Jack Edwards is basically an entertaining idiot of a character. His schtick doesn't bother me as much as some of the fans who take it seriously and actually buy into stuff like this. Most of the Bruins fans I've known throughout my life share this same opinion.

I’m just going to leave this here. Besides meeting Bobby Orr when I was a kid, I have never met a nicer person involved with sports than Jack Edwards. He’s nice to everyone and really wants to talk to people and will take criticism and readily admit if he’s wrong about something. I could name people who I’ve met who seemed like real jerks but Jack isn’t one of them. That doesn’t mean he’s the best announcer because he’s not but he’s also very far from the worst. He just annoys people including more than a few Bruins fans.

I'd recommend you tune into some away broadcasts, there is a difference between being a homer and being Jack Edwards.. no one else says the amount of stupid shit that Edwards does.

Edwards isn't an announcer, he's a professional gaslighter.

Which mostly just makes him a terrible announcer, but some of the things he's said about guys who are injured or wishing players to get injured is over the line.

Homerism isn't binary. There are more moderate and more extreme versions of it.

I don't know the person behind the supposed persona, but I've been saying for years that Edwards perfect job would be as a commentator in professional wrestling.

His style doesn't work for me in the hockey realm, and it's not that it makes me angry.... But it definitely makes me cringe.

I highly doubt he was being obnoxious on a national game, given the bruins weren't involved.

Yup. There are tons of broadcasters in every sport who are homers and are obviously cheering for their team over the other team. But they're generally still professionals who are doing their best to communicate what's happening on the ice/field to viewers and listeners accurately.

I've never come across a pbp guy in any sport quite like Edwards. The guy is just inventing his own reality about what's happening on the ice. It's absolutely insane. And I guess some people love the WWE schtick, but to me it's absolutely unwatchable and embarrassing to the sport.

The fact you take anything he says seriously clues us all in on how short you’ve been a hockey fan. It is quite funny to see so many fan bases get so roiled over a pbp guy from the bruins. Perhaps your sophisticated sense of hockey can help you to not listen to the bruins home broadcast in the future if this offends you so much.

On the occasion that he does a neutral game, you can see that he is elite. NESN wants a super homer. Thats what his job is. Dale Arnold who had the job before Edwards was such a homer you couldnt hear him say when the opponents scored.
