Is Kirby Dach ready to be the #1 centre next season?

Would do Kirby some good to play with the IceHogs once the season is done and possibly line up next to brother Colton. Phillip Kurashev could also benefit from an AHL stint.

It hurts ... but no matter how you cut it, this line-up has almost as many AHLers or fringe NHLers as it does proven NHL players.... and defence isn't much different.
This is Stan's legacy at work.

Yup.

That’s gotta be one of the most pathetic bottom 9’s I’ve ever seen. Lines 2-4 are awful when compared league wide. Kubalik is a fringe 3rd liner on a true contender and on our team he’s the 3rd most notable/recognizable forward in the entire lineup. It’s gotten so bad.

The forward group wouldn't be that bad if we had a healthy Toews, TJ, and Khaira and if Dach & Kubalik didn't fall off the face of the planet (a lot of "ifs", I know).

Our D on the other hand...

Columbus is paying the Hawks a large lump sum to be inept, incompetent and talent-light to get a lottery pick.....it's as plain as day.

#2 OVR pick Byfield isn’t lighting the world on fire yet either. Neither have Laf or Kakko. Using a 3rd OVR on Dach I was hoping he’d score 50-60 points this year and look like he’s piecing things together for a breakout year next season but those expectations were probably unreasonable from the begging.

He hasn’t taken the next step which is frustrating to watch. But seeing all these other top draft picks struggle makes me think it has less to do with Dach and more to do with it being rare a 19-21 year old kid comes in and does well in a man’s league.

Also, there were a lot of really good players taken high that were good right away from 2005-2016. It created unrealistic expectations because the NHL had a really good, long run of top incoming talent. Now that it has dried up, the top of the NHL draft is going back to historical norms.

I literally have no idea what happened to the guy from the playoff bubble in 2020 because that guy looked like a budding star. Maybe if they didn't play Kirby at all last year things would have been different this season.

Nobody knows. He doesn't look like the same player he was before the wrist injury. Have no idea if they're related or not.
Thanks!

It certainly didn't seem like much of an injury - I saw the game. I don't get it but I sure wish he'd develop into what everyone hoped.

We do too. It sucks, but it is what it is. I think he's having a confidence issue and maybe the wrist injury has affected his shot and handles. He had really slick hands and puck control for a guy his size before the injury.

He's needed to be in Rockford since December. Hawks are too stubborn to send him down.
You guys will trade him and he'll skyrocket. That's always the way.

Anyway, thanks for the input, boys, and good luck to Dach. Would love to see him develop.

As an outsider looking in, in 25 words or less (please), what is going on with Dach?
He has little compete, and based on recent remarks by the coach he wants to be elite now and is frustrated that he isn’t. Seems like he wants the status without putting in the work and earning it.

Hopefully Davidson’s changes to the scouting department systematically avoids players like this in the future.

Going to Rockford sends a message.

Keeping him in Chicago is a reward. It fuels his entitlement.
Maybe, but there’s just as much of a chance that the send down makes him pout and demand a trade or some dumb shit.

We don’t know for sure because we’re not around the kid daily like King and Davidson are. I think King calling him out in the media is an indication they’re aware a problem exists and don’t think Rockford is the solution.

Also, the whole compete thing in general that Boyle said he talked to Davidson about very much seems like a subtweet at Dach, but others as well.

Dach is acting entitled?

I knew him rooming with Nylander in their rookie year was gonna start issues. Those Nylanders are bad influences!

Holy f***, when did this come out?
Disappointing. :(
This is what I get for being away from the team since the ASB.
