faster. Too often this team's d-corp has been increasingly slow moving and slow thinking in its zone exit work.
This is Jeff Jackson's guy.Maybe Knoblauch will be good for the group but I just don't understand why you take a massive risk with a rookie NHL coach now, instead of going with an experienced guy who has been there? Makes no sense to me.
But what was his record when Drai is *only* on maybe a 100pt pace and McDavid is on for less? What's his record when 2 guys are not carrying him? This organization is cooked. This Knobhead or whatever his name is going to be far worse than Woodcroft and people will defend him up for absolutely no reason with bullshit excuses such as “he’s a coach who joined mid-season it takes time for him to implement his system and how he wants to play” and “he didn’t get to choose his assistant coaches, once he does he’ll be better”. I’ve seen this film before
We just let the best coach this team has had in a loooong time go because the management can’t ice a better team. f***ing criminal level injustice for Woodcroft + Manson
He asked the question to which there was an obvious, known answer. Softball.Stauffer asked a good question for once.
He can't really say the opposite though.
Gold. haha. Not everybody will get that one.Holland needs to go back to plugging the hole in the dike.
This might be the biggest factor in what's causing a lot of disjointed play from us. Actually I would say it definitely is, the inability of our defencemen to move the puck out of our zone efficiently, usually due to being too slow. They adapted the d structure at the Heritage Classic game. I don't think last night was some sort of revelatory change but they got stops early, piled some goals in, and defensive play was solid with a pretty ineffective, passive Krack attack until the third period.
