Holland is so out of it he shook Knobby's hand behind the jersey for the photoshoot, which completely defeated the purpose of having the handshake actually visible in said photo.

The start of this season is a f***in shambles....woody had a start to rival eakins era, while having McDavid and Draisaitl....
the coaching staff wasn't just losing in a cup or bust season, but gettng an expansion team level ass kicking. they were out of their realm.
still a bit perplexed how some fans are in shock what occurred.
well fire woody people got their wish and all signs point to a less than up to it coach.

I can’t stand the perpetuation of innuendo, rumor, and assumption by Oiler fans in these scenarios.

Words get parsed, people listen for what they want to hear to justify their pre-conceived conviction of opinion, and then it just goes downhill from there. Drives me crazy.

McDavid isn’t an idiot is he? I get that keeping McDavid is priority #1 but these gimmicks like hiring his former coach and agent and former line mates can’t fool him forever. McDavid knows what a good hockey player looks like and what a good hockey team looks like. And for years the oilers have loaded his team with crap either through draft or free agency. Real results is what will keep McDavid ultimately, all these gimmicks are just desperation.

We don’t know how far the McDavid influence reaches. But I want him to have some input. Not full control but some input. But who knows how the Oilers operate internally, we just got a bomb of a rumor that Coffey has been running shit much more than any of us anticipated.
Are you sure? There are a whole bunch of posters here who make me jealous. They know every piece of insider info here and know exactly what is going on.

The issue isn't firing Woodcroft. It's who they hired to stand on the bench.

I would say we have replaced one OBC with a new one. But that isn't even true. Now we've got Jeff "player agent" Jackson hiring his mediocre best buds while Katz still gets to make sure he's got some :eek::eek::eek: like Paul Coffey still sucking the lifeforce out of this corpse of an organization.

That remains to be seen. Does KK use ice time as punishment/reward and teaching tool to ensure his sensitive players learn to play the right way without shutting down? That alone might have an immense effect. Woody didn't. Who knows, maybe KK isn't allowed to talk to Nurse about his terrible play like all other coaches, but maybe Coffey is.

Some players are no doubt quite unhappy with that turn of event, hopefully no more preferential treatment for the bako alumni.

Hopefully accountability is back on the table, let's go!

My guess. Based on what Gazzola said this morning on these made up positions for Coffee have just been a cover up for him to be a snitch and is actually running the team- he is on the bench to get a sense of the players. By Christmas he will leave the bench and become the GM. Not sure what this does for team morale having “an advisor” to the owner move to the bench.
I would do the same thing. You would not want to know what is going on around the bench? Who gives a sh** and who doesn't? The coach is always going to sugarcoat everything lol. All rainows and lollipops.

This might be the biggest factor in what's causing a lot of disjointed play from us. Actually I would say it definitely is, the inability of our defencemen to move the puck out of our zone efficiently, usually due to being too slow.

However, it has been that way through numerous coaches. This is the NHL, and no coach is asking them to hesitate, and no strategy is being employed anywhere on earth where a defenceman is being asked to move it faster.

I fear the reason this is happening is because most of our D are simply incapable of thinking the sport at a high enough level. We know Bouchard is a great offensive mind, but go back and watch his junior highlights. He has always played in slow motion with the puck, yet makes it work. Ekholm has never been a breakout pass, offensive type. None of our D have. Nurse has always tried skating the puck out or smashing it off the glass. This is an issue with personnel, not coaching.

If they were capable of moving the puck out quicker, they already would be. You notice this with opposition as well, some of their D don't process the sport fast enough to make nice quick passes out of the zone with the timings of forwards. There's a high barrier for entry to be able to do that it seems league-wide, especially as the game gets quicker. Unfortunately it seems like all of our D don't have it in them. Periodically we see a nice one, but not nearly enough. Contrast to seeing Quinn Hughes, just as one example. It really is night and day.
Hell of a first day to join the board. Welcome.

I've long believed this to be a sub-average NHL defense corp. Largely nondescript and personnel isn't good enough. One of my broken records complaint for years. They did however play with much greater tempo (and confidence) post Ekholm deal but regressed to inconsistency that's been a carry over coach after coach after coach.

Hughes has been phenomenal. But critical factors also include the Hronek add, stable big quality veteran depth d-men Cole and Soucey, and Demko super hero goaltending. Surgical off-season and Tocchet has brought strong systems and high accountability.

Also was happy to hear him recognize the fact that we constantly slow the game down when we have the puck at all levels of the team. This has been a major problem for a while now and it will pay instant dividends if it becomes a point of focus.

A lot of the goals that get blamed on defensive error start with someone putting themselves in a dumb position because they held the puck for too long or walked it to a stupid area of the ice.

Quinn Hughes isn't the norm, he is the Canucks elite defender and an offensive type dman. Some skills you can teach, some you can't. Bouchard, Nurse and Ekholm all move the puck pretty well although maybe not at an elite level.

The fact that they’re nickel and diming Oiler fans doesn’t bother you?
Believe it or not, but the goal of a business is to make $$.......Maximize profit and decrease expenses.

Are you going to hand out freebies if you own a McDonalds franchise? Or are you going to try to make large profits?

I am not talking about a moral thing here and what is greedy/right/wrong. That's another discussion.

If Oiler fans do not pay for it, they will probably scrap it.

Supply and demand.

Money talks. Edmontonions love spending it on this franchise.

Hmmm...everybody loves a winner.

The owner has more money than God. I think he will be fine.

Yah Bouchard has an elite shot but that’s about it. Hughes is on a different level.

Eakins sounded like a King when he talked lol. How did that go for ya? Talking about how he doesn't care how much a guy makes, yada yada.

Don't worry about talking. Worry about what you see implemented on the ice surface.

Worry about the D corps and goalies, they're not going to make life easy for another inexperienced coach.
