Confirmed with Link: Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson fired - no more Woody during NNN - Kris Knoblauch hired, Coffey as assistant

Classic Oilers stupidity. Woodcroft isn’t blameless here but he damned sure didn’t teach his forwards to play like a bunch of lazy p***yes, he didn’t give lobotomies to his braindead D corp, and he didn’t give his goalies an epic case of the “yips.” So the players get a free pass again. McDavid gets his childhood coach and Katz gets a HOF buddy on the bench because, well, just because. I thought the Jackson hire would truly end the old boys club. But here we are. f*** this team.
Just bush league bullshit, through and through. Jackson was not brought in because he's some brilliant mind. He was a connection hire, a desperation hire, because they sense the player will bolt, along with his sidekick and they are hoping in vain he will stay if he's surrounded by people he has histories with. They have done a piss poor job constructing the roster and finding players through the draft and through trades, and had to nearly exclusively rely on those two to produce and carry the offensive burden. Complete abdication of professional responsibility by nearly everyone in that front office, GM to scouting.

Instead of running an organization professionally they are left trying to get their top stars to solicit and recruit players, appease them when things continually circle the drain each season, all because of willful negligence and refusal to do their f***ing jobs properly. How do people like this continually get chances to run the show? Apparently because they are great ass kissers, whether it's Katz's or McDavid's.

Wish I could bring some of your posts up when he got hired and had some initial success.:D

Anyhow, another good man lost his job today because of an inept GM and a delusional owner.
I think most of the board grew to like Woody after he turned the team around. That’s just human nature.

I’ve criticized him plenty since then.

My initial posts about the Woody hiring were that I thought a vet coach would’ve been better but I was willing to see what would happen. That’s actually my opinion on this hiring as well.

Yeah, there were a lot of posters overly praising Woodcroft & system for the turnaround while there were a few of us saying it was on the players & getting some NHL quality goaltending.

It's pretty obvious now.

I mean ultimately, if McDavid says hire my dad as coach or I'm leaving, you hire his dad. As much as you can whine about nepotism, the number one priority for the organization should be extending McDavid. They will very likely never have a player as good as McDavid again.

Can you tell us what you don't like about the new hire? What don't you like about his systems, etc?
For me, it's more about the optics. I think Katz believes he's playing the "long game" here at this point. McDavids contract will be expiring in due time, so bring in whoever he used to have connections with to make him feel real comfortable and recommends and hopefully he signs here long term. Conner Brown, his old junior buddy coming in and then doing nothing. His former agent Jeff Jackson coming in as president. And now his former junior coach being hired. Who's next, his dad as the GM? (Although the way Holland has managed this team, it's hard to imagine McDavids dad doing any worse;))

How about finding a starting goalie? Or building a defence?

What exactly is Knoblaugh supposed to do with that?

I wonder if the logic for adding Coffey to the bench is as simple as Coffey made a speech before the heritage classic, we ended up winning, and they think he inspired them that much? Wouldn’t shock me
Or maybe.. Just maybee...The fact he played D?

Hmmm seems like McDavid may have had a hand in this… well hopefully it works out. Can’t really say much of anything at this point besides it’s kind of fishy

This is NOT a Jared Bednar/Jon Cooper type of hire:

“[Knob] as an AHL head coach, his teams have gone 119-122, missed the playoffs twice in three tries and won only a single playoff round.“

This is the guy I was hoping for when Tippet was first hired. We will see on Coffey but I’m ok on the Knoblauch hire

How do so many people not know who this guy is?......I knew about him before we drafted McDavid.

I always said Woody coaching record benefitted from the heat up stage that McDrai always have Fe, Mar, APR. This distorted what his record is because these are always the ttimes that McDrai are best. therefore the team doing better. Woody's record in first half of seasons is a lot different.
