A massive thread only to have it come down to this.

I guess it should have been more than clear what the outcome would be, when Dubois insisted on a trade getting done now.

I will have even more faith in this group if they were in the PLD derby this whole time but were self aware enough where they were in the asset accumulation phase to not over-extend to make PLD happen.

That's the type of move MB would have tried to make.

Not quibbling with how management has been handling it but evidently, expending key assets during a rebuild is counter-productive.

Dubois did what was best for himself. Habs are looking out for themselves by staying the course.

Next year's ufa crop, at this moment is amazing.
Who sould we realisticly target? Sadly odds say none of em will want to come here . as usual. Plus UFAs salary demands will be off the charts with the increasing cap next summer. Will there be better options than PLD for free in the next 5 years AND at a good price? I doubt it.

Draisaitl will al out certain go to ufa unless traded to a team he wants to go.

That said and it's unlikely he comes here, but Matthews is a ufa.

There's also Lindholm, Aho.

I know people won't like it but Schiefele would be a ufa, but on the older side.

Elias Petterson is rfa, but if he doesn't want to re-sign and the Habs can take a step forward, might be able to pay assets and get him.

Nylander is soft as f***, but he's ufa.

There's a bunch of decent middle 6 forwards at this point who are ufa.

Habs need to draft smart and if the rumours are true make a good, smart trade to bring in another solid player for the core.

PLD would be nice, but he's not that upper echelon player the Habs need to add.

We’ll have to switch the Dubois chatter to Sebastian Aho and make it about how it’s a better use of our cap room.

Safe to say most of these guys get locked up by their teams or traded this summer. Rarely do teams let them just walk to UFA.

Calm the F down.

1- The trade hasn't been announce
2- The Vilardi talks all came from someone who speculate without info
3- Pagnotta just rewrite what Lavoie tweeted this morning, since when those are insiders?
4- I still can't figured out why LA traded Durzi for peanuts instead of putting him in a deal for PLD, seems like a piece they would want according to the same speculation than Vilardi.

PLD might very well end up in LA.....but like last night it was a deal done that Hayes was going to St-Louis and Deangelo was going to Carolina and both of those still hasn't materialize.

Yeah, but this offseason in my opinion will be unique. The cap goes, or is expected to go up significantly, but even then some of those teams won't be able to sign those players to the inflated deals they want.

Might be the best chance for some teams to get a really, really good forward for "free"

See how things go a week, or so after July 1st and how many will have extensions in place already.

Bottom line is if PLD wanted to come to Montreal he could. He doesn’t have to sign an extension and could walk in next year and sign long term.

If he goes to LA, which looks highly likely, it’s not because Habs didn’t offer enough, it’s because PLD chose to go. Habs aren’t going to match Vilardi and Iafallo value and if they did, they’d be much less competitive in the future.
