Wouldn't be surprised if he leaves. He should try for top dollar just like Matthews and Marner. That is the precedence they set.

Disagree with most here. If you're willing to keep Marner, you should be willing to keep Hyman. I believe Hyman is more useful that MM. True Hyman can't score but I don't see Marner lighting it up now or anytime soon. And. Hyman has something none of the core has, heart and determination. He actually is well acquainted with the boards. I am sure he has the bumps and bruises to prove it. Given the attitude toward him, I for one, hope he leaves and lands himself a huge contract. He makes me think of what Uncle Leo Komarov would have been like if he were really, really good. I wish Zach all the best no matter where he lands.

True, but now because of MM and AM, Leafs can not afford to give him a huge contract anyway. But then again, I am not interested in giving a player like him a huge contract. If he were 25 then maybe. He can go hunt for big money, or stay at home at a reasonable price.

I think you can dump Marner, if you can find someone willing to take his ridiculous contract. Then, you can turn around and sign Hyman for $4.5 million for 5 years. That way you have started the ball rolling to fill in your team with some good lunch bucket players at a more or less reasonable price. Right now, if Hyman leaves without Dubas finding an adequate replacement, Leafs miss the playoffs next year. The puck will just sit in the corner and the opposition will be able to walk it out.

Robertson couldn't even knock Joe Thornton or Pierre Engvall out of the lineup, and you're expecting him to replace Zach Hyman, who played more than both Nylander and Tavares....

Just because Zack "Hands" Hyman get a lot of ice doesn't mean he deserves it.

Robertson is still very, very raw. Tries very hard and forecheck like a demon but is so slow and so small he can’t even get free to get looks with the puck.

Anyone but "Hands", M&M need another scoring option on that line. Personally I'd convert Tavares into a power winger as it's the only way he's going to be able to earn that cap hit but that's for another day.

I'd rather give him more term of it would drop the aav. Frontload the money and then find a way to dump him later if his play falls off.

I'd just be worried that he has a massive fall off like an Andrew Ladd or a Kyle Okposo in his early 30s.

At some point, MLSE is going to get tired of paying guys 10 million for 4 million worth of cap space, especially when it doesn't seen to help.

Maybe, but that's their accountants problem. Fundamentally the salary cap works in Management's favor for deals like this since the spending cap always means that MLSE's profits margins are well protected by keeping the team from spending to where they could if there were no restrictions

Love Hyman but think we need to be careful here.

Playing with two superstars is going to prop up your numbers.

Montreal didn’t game plan for Hyman.

Hyman had boatloads of chances that he couldn’t bury in the Montreal series.

If he’s skating with a big contract and produces less or at par with now it will get ugly quick.

Hymans a solid player and should get paid. Just not by Toronto.

Toronto is an attractive destination for players willing to take a one year minimal deal with the hopes of a bigger pay day tomorrow.

Toronto has also proven they’re willing to invest in players to become even better versions of themselves. That’s attractive to players.

I doubt it. Have Leaf fans ever gotten tired of paying top dollar?

they make good coin don’t worry. Any good CEO knows that sometimes a ten million investment in the front door can bring 45 + million in the back door.

What if we lose Hyman (a fan favourite) for nothing?

Would Dubas be stupid enough to overpay Hyman to stay?

Would Hyman be stupid enough to leave millions on the table just to stay?
