Oh, I'm all in favor of doing that. Remember after '17, when the Eagles ran it back in '18 (and then once again in '19)?

Didn't work out too well, did it? (Sure, we'll never know what would have happened if Jefferey catches that pass in New Orleans but still, the result simply wasn't there with two 9-7 seasons).

So, I'm all for re-tooling and tweaking the roster every year, especially when you can't afford to pay everybody to begin with.

It's just reaching the point where the amount of turnover on defense is starting to worry me a little. Slay, Milt, Sweat, CJGJ, Rodgers, Burks all gone, probably BG as well. That's A LOT of quality snaps that will have to be replaced.

I’ve already accepted that I’m not going to like what they do at off ball LB. To me, there’s one healthy guy on the whole roster since Dean was hurt so late in the year. There has never been a second in college or the pros where I thought Trotter was an NFL player. I’d be looking at trying to bring in someone like Kyzir White or Christian Rozeboom on a dirt cheap deal just to have a baseline. They’re not good at all. Vet minimum or I’ll find someone else.

I’m also curious what they think of guys like Josh Uche. This is a bargain hunting year, so I’d like for them to take some zero/low cost swings with upside on their beliefs.

Yeah, that would make a ton of sense. Especially the Slay, (anticipated) Goedert & CJGJ moves. IMO it's possibly/probably a year early to get rid of them now, but if you're looking more at 2026, it starts to make way more sense.

With the current state of the NFC, there is no way Howie is ruling out contending in 2025.

It’s not ruling out contending. 2026 is their cap space bottleneck right now. Since space carries over for a year, you can either borrow more against 2026 to stack next year’s team or you can try to smooth the curve. The way I personally read the off-season is the latter. I could easily be wrong.

They’re going to try to win. They’re just probably going to be younger this year than they were last.

Or it could be 13-14 again if some guys take jumps. But they’ll probably need that to happen.

I know the NFL is a league that we can't do it this far out or even ever really but their schedule next year terrifies me.

Not in the sense of they can't win or anything but just that it's a god damn gauntlet on the road. Murderer's Row.

A lot of comes down to health and some good scouting, your not always going to hit a Baun in FA but if you get Baun-lite and you get a decent draft. William was the only one that really hurts with replacement, Sweat is a loss but he was so inconsistent. We have to hope that Hunt keeps improving and Smith can get healthy and not regress. Every move is a gamble, nothing is a guarantee.

Honestly though the biggest issue will be everyone staying healthy. Aside from BG and Nakobe towards the end of the season I think our defense was pretty stable in terms of staying on the field. If they stay healthy for the most part I think we'll be fine and there is still time to improve or reload. Obviously their first round pick isn't a lock for anything, but there are guys that should be able to contribute in the first two rounds and Howie has been good at picking up guys cut during camp and there's always a slew of UDFAs that surprise (not necessarily here but throughout the league).

For sure. We've got to see how the rest of free agency shakes out before we can really form much of an opinion I think.

Lots of good Free Agents out there still that won't get the bag they wanted and can positively contribute to the team. Also have lots of picks in the future (if we keep our comp picks from this signing period) we can use to trade for some guys we'd like. A 5th here, a 5th there, etc.
