Colorado has 3 of the biggest stars in the world but zero chance at a Cup because they can't get the goalie figured out. Of all the fair criticism of Igor, you can never say he doesnt perform his best in the big games.
They also cant afford their three stars with a contract like shesty.

I honestly don't know how Drury could watch Igor sink the ship this season as soon as he gets a legit bad defense in front of him and think "yep I'll give this guy 11.5M". This guy is an average goalie at best in the regular season, with some flashes of brilliance. He's as moody and mentally unstable as Mika. He will be Georgiev in a couple of years. f*** Drury.
I was initially on board with extending him but this is ridiculous. Does Drury actually think by giving him this contract he will all of a sudden snap out of it and play better?

Why? Igor could probably get $13M. 7 years. $91M. This summer. The Rangers gave him $92M over 8 years. The cap will be $97M next season assuming the NHL and PA agree to a new CBA in June which they really should and probably will. The cap should probably be $110M. The NHL and PA will spread out the cap increase over 2-3 years. Probably 2 years. At $110M there will be many hockey players overpaid. There are still the amount of players on the roster. Players will be overpaid. I don't see the issue. The Rangers need to reboot the team and rebuild the D. There should be plenty of money. The ELC players will still be important.

As long as the Rangers dont overpay for Jacob Trouba's and Barclay Goodrow's, the cap hit is a non issue.

I legitimately think we're the worst team in the league propped up by a generational goalie. When I watch the Ducks, Hawks, Habs; I see teams way more dynamic than us who control the play more than we do. I think many just have PTSD from Hank not winning a cup and have now determined that you cannot win a cup with an elite goalie and that we should get rid of an elite goalie as that's actually a detriment
I know a lot of people say this but how are we 23-7 with Quick? that's what on pace for 115 points over 82 games?!
But you're right Igor is still an elite goalie

Who wanted a full rebuild? That would make no sense. Most wantsd us to get rid of the rotten core. That’s 2-3 more players.
What is being fully rebuilt anyway? You've got a new younger core of players. Lafreniere is 22. Fox is 26. Igor is 27. Schneider is 22. More youth is on the way.

You've got young players who have elevated their game in the postseason on the roster right now. This team needs young centers and maybe another young LHD that's NHL ready.

The guys 30+ are on the outs. You can probably keep 2 of them. I'd keep Trocheck and Kreider, but you most likely can't move Mika unless he wants out, so Vinny is probably moved when his NMC becomes a M-NTC.

Exactly. We aren't getting a guy like McDavid. Good chance (like you said) we open the checkbook up for someone who's prime years are behind him. When Panarin is gone they have to spend it wisely (or spend it on the kids if they progress).

Well another thing is the Rangers at least most years are going to use up as much cap space as they have. If half or more of your roster are on ELC and second contracts that shoves more money to top players. Just make sure you choose wisely when you do spring some cash on a veteran player.

At the moment also Igor's was the last really big contract we had left. I imagine K'Andre will do okay and Kakko will do better but neither of them are big ticket players yet. Lindgren and Smith probably in their last year with us should pay for those two and we might have some left over.

A full rebuild is the same thing as getting rid of the rotten core. Obviously it depends on your definition of the rotten core.
Getting rid of a few aging country club boys isnt rebuilding the whole team.
