Ray seems like the kind of guy that could easily just take a bit less to stay in Toronto to win but he's definitely taking advantge of being a free agent to see what it's all about. I also think fit for his family is a big thing too.

Given the smoke around the trade market with us, I imagine we may acquire another starter.

However I am still a firm believer we should look to bring back Ray if possible.

Also, RIP Nate Pearson lol. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s included in a deal. Though I guess him starting at AAA isn’t the end of the world

Pearson was pretty much always ticketed for AAA. He didn't get many innings this year.

If they did bring Ray back even long term. The dollars likely aren’t that inhibitive because Ryu and Grichuk are both up in two years when Vlad and Bo start really earning. Depth could be tough though.

If they add another solid starter I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Pearson become a pen arm, at least for 2022, with some spot starts here and there. They have a bunch of rotation pieces in place long term (Berrios, Gausman, and Manoah) so it may not be a bad idea to try him as a high-leverage reliever at this point.

Lots of options, at least.
