WTF? I walk the dog and come back to this!?!
It's far too dangerous to leave you guys alone...

Not a fan of this contract at all. Igor is good, but a cap hit like this, on a position that allows streaky players to win Cups, will stop us from ever assembling a roster that can ever quite get it done.
To offer a counterpoint, to we trust this team to assemble a roster if you give them money??!!

I'll add that the Rangers have kids coming.....players on ELC's and second contracts. Unless we decide to trade all our kids away we should be able to manage things. The problem isn't signing Igor IMO....it would be more like going into the next year or two free agency in July and opening up the checkbook for aging vets.

Guaranteed he starts to play better. Have no doubt the contract crap was on his mind.
Not saying we should have done it but getting rid of Trouba with no retention makes this a B+ plus day.

I honestly don't know how Drury could watch Igor sink the ship this season as soon as he gets a legit bad defense in front of him and think "yep I'll give this guy 11.5M". This guy is an average goalie at best in the regular season, with some flashes of brilliance. He's as moody and mentally unstable as Mika. He will be Georgiev in a couple of years. f*** Drury.
Igor isn’t sinking the ship.

I didn’t want to sign him to this contract but he’s so far from the problem .

Maybe ask your dog to hold it in. You're missing everything today.

I feel like we'd make some major moves and then in three or four years be like, "f***, if only we had an actual goalie, we might be able to compete. Now we're just the 2000s-era Flyers." So I'm okay with keeping him around. Yeah you don't want to tie up that much money in a goalie but if you want top players you gotta pay. And while I'm not always thrilled with him I do think he's a top player.

I really don't think there's much of a case that he is tbh.
Who’s better? Only one who has a claim is Hellebuyk but he hasn’t done anything to shake the fraud system goalie allegations with his playoff play.

Ullmark ? Nah.

The days of Hank and price putting up .930 sv % are over. Look at goaltending around the league. Igor is way better than average.

Exactly. We aren't getting a guy like McDavid. Good chance (like you said) we open the checkbook up for someone who's prime years are behind him. When Panarin is gone they have to spend it wisely (or spend it on the kids if they progress).

The Rangers were going to have 33M in salary space next season. If you're moving Miller, he's not getting paid. Kakko could be on the outside looking in too come summer.

Lindgren is coming off the books. It's more likely Kreider is coming off the books. Possibly Mika. Panarin has 1 year left. Who is breaking the bank besides Igor long term? It's a 1 year situation where it could be a little tight, unless you move out one of the guys above signed.

I don't think this move prohibits you from winning so long as we continue to remove players that are bad from the team. We did that with Trouba today and we kept a really really good goalie.

You can still rebuild the defense. You have countless ELCs that can be on the roster next season. I think a bunch of the what ifs have been removed from the room. Might even see a better team right now cause of this.

Not saying he isn't way better then average.

He's probably #2 but he has no argument against Hellebuyck since winning the Vezina.

Unless he gets hurt, most likely, Hellebuyck is on his way to three consecutive seasons with 30+ GSAA. That's unheard of. Not even Hank ever came close to it. It's like scoring 60 goals three years in a row.
