Confirmed with Link: Ivan Provorov traded to CBJ (via LA) - 1st, 2 2nds, Petersen, Walker, Grans to Philly

Pretty good piece of business for LA though. They clear $5.6M in cap this year for 2024 second rounder & Grans. Even next year they’ll still save over $2M.

They probably took advantage of the Flyers situation given they likely didn’t want to use contract retention spots on both Hayes & Provorov for these next two years.

Rob Blake is sort of quietly doing a fine job there.

Welp, always a rough day when the player you have eight game worn jerseys of gets traded.

Swing and a miss there.

At least i'm not a Ghost fan like @Striiker

I'd be quite alright trading Hart for a 2nd this year and a lightly protected 1st next year from a bubble team that's smelling its own flatulence. This draft sort of worries me if they put all their eggs in that basket. I don't want to be like Columbus 2 years ago and come away with 3 1sts that includes Cole Sillinger and Corson Ceulemans. It's the same crew running the Flyers draft, with the same worrisome processes and beliefs, and I simply don't know if Briere is good at evaluating prospects. He can prove me wrong. I also won't even begin to speculate if Tortorella and Jones have amateur input.

I stand by my words. He’d thrive in a sound system just like Orlov

The thing is, Orlov was almost always good to great in Washington. Provorov’s previous NHL value hangs on two things. Two half seasons where he wasn’t the best player on his own Pair and an all-time weird season where he turned into prime Shea Weber from the point. The latter remains one of the most absurd aberrations I’ve seen in a Flyers uniform. The former may happen again, but your expectations are so far beyond the scope of reasonability that there’s nothing to latch onto for a discussion.

Now you can tell me he’ll play better when he’s not being hilariously overused and fair enough, but you’re comping him to one of the very best Skaters on the planet in McAvoy and saying developmental environment is the difference. I have wasted several hundred thousand words on just this forum expressing the shortcomings of the Flyers org as a developmental entity and even I think that notion is so insane that it should be openly mocked.

The guy that can score goals like this can’t be mocked - he got the skating, he got the stickhandling, he got the shot.

He needs to get back his confidence and change of scenery might just do it

Having to watch Provy be forcefed offensive minutes and pp time over some of our other guys, namely Sanheim, has been one of the lowlights for me personally as a flyer fan in the past several years. Happy to move on from him and that stupid f***in stick. I'll take the assets and commitment to taking cap dumps for value. Hopefully this is just the start. Knowing the organization it would just be a reset to ruin it again but atleast itd be that. Pretty excited to see this type of move right now.

Yeah, look.

This org has bent over backward to kowtow to his whims from day one. He had to earn nothing. Everyone else had to flip sides of the ice because he didn’t want to do it. They kept him on PP1 for multiple years despite the org knowing it was a disaster because they didn’t think he could handle the demotion.

And on the other side of the discussion, here’s a highlight clip of one Goal and a total misunderstanding of both Provorov as a player and what he has and hasn’t done so far. It’s a career defined by self-sabotage and doing so many of the little things that often lead to NHL success while aimlessly flailing in most of the major categories. Then compounding this by falling apart in regard to the little things he previously did well.

But yes, he scored that Goal that one time. I wish I could laugh at the idea of anyone finding that instructive, but I still have Jody Shelley/Paul Holmgren PTSD.

I mean the guy did tell you that was a weak draft. Give the man his credit.

He scored one like this just a few months ago too. The thing you'll notice is that he can pull these moves off 3v3 when he has ice to work with and can build up speed and take advantage of forwards trying to play defense, but he doesn't have the small area skill to make it work 5v4 (he was the least productive PP player in the league over a 3 year stretch), much less 5v5. This isn't a new development though. He's had these issues going back to Brandon and no one wanted to acknowledge it.

Nah, that was an Islanders fan. I only remember this one because Beef kept yelling his name.
Fun fact: I spelled it “beastiality” at first and since autocorrect said it was spelled wrong and I didn’t know why - because why the hell would I - I reflexively googled it to double check the spelling.

I’m actually that stupid.
