That is a crazy stupid hyperbole even for you.A late 2nd in this year's draft is nearly worthless
It's like having a 5th round pick in last year's draft.

No draft year is that bad.A late 2nd in this year's draft is nearly worthless

In light of Ben Pope’s reporting yesterday that Jones is talking with the Hawks about trades and “wanting to give himself a chance to win”, I have had a change in opinion on the Hawks willingness to retain on his contract. I think this would make the Hawks more willing to retain because it I may be more important to move Jones out before his desire to leave negatively impacts the rest of the team.Totally disagree, I can’t see the Hawks retaining on Jones for that long unless the acquiring team is significantly overpaying. As I suggested in my proposal, I could see them taking a cap dump back (Dumba or Ceci) but that’s it.
doesn’t this seem like more of an offseason move once Benn’s contract is up? Hard to see Chicago retain anything substantial for that long
This- and if Chicago isn’t going to take a little bit of a bath on this and retain/Dumba then how would you expect ‘GM of the Year’ 2 years running Jim Nill not to heel turn and go for something else better or more conservative. This is the year Dallas should go all in because next year will be tricky with multiple guys needing raise's and they have a great team, especially once they add another top 4 D
If Dumba goes the other way at the TDL, replacing him with Jones adds 1.25 million in cap for the rest of the season and next year Jones net cost is 5.75 on the cap (again minus Dumba's cap). This Summer the cap goes up 10 million, you are not paying Benn 9.5 (if you bring him back at all), Ceci gets replaced by a kid (saving 2 million). Fitting Jones in this year and next (with Dumba included) is not even remotely a problem) and the next 2 seasons you'll have added 10million per in cap to deal with other pieces.doesn’t this seem like more of an offseason move once Benn’s contract is up? It may have, but then Heiskanen went out with an injury, so Dallas has some LTIR space, and a hole on their top defensive pair.doesn’t this seem like more of an offseason move once Benn’s contract is up? Hard to see Chicago retain anything substantial for that long
That's fair, but I struggle to see Chicago retain anything. Based on what Capwages has listed Dallas would have to jettison Dumba and Ceci to make it work if my math is correct, not that they would hesitate if that's what they had to do.If Dumba goes the other way at the TDL, replacing him with Jones adds 1.25 million in cap for the rest of the season and next year Jones net cost is 5.75 on the cap (again minus Dumba's cap). I think your math is wrong (or mine is lol). At the trade deadline, there is a little less than 22% of the season days left (42 remaining of 192). So a Jones (9.5) for Dumba (3.75) is a season difference of 5.75 which at 22% means roughly 1.25 million in cap added at the TDL.That's fair, but I struggle to see Chicago retain anything. Dumping Dumba and Ceci is probably a good bet here actually. Dumba ends up being a long term dump, but its better than retaining. Ceci is a UFA and the Hawks can likely flip him to another playoff team looking for a depth RD. Lots of teams are going to be looking for defense depth. That's fair, but I struggle to see Chicago retain anything. Ah, yes. My bad. I was using gross current numbers. I've never been good at the sliding cap space accrual thing. OK. If it's something Dallas can do at the deadline they should absolutely give it a try. I presume Chicago would want a first and a good prospect or equivalent in return. Maybe an extra pick based on how Dallas does in the playoffs. Dallas has a great team and have as good a chance as any to go to the finals this year.I think your math is wrong (or mine is lol).
