Really surprised to see Semien go to Texas - at least it's not the Yankees. I'm fine with Biggio at 2B though, with Espinal and Smith behind him.

The Mets payroll is already at $200mil - I believe second highest to only the Dodgers now. I don't know how big they can go with Gausman...especially if they can just bring back Stroman.

What starting pitchers are in the 2nd tier of free agents? Would a guy like Alex Wood or Kikuchi be good value to sign before the contract renews?

Alex Wood re-signed with SF.
Kikuchi is a possibility. Cobb or Bundy as well.

Apparently Jays had interest in Kikuchi when he came over originally. But, what we know of this front office, they show some level of interest in almost everyone, ha.

Jon Gray also in that mix. I'd say Rodon too, but not sure they want to take the gamble on his health. If they land Ray or Gausman, might be more doable as they have a pretty solid top 4 before him.

I somehow keep forgetting about Rodon... if he really is just going to get a one-year deal, I would love for the Jays to be the team to sign him. Honestly, even at big money, he would probably be my #1 target. Get what you can out of him for a year and if he's good/healthy you QO him and move on, especially if you see some development from Pearson this year.

If Rodon signs for 1 year he's my #1 target.

Him, Ray, Gausman, and Gray are my remaining starters wishlist at this point. 2 will be tough, doable if Gray is involved or Rodon is longer term, less AAV. Otherwise it's really expensive. Scherzer too. But I'm not sure that's all that likely.

I'm more than ok going the trade route after that and even going into the season with a competition for the 5th spot between Stripling, Pearson, Hatch, Logue, and Francis if we get a high end option at 3rd as well as 1 of those big names

Sounds like the Jays were in on Verlander and Thor with likely a bigger money 1 year deal, so doesn't like they're scared of TJ surgery and bigger 1 year deals. Only thing is Rodon has had many issues, which may scare them, but he was just so good last year when healthy it's worth the risk for me.

Mets offer to scherzer sounds ridiculous

Looks like you have some owners willing to spend like crazy. Trade market might be a better option with some of these contracts being thrown around

I'd say Espinal is higher on depth chart than Biggio
