Jack Edwards being Jack Edwards

It was also an incredibly moronic play by the defender and easily could have injured Marchand.... no reason to do that. Edwards should have waited for a replay before rambling however.
Not really. It was a hockey play that happens 200 times a season.

The biggest issue with such an extreme homer in Edwards is that it breeds and reinforces a systemic lack of understanding of the game (not saying you).

I think he should be fired for it. He's wilfully teaching young people inaccuracies. It's bad for the game

Huh, Heiskanen has every right to try and make that play lol. What do you want him to do, escort Marchant to the empty netter ?

Almost every announcer is a homer, but Edwards has always been ridiculous and at times I think he's being satirical. He's a joy to listen to IMO, but that's because I only do it maybe 5 times per year. I could understand his "act" growing old though.

Person A says some dumb shit,

Person B is offended,

So it's person B's fault?

Great logic.

well if you let dumb shit offend you then it’s absolutely your own fault lol, being offended is a choice. And let’s not act like Edwards is out here pulling a Gruden, he just being a homer which makes it even more hilarious how mad people get over him.

I don't know, maybe let go of Marchand's leg once he no loner has the puck instead of trying to tackle a guy by the ankle and ruin the rest of his season? That option also seems kind of reasonable to me. Whomever says that they see a guy get dragged 15-20 feet while holding onto somebody's leg 200 times per season is clearly lying.

Have you ever slid on ice while trying to avoid a goalpost AND a player at the same time? I'll back up, have you ever slid on ice while NOT on skates? He's on his ass on ice (ice is very slippery in case you didn't know), he can't just stop using his cheeks . It doesn't look like he's tackling him, he's moving his legs so they and the rest of his body don't slam directly in to the goalpost. If it was dirty, I'd bet Marchand and/or the Bruins would've let him know because the game was over at that point.

I just saw that clip with him saying "you can take your Harvard degree, and take it to the hospital!" Lol
He’s got some great one-liners but on top of creating false narratives he’s also starting to lose his fastball. Calling players by the wrong name, fumbling over his words, going on senseless rants etc etc. His time is near.

Fixed it for ya!

Yup. There are tons of broadcasters in every sport who are homers and are obviously cheering for their team over the other team. But they're generally still professionals who are doing their best to communicate what's happening on the ice/field to viewers and listeners accurately.

I've never come across a pbp guy in any sport quite like Edwards. The guy is just inventing his own reality about what's happening on the ice. It's absolutely insane. And I guess some people love the WWE schtick, but to me it's absolutely unwatchable and embarrassing to the sport.

You never listened to Johnny Most. Clearly. That's who Edwards patterns himself after.

"Bruins announcer Jack Edwards stands by controversial call of Roman Polak injury"

Wow, what a nice stand-up guy. Such a real beauty.

As he should, because it really was hockey karma live and in living color. Too bad you didn't watch the game and catch what happened.

Jack is always clear - He is announcing Boston Bruins hockey to a New England-based audience.

Almost every Bruins game has been televised since the 1967-68 season and for decades the announcer was Fred Cusick who also did games on the radio going back to the '50s. 20 years ago Alex Trebek told the Boston Globe listening to Cusick calling games when he was young growing up in Sudbury, ON made him want to be a broadcaster,

Everybody knows the Dan Kelly call on CBS of the Bobby Orr goal but few have heard Cusick's call on WBZ Radio.

The only time Fred really showed homerism is when the Bruins finally beat the Habs in a playoff series after 44 years.

Fred knew the game as he played college hockey and he saw this moment coming

When the HHoF first honored broadcasters Fred was the only US announcer in the inaugural class.

Bruins fans in our GDT's sometimes cringe when Jack goes on a rant

Nothing tops this one

This is a close second

But he can turn on the Bruins as well

Jack is a homer - but is he any worse than Pat Foley in Chicago or RJ in Buffalo?

Most Bruins fans want to see long-time B's radio announcer Dave Goucher come home after Jack's contract is up after this season. Goucher only took the Vegas job knowing Edwards was locked in at NESN but he misses New England.
