Proposal: Alex Nedeljkovic to Edmonton

A 2nd would be more than fine but I imagine the Pens only get that if there are multiple teams involved and one team needs to step up to get him. Otherwise, a 3rd is totally realistic.

If it's just a 3rd, I could see a minor swapping of prospect too. Something like Neds+Poulin for 3rd+Petrov or something like that.

Well if we can't get Gibson or Vejjy, isn't it better we get him than enter the playoffs with what we have?

And not to draw direct parallels, but Roli wasn't exactly considered elite when we acquired him to save us from the fledgling tandem we had in '06.
Roloson was an average NHL starting goalie. I'm not sure if Ned is average or not.

I don't see Ned as a big upgrade on what we've got, truthfully. His raw numbers are underwhelming, his advanced stats are underwhelming, and we'd have to do cap shenanigans to fit him in. Don't really see the point in doing all that and giving up assets for what's not a sizable upgrade. He's better than Pickard but not by enough. IMO.

I've followed Ned a long time and he's a unique case, I don't really think he fits well in most systems. He needs a good defense in front of him and needs to get consistent starts/in to a groove. It's not a surprise he's playing his best hockey of the season after Jarry was waived and he's getting more starts. I have a feeling he'd be splitting a lot of time in Edmonton, I don't see him as much of an upgrade over Skinner/Pickard.

I'd do Ned for a 2nd. Signed and delivered.

These are the kinds of moves the Pens need to be making. Ned is our best goalie right now, but Blomqvist is already up as a backup. Murashov is a year away on the same or better trajectory than Blom. Larsson is still down there wondering why he hasn't gotten a call up despite out performing Blomqvist in the A, and if all else fails Jarry is still in the system taking up space. There is no deeper position on the Pens than goal, with two guys who have ceilings as solid starters if they pan out.

Done.

He's likely better than Stu too. Based on a minimum of 23 Games Played, Ned's GSAx per 60 (27 GP) is 21st; Stu's GSAx per 60 is 30th (37 GP).

Also quoting someone else from here:

"Nedeljkovic quietly on a run.

0.934 in his last 8gp. Allowed 2 or less goals in 7 of those games."

Keep in mind, again, Ned is playing behind a much worse defense, and some of these games were after the team lost one of their Top 4 D-men in Pettersen and acquired Vinny Desharnais...

His advanced stats are better than both Skinner and Pickard this year. Nedjelkovic is at a +1.7 GSAx while Skinner is at a -1.7 and Pickard is at a -4.2.

I think Nedjelkovic is likely about on par with Skinner.

Edmonton need an upgrade their goalie
If the playoffs started Today the series will be against Colorado.
Without an upgrade in net not sure Edmonton will pass the 1st round if they play Colorado

Not if you look at a wider sample size, and depends on where you look.

2024-25: Ned +1.6
2023-24: Ned -3.3
2022-23: Ned -8.9

Skinner:

2024-25: Skinner -1.7
2023-24: Skinner +2.0
2022-23: Skinner +6.8

Over the three year sample, Skinner is clearly better - and if he's a question mark, so is Ned. Why would we pay a 2nd, a 3rd, and Podkolzin just to still have question marks in goal?

If we're just disregarding the results we don't like, Skinner has very similar numbers to guys like Wolf and Oettinger since Dec 1st with a 12-6 record and a .910.

I don't think Skinner is the answer, but I *KNOW* Ned isn't the answer. There's a reason he's faced a starter's workload exactly once. If we're trading for a goalie I want it to be someone that can put Skinner in the back seat, and Ned's not that guy.

Oh, look at Ned's stats since Dec 1st, he's doing even better than Stu with a .913...on, it needs to be reiterated, a much worse team with a swiss cheese defense. Funny how you failed to reply to that comment with Skinner's last ten games. Is it because he's sitting at an .896 in that time? Hmm, you seem to be disregarding some interesting information yourself...

And watch how soon Skinner would join Schwartz's other pupil on waivers if he faced anything resembling a "starter's workload" in Pittsburgh...

And guess what? The Oilers might not have the option of another goalie. I'd rather have Gibson or Vejmelka myself, but do you really believe doing nothing is better than getting a goalie currently playing better than Skinner? And I will keep reiterating, behind a much worse defense...

And it wasn't disregarding numbers we don't like, it's showing that one goalie is playing better at the same time that the other is playing poorly. It's a good sign but not the sole argument. It was someone else's random post that I shared to bolster the argument. And as I will get to below, what you've "done for me lately" is more important than what you've done for me before when it comes to goaltending, especially since our window to win the cup is NOW and that window can close pretty fast. Also, if (when?) Skinner implodes again in the playoffs, wouldn't it be better to have someone closer to his level than below it stepping in?

Also, what if Skinner gets hurt and Pickard is our only choice? Wouldn't it be nice to have Pickard as our third option like he was supposed to be?

If this were the Skinner of two years ago, we wouldn't be having this conversation...which made his implosion in the playoffs that year all the more surprising. Yes, he was clearly better in 2022-23 and 2023-24. He is not clearly better by any measure in 2024-25, but thank you for that completely irrelevant data since what actually matters is this season. This season, Skinner has performed statistically worse behind a much better defense than Nedeljkovic (especially after Pettersen left).

But if you want to randomly compare numbers in previous seasons for no reason, Ned sits at .920 in the playoffs for his career after 9 Games. And it was the first and last season he was on a playoff team. Skinner was definitely below that number after his first nine games, I don't even need to look that one up, and he's currently sitting at an .894 after 35 Games...

Hey now, even I would rather have Gibson or Vejmelka and I made this thread! It's more just a question of our management not willing to pony up in net to win a Cup.
Imo it's a good suggestion. Even if he's close to Skinner, maybe having them as a true 1a/1b tandem would make both fresh goalies, with opponents kept guessing on who they face. Getting a goalie is mostly about addressing Skinner's trademark extended slumps. So it would be an upgrade. Maybe more of one than we think

There's some smart risk and reward there. He'd cost less and has a lower cap hit. If he pans out we'd have another season of good play, and if he doesn't then it's not much dead cap to endure.

Ultimately if Gibson or Vejmelka aren't available to us then I don't see that as a reason not to make a move in net.
