Confirmed with Link: Ivan Provorov traded to CBJ (via LA) - 1st, 2 2nds, Petersen, Walker, Grans to Philly

Sure, but for every team who is smart enough to know that, there is another team who isn't smart enough to know that.

I'm very happy with the trade, but part of my feels like there had to have been a sucker GM out there who would have traded us even more.

Same logic applies with Hart.

I'm really curious to see what Hart return looks like. Really hard to predict. I would hope and expect he returns more than Alex Nedeljkovic (Bernier + 3rd), but does he return as much as Darcy Kuemper (Timmins + late 1st)?

It's possible that a lot of teams are smart enough to know he's really not a top pair caliber defensemen. I think this return should be graded on Provorov's actual on-ice performance. When you look at that, and how he has actually been one of their worst defensemen the past few seasons, it's hard for me to think 22nd overall, a 2nd in 2024 and a 2nd in 2025 (i'm assuming) isn't more than OK.
To some degree maybe, but we also live in a world where Risto returns 13th overall + and Ben Chiarot returns a 1st+ as expiring contracts...and bad players.

Also the better of the 2nd round picks is for taking on Peterson's 2x5 contract.

What's wild is, LA's fans seem to be the most upset of all 3 fan bases.

I think Philly came out the best with LA #2 and CBJ just botching it (though I can see him doing just fine in CBJ)
No fanbase enjoys trading a 2nd round pick and a former 2nd round pick for no tangible return, but this makes them better next year.

LA did an awful lot to only save like $3M in cap space.

Well we all know we can't use Fletcher trades to gauge actual league-wide value lol

Scott Wheeler on Grans:

6. Helge Grans, RHD, 20 (Ontario Reign)

There are three prospects ranked below Grans on this list who’ve been NHL regulars or close at some point in their young careers already, and yet I still think Grans belongs here on the upside of what he’s capable of becoming if he puts it all together.

The appeal of Grans, in the past, has been anchored in the legitimacy of his individual tools more than the sum of his parts. He’s a 6-foot-3, right-shot defenceman who is both mobile and talented. He’s comfortable with the puck. He has great hands for his size. He’s a superb passer on outlets and through offensive-zone lanes. And he’s at his best when he’s playing an aggressive style and taking risks to make things happen.

There’s still some rawness to his even-strength play and he can look a little stilted on his pivots, but his game has started to take form defensively as well. He has driven results with the Reign this year, and despite having played parts of five seasons at two top pro levels, he’s just still just 20. Grans has the potential to be a second-pairing defenseman with two-way value. There’s a balance to be struck with his mistakes and some of that just comes with continued reps. I hope they encourage him to play a highly-involved game, because that’s when his tools really shine. I’d rather see him looking to make things happen than playing passively.

Solid trade, it isn’t the heist that some of the front office fanboys are claiming but it also isn’t a total ass reaming of losing value like chuck Fletcher’s trades. Overall a solid B on this deal. Would have preferred a 2nd this year for the amount of cap dumps we take on but at least we are finally accumulating 2nd round picks in the future as opposed to pissing them away. Sadly I think this means Hart is as good as gone.

I have them as saving $5,625,000 for the 23-24 season.

Edit: FlyGuy beat me to it
They had a big problem with how Petersen's contract was structured and couldn't buy him out. Flyers, or anyone, could buy him out next year nicely though.

Nice trade. Good start to Briere’s tenure.

Not a fleecing. I mean, we’re talking about the 22nd overall pick, two 2nds, & Helge Grans. And the Flyers had to absorb Peterson’s brutal contract (don’t get me wrong, I support getting assets for taking a couple short-term bad contracts).

Anyway, it was time to move on from Provorov, & he hasn’t played himself into a better return than this.

I’m happy with it.
