LA is a cool place to live as a millionaire, can't blame him.

As for WPG, not sure what they see in Vilardi, guy can't stay healthy. Consolation prize i guess.

It’s wild the difference between the two choices for him. In LA he would fade into relative obscurity. No one in the city would remotely care who he was, but he would have nice weather and a chill job where he could show up and get paid millions and no one really cares if he has a bad game.

MTL on the other hand he would be one of the most famous people in the entire province and would have immense pressure and expectations every single day.

We know the choice that Phil Danault made but everybody is different. The fact that this story has even gotten this big means, to me, either PLD is using us to raise his price, or he truly wants to be here.
Habs always get used................but this time, HuGo is under no pressure to do something stupid ala Bergevin/Sergachev/Drouin................I know PLD is twice the player Drouin was, but good on the boys for holding course.................LA looks like the big destination.

Still waiting for a legitimate source to back up Pagnotta.

Bergevin is not the GM. He probably has little input.
Not every team has the GM at the forefront of every role. Some teams have the assistant gm manage the cap, some have them negotiate tradesz etc. LA have suddenly pivoted onto a player who doesn't fit their needs, from a team that has other assets that do fit their needs better, that Bergevin has been after for 7 years. It is hard to believe he has had no input here.

Major cap and futures for 50-60pts Frenchy.

Very on brand.

He'll eventually be under the same pressure, and do the same kind of dumb moves, if he sits back to watch the parade like most of its predecessors at the beginning of their tenure.

Not seizing this opportunity has chances to hurt later anyhow. Maybe he gets other opportunities, lucky him.

There was no worthwhile opportunity if that trade goes through. Offering equal assets to Dubois does not improve the team.

I knew this PLD saga would never end in getting him for free as UFA or only offering scraps to the Jets. At the same time I wouldn’t want to give any actual good pieces and then a massive contract as well.

We aren’t ready in our rebuild to be doing that.

I don't see a huge difference from what they have now. It would make more sense to target Helle as they'll never get through Edmonton fighting fire with fire.

Yeah, they would have to be defensively strong to get through Edmonton, or have superlative goaltending. Vegas had a big, strong D.

They still have neither. They're going to be relying on kids on D too.

I understand the reasoning due to Kopitar's age. Ideally, you get his replacement this year then next year with more cap room hope to bring in an impact goalie, or a D. This isn't necessarily a move for this year, but for coming years.

They don't have a replacement for Kopitar. Turcotte, Vilardi, Kupari, Byfield none are doing that.
