Is Kirby Dach ready to be the #1 centre next season?

Hmmm

I seem to recall the talk being the choice was Zegras or Dach and the Hawks took the bust instead of the stud.

(Hands on hips, turns head and smiles)

Kirby Dachs a bust

Zegras was definitely discussed prior to the draft. The bulk of the conversation centered around Turcotte v Byram, but Zegras was talked about as more of a homerun swing as he looked like the flashiest, most offensively talented in the group and the only question was if he could pull it off at higher levels.

iirc it came down to zegras vs dach if they went with a forward and they leaned toward dach because of the size...wonder how much that played a part in their decision because dach was perceived to have ability to step into the nhl sooner and their jobs were presumed to be on the line

Huh, the main consensus was Bryan, Turcotte, Dach, or Cozens... maybe Zegras in that mix but those were the constant talk of who was next after Hughes and Kakko.

Kelley mentioned zegras in the one draft video, can’t remember what he said exactly but something along the lines of potentially the highest ceiling, I believe thats what triggered the zegras discussion.

Zegras was no one’s top 3. Dylan Cozens was more likely to be picked by us at 3 than Zegras was. Pure revisionist nonsense saying anything otherwise.

This forum was split something like 45% in favor of Byram, 45% Turcotte, 10% other. Go pull up the old thread, I’m sure even the poll results are similar to that.

I 100% remember Zegras being mentioned on Twitter on draft day on Twitter as a dark horse candidate for the Blackhawks to pick. The whole Byram-Turcotte debate was purely between fans as far as I know

After tonight’s game Dach has now completed 64 games over the last two seasons…equal to his rookie year

2019-20
64gp 8g 15a 23pts -1 24pim

2020-21 and 2021-22 so far
64gp 9g 19a 28pts -4 37pim

some improvement…

I think Dach's game has been better in the last 2 games. Still too many fly-bys and inconsistency but overall he's been more noticeable and not nearly as passive physically.

Here's hoping he has begun to turn the corner.

Agreed. He may be picking up more points, but most aren't as a result of driving the play itself or anything.

He has been looking a bit better, though.

he did sandwich those two numbers with a great bubble performance
9gp 1g 5a 6pts…

Dach has played more playoff games in one playoff season than both of those Toronto boys…Marner and Matthews…he’s been on a team that won a series at least

Dach is starting to show more of late and he MAY be turning the corner. I think he is going to turn out to be a really good player as I believe he is just developing slower than expected is still learning how to use his body. His injuries and the pandemic have hurt his development so patience will be key here. All the tools are there but now we see if he has the toolbox.

Needs to go down to Rockford to reestablish his offensive game.He also needs to work hard every shift and stop losing his man in coverage. If a team with a surplus of draft capital were to make a decent offer I think the Hawks should consider moving him.

I haven't liked his compete level. I've seen a difference in his forechecking effort level and consistency. He used to be like Hagel when he was younger. Now he takes shifts off a lot more. He isn't established enough to even think about doing that.

Agreed ...

... and most will know what I'm going to say next: the Country Club atmosphere in Chicago is still alive.... Dach has adapted.....and it's not a good thing.
