Is Kirby Dach ready to be the #1 centre next season?

Zawaski said on his podcast that Dach doesn’t appear to be the next generational star for the Hawks, and that he’d listen to offers.

He said he’s not giving up on him, but he’s probably not #3 overall material.

I'll bite on the Thornton comparison. Joe played 55 games his first season and had 7 points with almost zero PP time. The next year he had 41 points (16 goals) and the following 60 points (23 goals). No he didn't have an injury but as you can see Joe had an upward trajectory while Dach is the total opposite.
Pat Burns wanted to teach him to play defense that's why his points total was so low if I remember this right.

Okay, trading him is still dumb as f***. He's way down and you're gonna get a terrible return. You just ride it out and hope he can figure it out. Support him. I am definitely down on him but moving him would be ridiculous.

That's one way to look at it. The other is that even though his value is down, it's probably not going to be higher than it is now so move him while you still can.

You certainly can't say that his value will never be higher. He's still quite young. I think you have to start second guessing the player he might become, but he's still useful.

I was playing devil's advocate with that post.

I think you hang on to Dach and hope for the best because they're so thin at forward.

A team with zero center depth absolutely should not trade the 3rd overall pick, at 20 years old. People still seem to forget his development has been derailed not only by a wrist injury, but two f***ed up COVID seasons. Missed offseason training with the team. Missed training camps. Not to mention a f***ing disaster of coaching.

It’s amazing isn’t it

He has 100% without question “regressed”.

This is a kid who as a rookie was noticeable just about every game, even if the production wasn’t there. There was flashes of his potential. And he was almost always one of our better forwards, despite playing a lot with guys like Carpenter in the bottom 6.

Dach legitimately had me excited. I was very impressed by how well he looked in his first season. But these days(and really going back to last season when he made that early return from injury) he hasn’t looked the same. I notice him far less, and those flashes of elite skill seem to be happening less and less as time goes by. He is no doubt worse now than he was when he first joined the team a few years ago.
I think the fact that he was regularly smoked when he tried to do too much has affected his play. But he needed to change things if he wanted to survive, so it's not all bad. Hopefully, it's all part of the learning curve.

There's no need to jump ship on Dach yet. The hawks are in a rebuild and we're going to need centers regardless. Give it some more time, if this keeps up its not like he's going to demand a ton of money.

They are going to ruin dach just like the bears ruin qbs by surrounding him with inferior talent and bad coaching until he loses his potential.

I'm not going to pretend I had Zegras over either though.

Was not a fan of Byram and Turcotte.
This Zegras over Dach stuff is premature nonsense

Give me a refreshed Kirby coming off a stint in Rockford and then let's see who's the better player

I guarantee come playoff time, anyone would rather have Kirby Dach over Trevor Zegras. Zegras is gonna be like Marner. Great in regular season then choke in the playoffs when his perimeter play gets exposed and the game gets too physical. Meanwhile Kirby thrives.

I would have loved to see a Zegras and Reichel tandem. Speed, skill and creativity
