Confirmed with Link: Ivan Provorov traded to CBJ (via LA) - 1st, 2 2nds, Petersen, Walker, Grans to Philly

Still a great deal, but slightly dissapointed that neither 2nd round pick are in 2023. Either way though, this is going to be a long rebuild so the 2024 2nds are nice to have as well.

It's a great return by Briere. There's absolutely no denying that. Walker can probably return a mid-round pick (4-6) at the deadline as well.

Petersen is a perfect veteran to take a beating over the next few years too. Feel sorry for him in advance lol

Hard to not give this deal at least an A-

This is just such a sick trade. I especially love too that Briere gets to cut Connauton and Hodgson out too, getting rid of some absolute garbage contract fodder that Fletcher had been accumulating. Good stuff.
More than that, he opens up two contract slots to balance the two bad contracts he took on.
He can retain on Walker and maybe move him for a later round pick to a team looking for depth.
So they now have (2) 1sts in this draft, (3) 2nds in next year's draft or (2)/(2) in 2024/2025 to go with (2) 1st rd picks next year.

While they picked up $7M in salary, they dumped $6M, so no real hit with JVR gone.

Maybe the official details will make me feel better but I'm not sure they got enough from taking the Peterson contract. Kassian was 2x3.2 and got a first round pick swap and a future 2nd and 3rd. Is pick 54 for Peterson's contract (if the pick is actually this year) worth it if you don't think much of Grans?

The Walker and Provorov cap retention wash I think, but the Flyers pick up a contract.
Fair.

I was starting from the position where I only heard Walker and Petersen, with no sweeteners.

I hope they're just carrying Walker to flip for another asset or two at the deadline. I know nothing about Grans, but a big bodied right handed 2nd round pick defensemen is hockey guy crack, so I'm not surprised they grabbed him, too. I'm not too worried about the number of contracts at the moment. Briere and company have time to figure things out there.

Three picks, plus (hopefully) another pick or two for Walker down the road, is fine by me for Provorov. Petersen stinks and I'm not sure what value I would have placed on taking that contract on for two years; I'll just bury my head in the sand for that part of the trade....

Apparently the only 2023 pick is the LA Kings 1st (#22 overall)

The 2nd rounders are Kings 2024 and CBJ conditional 2nd in 2024 or 2025. Not sure how reliable, but saw something indicating that CBJ would decide whether they want to convey their 2024 2nd by the 2024 draft or retain it and then it would be the 2025 2nd.

Conditions on pick are correct

Strong start to Briere's tenure. He got what he needed to get.

Short of getting a lottery pick, multiple late 1sts, or a blue chip prospect, this was the best realistic package for Provorov. Well done.

Man that seems like a lot for the Jackets to give up for Provy.

Jarmo is on hot seat

If Jackets aren't playoff team this coming year he is out on his ass so he isn't concerned about trading picks at this point

He wanted a top 4 LD and he got him at fairly decent price cap wise with LA retaining. A late 1st + 2nd isn't bad value for what he got
