Is Kirby Dach ready to be the #1 centre next season?

To me, Dach's best-case scenario was always Ryan Getzlaf.

Getzlaf was drafted in 2003.

His rookie year was 2006.

He truly 'arrived' in 2007.

He became dominant in 2009.

The worry people should have is not, 'is Kirby good', the worry people should have is 'did we f*** up Kirby's development by fast-tracking him to the NHL for no good reason?'.

Have we cut the knees out of this kid for short-term fuzzy feelings like a meaningless series win against Edmonton in a not-really-playoffs-series, or rushing him back from wrist injury for a doomed-before-it-began playoff 'push', instead of letting him develop properly.

Yes, now send him to Rockford

The problem is Rockford hasn't helped develop a player since...who, Andrew Shaw?

I'd be fine with sending Dach to the AHL if I felt like the Blackhawks AHL program was worth a shit, but I don't.

I think he's stuck in a bad organization at a bad time and is kinda screwed. Unless the Blackhawks completely revamp their development pipeline (lol, not going to happen), or let him pick an adult league in Europe or something.

Bowman has really f***ed this team in so many ways.

If Dach needed that much time to develop, he shouldn't have been taken 3rd overall.
IIRC before draft night in 2019 Zawaski said they were between Dach and Zegras at 3rd. It seemed like a case of choosing the worse player because he could potentially help now vs. making the right call at the spot. Always a bad choice.

@JaegerDice
I'm interested to see Jones' fancy stats since Colliton got fired if you have them.

Brandon Hagel.

Brandon Hagel.

Brandon Hagel is a lot like Andrew Shaw, in that you know you're a good team if he's in your bottom 6, and you know you're a bad team if he's in your top 6.

I'm not sure how good or not-good he was before heading to Rockford, to be honest.

Kirby is the concern now, but dumbf*** Bowman rushed multiple guys because he constantly found himself desperate for cheap roster players.

There’s no doubt the franchise struggled to develop high end talent, but it also struggled to develop good/cheap bottom six talent.

There should’ve been more Hagel and Shaw types coming up who could’ve filled roles until the top prospects were truly ready.

It was just a constant top-to-bottom organizational shitshow for years, and if Dach doesn’t reach his potential, that blame belongs on Bowman.

Ya, I’m just saying you missed him but mentioned Shaw.

Like I said above, this franchise should’ve been developing a lot more Shaw and Hagel types. Maybe I’m jaded a bit, but it looks like Pittsburgh has been consistently doing it for more than a decade.

If you want to maintain relevance you have to have a strong development program. Or you can use the Troll Stan method of throwing mud at the wall.

In his age 21 season Getzlaf had 58 points in 82 games. Dach has 46 points for his career, 13 so far in his age 21 season. On pace for 33 points this year. Getzlaf had 82 points in 77 games in his age 22 season (07-08). Hell even as a 20 year old rookie Getzlaf had 39 points in 57 games. Dach barely has that in 114 games. These comparisons are silly.

Don't come in here and piss in everyone's cheerios, okey?
A lot of us still hold out hope for Kirby.

Teravainen put up 35 pts in 78 games as a 21 year old and turned out fine.

Getzlaf like many others of that draft had the benefit of not being rushed because of the lockout

he was 20 in his rookie season. Dach was 19
And he had an extra year in the whl and got a start to his career dominating the AHL where there was no immediate rush let him have a couple months despite huge numbers he and Perry put up.

Dach is shit.He coasted the whole game .He had a grade a chance on a brake away but doesn't have top end speed with the puck and got caught from behind and then clearly let himself get dipsy doodle in ot without taken the body on winning goal in ot
