Jack Edwards being Jack Edwards

I’ve been saying for years Brickley is worse he’s just low key about it. Edwards will give credit and get excited over nice plays from other teams and Brickley always there to buzzkill or take away credit and act like it was more the Bruins being bad than the other team doing well.

next he's gonna tell the story about that time she got stuck in the washing machine

Then he'll just sit there... maniacally laughing into the mic... Brick with a stunned look on his face and someone has to come over and slap him in the face back to reality or throw a glass of water on him or something.

I didn't say he was sane. He was acting sane in the no goal call more than Brickley was.

Plus that play I thought Krejci embellished from what I saw. Still SCRREAM about the refs who saw he embellished!

I'm a Pens fan so I don't have ties to either team...hate ya both

If a local commentator, who is employed by the team doesn't show bias they're not doing their job. Their job is to sell the product (the team they're calling the game for), not to call the game down the middle with no bias. If you don't like a commentator, switch to another one, there's a least four for every game (home/away and tv/radio) and likely more beyond that.

Edit to add: Edwards hasn't done a "national" broadcast in over ten years, since he became the play-by-play man for the Bruins in 2007. NHL network/center ice showing the NESN feed does not count.

Yeah ok, if your want your team to hire a homer to inflate your teams tires, wax their cars, and tell them they are indeed gods, sure w/e, have at'er.

BUT, when you're accepting applications for homers, please, oh pretty please, have them be able to pass a basic history course if they are going to start equating their teams successes to historic moments.

TLDR: The Quebecois (This includes Montreal if you didn't know) hated the British monarchy more than those rowdy rebels Jackie here speaks of.

I wish each and every team could have their biggest homers call their games... I admire Jack Edwards.... This whole thing is supposed to be fun.

Razor is nowhere near Edward's level of terrible and even his homer tendencies really ruin the broadcast

Jack has always been annoying to me, and now he’s losing some awareness, on top of the normal unhinged crazed commentary.

He’ll be replaced soon. Although, the next guy will be just as big of a ball washer.

It feels like all Bostonian teams, regardless of sport, are full to the rim with homers and larger than life drama queens, both on the team and those in support roles.

It's quite impressive.

Go ahead and elaborate on this impressive point. Please enlighten us and give us some examples proving that Boston teams are so much more full of homers and drama queens than your teams are.

Find another broadcaster that:
-wishes actual harm on opposing team players
-wants to see opposition players go to the hospital
- compares a player to a terrorist while talking about someone else's lack of judgement
-compares a hockey game to the revolutionary war
-go on a nationalist rant that had no place no TV let alone after a hockey game

If you bothered to read his original post you will see clearly that he said " all Bostonian teams were filled with homers and drama queens " so who else is there ????

''Do you wanna see the afterlife? I'll take you there''

- Jack Edwards 2020

I know he gets a lot of hate, but I actually love Jack Edwards. Definitely the most entertaining colour commentator in the league.

More then anything he is a fan of the sport and loves the game.

People say he is a homer but I don't think that's true. He will mercilessly rip on the Bruins if he feels its warranted.

He isn't intelligent at all, just extremely entertaining. I love biased commentators.

It depends on the stage. He would be pretty good at calling wwe matches.

It's just super cringy on the nhl stage, or any pro sport stage for that matter.

Commentators work for the NHL?

I thought they were hired by broadcasting companies, in this case specifically regional broadcasts.

So these guys communicating with regional fans. Fans of a specific team, but people feel they shouldn’t be biased? Lol. They’re not officials. They’re not league brass.

I think many people are confused on what the role of commentators are, who employs them, and who they answer to.

People say it's just entertainment, but for a lot of Americans pop-culture and entertainment is their ONLY source of historical information. Entertainers should have some responsibility to be historically accurate, but they clearly don't.

So yeah, I heard the Redcoats were some hockey team out of Canada.

To an extent yes, but there’s also popular media peoples who play the other side fighting the homers. The Mike Felgers of the world. But yeah I’d agree, mostly ball washing.

I enjoy Jack Edwards, he's one of the best team play by play guys around. Yes, he's a huge homer, but that's his job as he's playing to his audience. It's hilarious when he talks tough, especially when it involves the former chief bear, Chara. When Jack does his thing, it's amusing to think of the people watching that get all upset about what Jack says. He is quite the troll, and very good at it. I wish my team had Jack Edwards doing play by play. Although we've been lucky enough to have Gord Miller do about half our games this year, obviously I'd take Gord over Jack.

Lol, how the hell did I miss this thread when it was first made?

"Take your Harvard degree to the hospital!"

(cut to Killorn, upright, delivering shots to the side of Kuraly who is face down on the ice)

"Chara says "You want to see the afterlife? I'll take you there!'"

(Pat Maroon proceeds to take down Chara for the second time in 30 seconds)

:laugh::laugh: It sounds like he was waiting to drop these lines all game, and then as soon as he said them both B's players lost the upper hand. FWIW, I appreciate the guy like I appreciate a clown: he's there to be laughed at.

Brickley is fine, though, and as a pair they are capable of turning the homer filter off pretty regularly.
