Confirmed with Link: Ivan Provorov traded to CBJ (via LA) - 1st, 2 2nds, Petersen, Walker, Grans to Philly

It's a really good trade for the Flyers, b/c they end up coming out about even on the cap hit, leaving flexibility for other deals.
They don't retain, so they keep their 3 options, Hayes may eat one for three years, Walker might eat one at the TDL for this year.
#22 in a deep draft, 2024 (2), 2025 (2) fills out their future drafts.

Wheeler had LA at 7th overall, and Grans as their #6 prospect:

"There are three prospects ranked below Grans on this list who’ve been NHL regulars or close at some point in their young careers already, and yet I still think Grans belongs here on the upside of what he’s capable of becoming if he puts it all together.

The appeal of Grans, in the past, has been anchored in the legitimacy of his individual tools more than the sum of his parts. He’s a 6-foot-3, right-shot defenceman who is both mobile and talented. He’s comfortable with the puck. He has great hands for his size. He’s a superb passer on outlets and through offensive-zone lanes. And he’s at his best when he’s playing an aggressive style and taking risks to make things happen.

There’s still some rawness to his even-strength play and he can look a little stilted on his pivots, but his game has started to take form defensively as well. He has driven results with the Reign this year, and despite having played parts of five seasons at two top pro levels, he’s just still just 20. Grans has the potential to be a second-pairing defenseman with two-way value. There’s a balance to be struck with his mistakes and some of that just comes with continued reps. I hope they encourage him to play a highly-involved game, because that’s when his tools really shine. I’d rather see him looking to make things happen than playing passively."

Grans will only be 21 next year, with 69 SHL games and 115 AHL games under his belt.
Raw but with upside that makes sense for a rebuild.
So he'll compete for a spot in camp, and at worst, pair with Andrae in LHV next year.
He also makes it less likely they'll reach for a RHD in the 1st rd.

I mean, trade is pretty decent.

Kind of a slap in the face that this is what we got for Provorov and taking on cap dumps, when they traded more for Fisto alone, but I'll take it as the right logic behind a trade for once. Could have definitely gotten more, but I'm not upset by it.

Wild to think that Columbus can wait until after the first round of the 2024 draft is over to see if they want to defer the pick to 2025, don't recall ever seeing that condition before. They can basically see if the 2nd round of that draft has a bunch of targets they want before deciding if they want to ship it, which puts them at a huge advantage for trading it. Flyers could be in a position where they don't know if they have that 2024 draft pick less than 24 hours before they have to make it.

Nice to have 4 1sts the next 2 years. Hopefully one or two more incoming. If the Flyers are going to get back to relevancy, there is a good chance it will be on the backs of these 2 drafts. Next year should be a high pick as well

So it seems like most are ok/fine with the deal , but if the 2nd was CBus 2nd this year, we a would all be quite happy.

Hey, better than being wildly disappointed like almost all the Fletch deals
It is kind of a .... are we used to Fletch or is this good kinda vibe. Seems to be the latter so I’ll take it

I was told Jones would basically have no input on hockey decisions?!

Concerning.

The FLA 1st next year could get pushed to 2025

Is Walker just a dump? I thought I read some people say that he was decent on here

It's unfathomable that a person could spend as much time as you do on a Flyers hockey forum and not know that Provorov was on his way out.
Then add me to that list. After the last few years of "Watch the BIG moves we're going to make!!!", I was pretty pessimistic that anything big would happen in the near future.

Wait until the Leafs make a trade.
"Austin Matthew has been traded. There were no survivors."

Doesn't Briere know if you are acquiring rhd d-man you need to trade your 2's and not add 2's?

Its only one trade. But maybe just maybe the flyers have a gm to think past next month and year.

Maybe the flyer's luck will change. Maybe, Walker stays healthy and Flyers get a 3 and a 6 at the deadline by a desperate gm. Maybe Grans turns into a 4/5.

And maybe an ex flyer can succeed at being a gm.

I was given a signed Provorov mini-helmet in the summer of 2018 as a gift.

Do I need to call the county to dispose of it or is regular garbage OK?

It was actually one of three items, along with a signed Carter Hart mini-helmet and a signed Nolan Patrick puck. What kind of insane bad luck is that? At the time it was a great gift (our future 1C, 1D, and 1G!) but everything went rapidly downhill after that. Maybe this is all my fault…

Well, I'm not thrilled to trade Provorov, but it's definitely a move I understand if we are actually rebuilding. Definitely a step in the right direction.

Kevin Hayes next, please

Agreed. Good first deal by Briere. Already a better GM than Chuckles. Mac Celebrini come on down, the Tank is ON!

Other GMs will be calling about the Flyer Fire Sale now too. Next deals will be telling and should yield some more good picks. Hayes, Hart, Konecny, who’s next?
