Confirmed with Link: Ivan Provorov traded to CBJ (via LA) - 1st, 2 2nds, Petersen, Walker, Grans to Philly

Pretty good trade for us...also I think the Blue Jackets did well getting Provs....he likely will bounce back there I reckon....but I don't really see what LA gets out of this save for getting rid of some salary....I think they look the worse out of this deal....

They really need the cap space and they dumped it for pretty little overall.

They come out as the immediate short-term winners for me

In case anyone thought I was kidding…

(Also turns out it was 2019, not 2018, but whatever)

For like a split second I was like "Wait, how'd he wear a mini-helmet"? :D Oh... the signature is what's authenticated

I guess Columbus couldn’t get Gavrikov to re-sign. Trading for a defender with two years remaining suggests that they expect big things from the ‘cock.

I think Briere did very well in this trade. It's impossible to tell how the 1st and 2nd round picks will turn out, but for now at least it's nice to see *something* being done to move this team in a clear direction.

As for Provorov, I had a lot of hope for him to become a Norris-caliber defenseman, but that just didn't materialize, unfortunately. Factor in that he wasn't popular with some of his teammates and his disappointing decision regarding the pride jersey situation, and I think it was the right call to move him. Word is that Babcock was high on Provorov during his draft year, so perhaps he'll be able to get Provy back on the right path in Columbus.

Now let's see if Briere can manage to get something of value for Hayes with retention and perhaps bring in some nice pieces in a Hart trade. Would be tough to move Carter but we don't need a goalie stealing wins for us during a rebuild and it appears Ersson could be a gem.

I don’t know if I consider them flat out winners more then everyone got pretty equal value. Maybe slight winners. LA did need to sign a few guys but they gave up a (once) promising prospect (you read articles on Grans from a year ago and he’s a top prospect and pushing for a roster spot) and a 2nd round pick for some breathing room. In the end LA got themselves in that spot and needed to give up draft capital to give some space.

I am curious how Grans plays out. If he gets to the next level he will be a bottom 4 but man when you read articles from June 2022 on his season and even comments on hf people loved him. What a turn a year makes.

Two questions...is Ersson that good that we can afford to give up Hart and what has turned Hart into trade bait exactly other than needing to tank in the next couple of seasons at the minimum?

As far as Prideorov..pretty sucky how he went from the Flyers "coveting" him in the draft to getting banished to Ohio....

They thought both Ersson and Fedotov were guys with #1 potential and they like Kolosov too. They are deep at the position in the organization.

Pretty good deal... not an "out of the park homerun" but good value for a guy who has played at #4 level overall for the last 3 seasons... and only has 2 of the 7 seasons in his career where he has been properly top pairing level.

The 1st rounder... 22nd overall in this draft is worth more than it normally would be for me, going to get a good player there.
2x 2nds... yeh, pretty nice.
Grans... had a down year but before that was on track to being a ~#4 NHL Dman, and is a righty with a very interesting skill-set.
Walker... solid depth Dman, a good #5 really.
Peterson, yeh, cap dump who is not that good, but whatever. Crazy he got that deal based off one season really.

I like the creativity as well to maximise value from the deal.

Moving 2 AHL level players as well who are doing nothing sans blocking youth and using contract spaces is also a plus.

I think the amateur scouting group under Flahr is underrated around here, starting in 2017 or so, they've found real value later in the draft (a lot of teams go almost a decade without finding a NHL starter after the 2nd rd). That makes extra picks more valuable to the Flyers, b/c you're not just finding players, you're building organizational depth that allows you to sweeten trades.

2017: Cates #137, Lycksell #168, Zamula
2018: Ersson #143
2019: Attard #72
2020: Desnoyers #135
2021: Kolosov #78, Zanetti #110, Samson #174, Avon
2022: Kaplan #69, Gendron #220

not all will make it, but all have outplayed their draft position, some by wide margins.
This suggests to me that scouting is not the problem, at least the last half dozen years.

@Appleyard, is Gendron for real? That was some impressive D+1 performance. 69 goals in 76 games (including 14 in 13 PO games) raises eyebrows.

Flyers are starting to accumulate picks:
2023: (2) 1sts, (2) 3rds, (2) 4ths, (2) 6ths [missing a 2nd]
2024: (2) 1sts, (2) 2nds [including one for JOB]
2025: (2) 2nds (assuming CBJ pushes the pick out)
and Briere has just started to wheel and deal.

It can't be emphasized enough that Fletcher battered us so badly with his tenure that "pretty good" feels monumental.

I remember when Holmgren first came in on the job and did really well....basically the plan that the Briere Bunch are implementing now and with this first move. Then Holmgren started his firesale of assets and went off the youth and development plan with Pronger. Swung for the fences and got a triple. Then when Pronger got his eye stabbed by that cheapshot artist it was all downhill from there. Hopefully, this consensus committee stays on course but typically it does not unless Briere is an outlier.

They're not underrated. They lazily punted on a good draft for no valid reason and burned all the picks on Risto.

Helge Grans looks fairly interesting, if he can play D at all he has a chance. He can skate, pass and shoot.

There are some interesting clips on YouTube.

All his goals 2021-22: Some pretty nice plays here and shots.

His end of season '23 interview: and '22:
