The reality is this franchise primarily cares about playoff revenue and showing broccoli haircuts on the RangerstownTM jumbotron.

Having elite goaltending helps accomplish that goal. Cup talk is always a marketing lip service.

Half the fans feel the same way. There are those on here who admitted it’s more important to them to see relevant playoff hockey without ever being a real contender and just hoping lightning strikes, versus sticking out the tank and having to go through the agony of turning yourself into a powerhouse through smart asset accumulation.

That’s how you get 1 cup in 80+ years.

Look at the goalies that have won the cup the last 10+ years. Not the same position as it once was…Dryden, Parent, Smith, Roy etc. it’s an overpayment in my mind. But time will tell.
