Yeah, this is just an inaccurate visual take to get more clicks and highlight the tax advantage. I'm not saying there isn't a tax advantage, but they left out a lot of details here Oettinger's signing bonus isn't as heavy, so he's going to pay more of that in away games where the tax might be higher. They is really just to raise eyebrows.

Players always say these contract things aren’t a distraction but how would you like to have to go to work and not know how much you’re going to make next year? Or have the pressure of doing well enough to ensure you get a nice raise? I work for the Federal Government so I am free of these worries. My salary is constant and my raises are low.

He already had more money than one can spend in a lifetime; he didn’t lose a second of sleep.

I can understand trade talks hanging over your head but sorry I can't empathize with not knowing if I'll make 11.5M or 12M.

If the R's werent paying him mega $ someone else would. Igor's just another member of the country club.

Hot take here:

Maybe it seems they're playing better in front of him is because Quick has played no higher than the 14th placed NHL team right now, and we lost that game. He's played the bottom 10 in the league 4 times already, with 3 of those teams actually in the bottom 5. Something tells me statistically that, at least on paper, we should look like we play better against literal bottom feeders.
Not such a hot take. You are spot on, I didn't even think about that. Then again, we don't play exceedingly well vs bottom feeders. Often barely just enough to win. I'm growing very tired of this losing. We havent seen this in over 3 years, if not more. Losing is one thing, how your playing is another, and losing to loser teams is unacceptable. Very early on in the season, the Trocheck line was doing their thing. In an attempot to get Zibby going, he shook things up and came up empty. Disrupted best line and even disrupted the "new kid line". I guess better now to "experiment and evaluate", then later on. It just sucks, everything has been sucking lately with "OUR" team. Get it together already, falling quickly.

Poor guy, already earned multiple millions of dollars and not knowing exactly how many more millions he's going to have stashed away. Truly a relatable everyman situation.

I’m not going to count on him being a historic playoff goaltender every time we are in the playoffs. Paying for playoff performance is a fools errand. Igor is a great goalie, but he’s been top-10 in most of the important goaltending categories, not even top-5, outside of 21-22.

Rangers are stuck with him now and better hope he’s a top-10 goalie for the majority of his contract.
We already know this bites us in the ass 6 or less years down the road. They’re not winning this year unless they have a MAJOR upheaval before the trade deadline, and a proper rebuild would take more than 6 years. And Kakko and Laf will potentially be on the decline by the time there’s “another window.”

Windows are a thing that IMO people focus on too much. They shift, they open early, close early, etc. A creative GM can turn over a roster in a couple season. 2014-2015 we had our best team in the decade. Then in 2018 we're going through The Letter and it looks like we're at the start of a dark period. Three non-Covid seasons later and we're back in the ECF and there again two seasons later.

Now you can argue we didn't do things the "right" way and you may be right; maybe that's why we never actually won. But my point is that a lot can happen in a relatively short period of time to significantly change the fortunes of a club. So for all the talk of us not being relevant again until the end of this deal, none of us know that and I would bet the farm that's inaccurate.
