Boom, 22 per for 5. That's lower than the projection for Semien, so Ray is still doable.

If we get Gausman for 5x20, I would definitely look at getting Rodon on a 1 year show me deal. A rotation of,

Gausman
Berrios
Rodon
Manoah
Ryu

Now that would be one hell of a rotation. If there's any chance we could move Ryu, that would be even better.

Wow does that leave us room to resign ray as well? If you got a gausman-ray-berrios-manoah-Ryu rotation I could play second base and we would be a contender

How does this rank in terms of the significance of when the Jays signed Ryu? Bigger? Same? Smaller?

I've never been a big fan of Gausman but he just finished 6th in NL Cy Young voting. Ryu was top 3 when we signed him. so I guess it's fairly similar.

Would be better if Ryu can get back to his old self. If he did that’s a pretty good 4 to go with so far.

Would signing Gausman take them out re-signing Ray?

Unless they really want to skimp out elsewhere then probably. But they've likely still got up to 40 million to spend so it's not impossible. Long term it could be a squeeze though. I think they look shorter term now. Which for another good pitcher is probably Rodon or cheaper medium term with Gray.

Wow I went out for a late night snack without my phone just to come home to see this! Honestly this is a pretty good deal for both parties. Kevin got PAID a year after he bet on himself and 5 years for a $22M AAV still gives the Jays a ton of leverage going forward. And on top of it all, they just got an elite top of the rotation arm the same day after losing their star second basemen.

I'd say grab Jon Gray or Carlos Rodon and the starting pitching will be ELITE next year. If they can find a way to get Ray back as well even better lol
