Yeah. I’m not going to throw a fit about locking up the best postseason goalie in the league for 8 years. Not all that shocked that most people somehow are though.

Yes? A straight up bad goalie has won the Cup six times since the lockout, not even getting into the average ones. I don't know why you're saying this like people made it up.It’s insane. Something about 2M goalies win cups so we dont need igor![]()
He might not even be taking up 12% by next year, nevermind 8 years from now.So for the next 8 years we have to watch a team get outplayed because we can’t sign players because our goalie is taking over 12% of the cap like Henrick did.
I mean you can spin this how you want, but the fact is the issue has nothing to do with goaltending and much more so with the fact that Landeskog hasn't played in 3 years and after they handed Nichuskin a huge contract he decided to become a vice addict. Those are pretty unique scenarios that have hamstrung them.Cant do it now that they had to pay everyone. We're not the only team that has that problem.
They already did one. But no they won’t do one again so soon. This franchise will never do a full rebuild -- especially under Dolan ownership.

You are spinning Colorado's lack of winning a cup (which they still did quite recently) on the fact that they don't have a goalie like Igor, which just isn't true.Im not spinning anything. You can win with a goalie making 10+. Florida did it 6 months ago.
Or you can not go w/ the anomaly who had among the cheapest D cores in finals history and instead play the likeliest oddsIm not spinning anything. You can win with a goalie making 10+. Florida did it 6 months ago.

Yes, Florida did that but of late they have been the exception, not the norm and they still did it with a goalie making less than Igor.
We tried this experiment for a decade with a far better goaltender and it failed.
I don't watch many Winnipeg games.
Is he really 3M per year better than Hellebuyck? I get it, Igor is 2-3 yrs younger than him. Hellebuyck has 2 Vezina's. Igor has one. Hellebuyck has also been in the league a few more years than Igor.
Man, this team is going to need to find some serious value elsewhere on the roster moving forward to make up for paying a goalie that much. And Drury hasn't shown the ability to do so.
This deal was probably done weeks ago when Weekes reported it, and this was part of the implosion of the room.
I legitimately think we're the worst team in the league propped up by a generational goalie. When I watch the Ducks, Hawks, Habs; I see teams way more dynamic than us who control the play more than we do. I think many just have PTSD from Hank not winning a cup and have now determined that you cannot win a cup with an elite goalie and that we should get rid of an elite goalie as that's actually a detriment
That's not an actual strategy. A real strategy would look like building the team from Igor outwards and investing heavily in your D to supplement your highly paid goalie. We have an absolute mish-mosh of trash and randomly high salaries. Are we trying to be a high-octane offensive team? If so, we should be going after more players of that ilk and not signing highly paid goalies. It wouldnt have been my preferred road because of Henrik related trauma, but the other path was pretty dark and scary too. At least Drury seems to have a plan. Extent the guys who have shown up (Igor/Laf) and ship out the guys not pulling their weight (Trouba/Goodrow). I like the message that sends.

IMO if our plan is to actually build with an Igor cup win, we would pay out the ass for the highest quality defenders and actually move away from players like Laf who are pretty trash defensively.
This is unquantifiable, but if Helleybuck was so much better than Igor, why havent the Jets been past the first round since the Trouba Administration. You're not wrong about Helly ( I was at his 50 save game at the garden), but thats what i'll tell myself to feel better.
Probably true. Igor had a meltdown that night against Buffalo. Was that the Mika panic attack game too. WTF lol. I want names of who is unhappy in the room! We will ship you out tomorrow for guys who want to be here!
Keeping the avatar? If Shesterkin is the team's bad contract, I guess I can live with that. But this means that Mika can't be it.
We’ve repeatedly found good enough goaltending via free agency or internal development. That may not continue but man does it seem like we continue to overspend in an area we’ve scouted well. Whatever, we knew this was going to happen when he was on the opening day roster, they never entertained the thought of him not being on the roster. Not going to say it’s impossible, but it’s going to take some next level moneypucking, akin to what CAR and FLA have been doing. The irony is our greatest area to do that and find value is at G given Allaire’s magic, and we refuse to use it.
