Doesn't matter one bit, there is a bidding war taking place,

Winnipeg will get a decent return,

Florida's 1st won't cut it as the best piece,

Then like I said, hope he does well on his new team that isn't the Habs.

I'm all for bringing in Dubois... if the price is right. Any conversation about Dach and Hughes should immediately hang up. I'm not even thrilled about potentially trading Beck but Dach is an absolute no. I'd much rather have the cost controlled 22 year old who will still be a RFA in three years than a 65 point $9M center.

It's been pretty obvious for a long time that PLD and Winnipeg are heading for a divorce. Winnipeg is desperately trying to save face in what was a pretty bad trade for them to get PLD.

Will Chevy finally get fired? I think he probably should be. But they held onto him after the Beach abuse scandal, so who knows?

Personally, I'm not very interested in PLD. I hope the Habs pass. For me to be interested in PLD, the contract would have to be way lower and the trade compensation way less than are generally being discussed.

Everybody entitled to their opinion. Also, people entitled to tell people how ludicrous some opinions are
If Montreal trade the 5th overall for him then the GM gets fired.
If Dubois signs for 5 million his agent gets fired.
Absolutely. But telling people that their opinion is ludicrous is different than telling someone they can't have an opinion that seems ludicrous to you.

Again, there's no way this situation doesn't go through a more serious independant assessment.
There's always injuries no matter how minor that can be exacerbated. A team can evaluate injuries and the existence of them but they can't decide the progress of subjective recovery for a person

I think Tkachuk himself said that he could have easily signed a one year deal and not resign with the Flames to go where he wants, but he didn’t want to do that to them and he wanted to just start fresh asap.

This was my understanding of it too.

I'm still in if he will sign long term ~8m and we don't have to give up major assets.

FLA 1st, Dvorak, Beck and COL 2024 2nd

I'm not too worried about character issues. At least I don't think we have enough info to say his asking out again shows it.

By demanding a sign and trade he has force MTL to give prime assets rather than wait a year, there will be no hometown discount. If we sign him he better be a monster or he'll be dead meat.

This was my understanding of it too.
Of course this is just my opinion and I could be totally wrong, but I think PLD did the same thing last year with the Jets. I still believe we had a trade with the Jets to get PLD but Chevy tried to pull a fast one on Hughes and dealt with bad faith by changing the asking price with PLD being in attendance at the draft in front of the home crowd.

If the Habs were to acquire PLD I’m way more worried about the assets they give up than his next contract (which if it is 8 years would be when he is 25-32). 8 years X 8.5 AAV is my guess, which won’t look that bad in a few years when the Cap starts to really increase.

As far as an offer sheet goes I think it would be a bit of a mistake for a team that just finished 5th last and last the past two seasons to give up an unprotected 1st, especially in a division where the Habs are probably the 8th best team on paper, even with PLD.

here's your rumor of the day:

just walked by Geoff Molson on the corner of Grosvenor and the boulevard.
He was looking chubby and frumpy in his ankle shorts, walking his golden retriever with his wife.
I said Hi Geoff, what's up with Dubois?
He smiled and kept walking
my wife was wondering what the hell I was talking about and couldn't believe he was a millionaire

Was it a "we're going to trade the farm for him" kind of smile or a "we're gonna fleece Chevy" kind of smile??

Inquiring minds want to know...

I assume it wouldn't have been for any of the assets in the Dach trade because i don't see how HuGo would have had time to complete the Dach trade otherwise.

He's the other thing to consider if Habs have to give up Dach in a Dubois deal (and I'm torn about it)
1) do they even view him as a C longterm because of his face-off issues - and if so, do they feel they can replace him on the wing with guys like Slaf, Leonard and Anderson
2) He has had issues staying healthy

these will be internal arguments if they end up dealing him for Dubois.

longer term, they will then possibly go with:

Caufield - Suzuki-Slaf
Anderson-Dubois-? (Leonard/Smiith/ etc

bottom 6 not clear yet, but guys like Dvorak, Beck, Evans
at C

There’s no arguments. They’re not even thinking about trading Dach lol.

Funny people bringing up Thachuk and Debrincat, both much better players who've only requested out of one team not three. I'd take Debrincat at 9m 10/10 over Dubois.

I hope Dubois isn't interested in Carolina. The canes acquiring Dubois by trading Kotkaniemi would be such an annoying scenario.
