I’ll say it again. Igor is the best goalie on the planet.

No goalie is worth paying more than 9 mil though.

On the other hand, at least Igor actually gives a f*** so I have hope.

There is literally nothing outside of one season that suggests he's anything more than an average goalie that plays fairly well in the playoffs. The Justin Williams of goalies. Best goalie in the league is a media and fan driven narrative because they need to shit on the team and the only way they can do that is "muh PP" and "muh goalie".

I dont think that's true at all and nothing has signaled that besides your own negativity. The word after the Trouba trade has been a pretty unanimous "more moves to come". I see this as Drury settling the family business in 1 shot for a beleaguered locker room. They couldnt move forward until this was settled. And if the decision today was Trouba or Igor, it's a no brainer. They'll deal Lindy and Smith next. Kreider i bet will be used to acquire Brady or a comparable player. Panarin is off the book in 1,5 years, and can easily be moved this summer. I would not have done it, i want to reiterate that, but Drury had no safety net if he dealt Igor or let him walk.
It's also a sign to young guys that the org takes care of you if you sign shorter length deals. You don't have to be upset you don't get 8/64 off your ELC, Will Cuylle.

Can't wait for him to lose to a random 2 mill goalie in the playoffs

Remember when he almost lost to a 3rd stringer
Oh well. You have a much better chance winning a playoff series with a legit goalie than some shit 2M goalie. One player doesnt win a series, a team does, but having the best goalie over the last 3 playoffs on my team is the guy i want.

Why? Igor could probably get $13M. 7 years. $91M. This summer. The Rangers gave him $92M over 8 years. The cap will be $97M next season assuming the NHL and PA agree to a new CBA in June which they really should and probably will. The cap should probably be $110M. The NHL and PA will spread out the cap increase over 2-3 years. Probably 2 years. At $110M there will be many hockey players overpaid. There are still the amount of players on the roster. Players will be overpaid. I don't see the issue. The Rangers need to reboot the team and rebuild the D. There should be plenty of money. The ELC players will still be important.

I legitimately think we're the worst team in the league propped up by a generational goalie. When I watch the Ducks, Hawks, Habs; I see teams way more dynamic than us who control the play more than we do. I think many just have PTSD from Hank not winning a cup and have now determined that you cannot win a cup with an elite goalie and that we should get rid of an elite goalie as that's actually a detriment
I wasn't criticizing the signing as much as I was taking the piss out of you lol.

I'm fine with it TBH, but there is some serious work to be done around this roster. Trading Trouba away was a start.

Why don't you ever use commas?

So obviously this doesn't change the dynamic of this awful roster. We still have guys who need to go.

Let's be honest, had we let him walk we would have been the biggest shitstain in the entire league. That couldn't/was never gonna happen.

When he's on, he's the best in the world at what he does. On a really good team, he's got his cup already. On this team, he's the reason we aren't cellar dwellers.

Rebuild the roster as best you can. Take some pain for the gain.

Dont confuse youth and inexperience with losing the same way you can't confuse veteran experience with winning. It's about heart and effort. Always will be.

The cap is going to go up and this deal will become more and more manageable with time as long as Igor can stay among the top goalies in the league. He's arguably as important to the Rangers as Fox and Panarin....maybe more so than Panarin who only has a couple years left of his current deal. In any case you don't really get to choose what position your best players play and we don't really have anyone in our system including Quick or Garand who I'd want to put in the position of being a starting goalie in the NHL. Quick's too old for it and Garand is to the point where he shares the crease with Louis Domingue 50/50 in Hartford.

To me Sheshterkin's next deal was always going to hinge on Jacob Trouba (and probably Ryan Lindgren) moving on to another team. We've just accomplished that with Jacob and that we didn't have to retain makes this much easier to swallow. Lindgren hits UFA this summer. Things were in place now for this to contract to happen.

WTF? I walk the dog and come back to this!?!
It's far too dangerous to leave you guys alone...

Not a fan of this contract at all. Igor is good, but a cap hit like this, on a position that allows streaky players to win Cups, will stop us from ever assembling a roster that can ever quite get it done.

Somebody decided that Igor is playing like crap because the contract was hanging over his head.
